Vydra again
World class goal. Vydra. Deserved it been brilliant.
Re: Vydra again
You have to admire Vydras patience and dedication in waiting for his chance and wonder what the hell has been going on after seeing his two goals.

So glad he didn't go to Leeds, as he'd be firing them in like nobody's business in the Championship.

Absolutely brilliant. Brought another dimension to our play and they couldn’t handle him.
Even better that he has the patience and composure with the added pressure and lack of game time.
Only thing you have to ask is why he hasn’t featured until now.

and he's not even match fit or match sharp yet.......
Re: Vydra again
Goal aside I thought he played really well, his movement is excellent, he worked hard and was always in the right place. Another great team performance, enjoyable football and I think the partnership upfront contributes to that massively.

There's been a few forced moves by SD. 3 that spring to mind immediately are Ben Mee from left back to centre back - McNeil coming in - and Vydra starting due to Wood's injury.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 4:56 pmOnly thing you have to ask is why he hasn’t featured until now.

They would be my front 2 even if everyone was fit
Re: Vydra again
Only negatives on Vydra today: 1) he should have scored at least two, probably more and 2) he was obviously tired after 65 or so. The positives, both negatives will be solved by more game time and despite this, what a bloody great performance from him.
Big credit to McNeil. That second half performance was top quality and I take full credit for dropping him from my Dream Team.

Re: Vydra again
Form changes so some weeks and against some opposition Barnes and Wood will no doubt be the best partnership. They didn't do too badly earlier on this season and Wood has 10 goals.
It's good news though that every one of our 4 forwards offer something that could very well justify them starting.
Certainly not a bad problem to have.

Vydra gets in positions to score our other strikers can only dream of thats the major difference. Once properly match fit he will be burying those chances as you sayDCWat wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 5:14 pmOnly negatives on Vydra today: 1) he should have scored at least two, probably more and 2) he was obviously tired after 65 or so. Re: Vydra again
Woods as Barnes’ injury have absolutely been a blessing. Not because we don’t need them. But because it’s given Jay a run and brought Vydra in and allowed them to show how they can bring something to the squad when needed.
Providing wood and Barnes come back soon and fit that’s twelve months before we need to spend there. Even a few weeks ago looked like we needed one if not two signings there.

Re: Vydra again
I bet he is gutted he missed the first chance, but I give a large amount of credit to the goalkeeper for saving it.
The last chance that went just the outside of the post, slightly softer hit or him a little sharper and that could have been a hat trick.
Thought he played really well.
Really made up for him.

All strikers will miss chances, the important thing is Vydra kept at it and duly got his reward.
Both strikers on the score sheet, tough call for SD on who to drop if Wood is fit next week, personally i'd continue with these 2 up front, gives them time to build an understanding.

Not really. Barnes and Wood were on nearly a goal a game between them during most of 2019...cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 4:56 pmOnly thing you have to ask is why he hasn’t featured until now.
Vydra had a great game but you have to bear in mind that it was against a Eddie Howe defence....
Typical UTC reaction of why someone hasn’t featured when others have been doing more than ok. We could quite easily have lost today but the likes of Wood and Barnes have dominated the Wolves defence in early season, as an example.
The good news is we now have a great squad and Vydra is taking his chance. This is great news. His cameo at Chelsea just last month left a lot to be desired albeit it was at 3 - 0 so a tad unfair.
We don’t need the usual digs at the manager given he is more important than any of the 4 strikers...by far
Re: Vydra again
What I like about Vydra is his composure in front of goal. 3 times he was in a half decent shooting position. Positions where Barnes or wood would just shoot. Vydra cut back to make a half decent position into an excellent one. The first time it worked but lacked the finish. The second time the cut back was too heavy. The third time he scored. To have that composure after so long not playing is promising. His work rate is also excellent. He offers is pace going forward and a different outlet. We have good options now.
Wood and Barnes for the longer balls. Jay Rod for balls to feet. And Vydra for balls in behind to utilise his pace

Well SD has always stated , you grab the shirt it’s yours to keep. Two games, two goals and 6 points. I suggest the next game has to be the same starting 11.

Of course that can’t be the case due to the stupid ones telling us about Dyche after every defeat

Re: Vydra again
Just what we've been missing for such a long time, a clever player in and around the box. Such a difference running onto it rather than receiving it with your back to goal. We have to let Jay and Vydra start the next game, they really compliment each other.

Absolutely but Barnes and Wood have done more than well against much better defences than today. It will be interesting to see what happens now in terms of keeping the shirt and this is great news and no need to be asking why not before imo as I have seen a couple of very poor cameos from Vydra...cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 6:20 pmI don’t dispute Barnes and wood been vital. Do agree he maybe should of had more than one today but the pleasing point is he’s creating good opportunities, had a great game today alongside Jay Rod. If we had defour type player picking the front two out with top quality passes we’d be even more dangerous going forward. A great day though to be a claret.

Re: Vydra again
I've been wanting Vydra to play for us since before we even signed him. (Ask Bosscat and Houseboy about my posts in the Blackburn Telegraph.)
Yesterday I was being accused of 'Man Love' for him when I said he's score two today. (He damn near did.) I think after today there will be a lot more 'Man Love' for him. A brilliant performance and another stunning goal.
Will Wood get his place back at Newcastle? I somehow doubt it.
As if the wind wasn't enough to ruin the game today, we also had the farce of VAR. The decisions might have been technically correct (Or not) and suited Burnley but it's just ridiculous that a team can run the length of the field and score, have their fans celebrating, only for the goal to be ruled out for a very controversial decision. Scrap VAR before next season and bring sanity back to the game.

That Defour type player could be Brownhill. I'm already looking forward to next season after he has a pre season under Sean's tuteledge.buzzclarets79 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 7:03 pmDo agree he maybe should of had more than one today but the pleasing point is he’s creating good opportunities, had a great game today alongside Jay Rod. Re: Vydra again
For me Barnes and Wood are old fashioned centre forwards, where as Jay and Vyds are more modern and more finesse about their play and much more pace. Both types are good and it is great to have both options. But i feel the Jay and Vyds brings out the more passing game from the team where as Barnes and Wood bring out the long ball.

Re: Vydra again
And long ball is exactly what you need against a good few sides in the division...or mixed football. Could you see the pressing we did at home to Norwich with today’s team...possibly, possibly it wouldn’t have been as good as what we did on that day. Could we beat Man U and Leicester without Wood, again possibly, possibly not.
Vydra was excellent today against a very poor defence so we shall see. He did well at Southampton in the second half against another poorish defence.
The good news is we will now see what he can do consistently at this level like Barnes and Wood have proven they can...

I can't decide if he's brilliant or cr*p. He SHOULD have had about 6 goals today tbf, but was he unlucky or was it poor finishing?? I genuinely don't know!!! Wood for example plays rubbish for 90 minutes, gets one chance and scores! I do like Vydra though and he kept plugging away today and got his reward. It's definitely a different game watching Jayrod/Vydra to watching Wood/Barnes. Not NECESSARILY better or worse, but very different for sure and I enjoyed it!

We are in a bloody good place to have 4 strikers, who each offer something slightly different, and seemingly happy.
There isn't another team (including the "top 6") who have that.
