The pen was definitely upper arm and not shoulder irrespective of the number of angles shown and times they said shoulder....
The first goal was not quite as clear cut and we may have had the rub of the green on that one....

Re: Match of the Day
The first one is the only debatable decision, it appears to hit the red Mansion logo on his upper arm but it is high up on his arm.
The second one is on his bicep, if after apparently watching it load of times they can't see that on MOTD they want to give their specs a wipe.

Upper arm isn’t the shoulder, both correct decisions

Their 1st goal should have stood , imho.
I think the penalty is a correct overrule.
Who'd have thought we'd actually benefit from VAR? Sort of makes up for Evans/ Leicester-gate?!

I've just checked Villa's net spend since they won promotion,it comes to about 140m plus wages, what the heck did they splash all that cash on.they're dire Grealish accepted, but as the pundits have just pointed out he can't do it on his own.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 11:10 pmSouthampton had 28 shots vs Villa.
Twenty bloody eight!
Villa are in real danger of replicating Fulham's efforts of last season, and worryingly for them they seem to have lost their fighting spirit.

Good man management from Sean talking up Jay and Matej, and they're clearly responding in the right manner.
Villa are staring down the barrel, how on earth did they reach the Carabao Cup final

We have a decent record at home to Spurs in the PL. I can see it being tight.ElectroClaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 10:46 pmI really think we'll have a serious go at Spurs. They seem to have their heads down

Still be difficult, obv, but they're beatable.

I hope Villa survive. Unlikely as it looks. Always liked the club. And assuming Norwich are gone I want the ‘Ammers to go and possibly Watford. I don’t have any problem with the South coast sides and Palace are kind of okay.

Re: Match of the Day
Think we were a bit fortunate with the 1st VAR decision, none of our players seemed to protest the goal at the time which is usually a giveaway.
However the 2nd one all the players (and crowd) spontaneously shouted for handball and seeing the replays a penalty was the correct decision albeit a close one.

I'd like Watford to take points of United today though. Help our European quest.
It would also be nice if Norwich got something at Wolves and Arsenal and Everton draw.

Re: Match of the Day
Arsenal have let us down yet again bud. Even if Europe turns out to be beyond reach I would (to quote Keegan) 'love it, really love it' if we could finish above that awful football club and their arrogant fans. Watford collapsed at United so they are looking in dire straights just now. Just need the 'Pool to 'ammer the 'Ammers about 6-0 tonight. Really want that bunch of East End over-rated sods to be in the Championship next season, struggling under the cost of running that team and that ridiculously unnecsessarilly large stadium.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 10:21 amI'd like Watford to take points of United today though. Except the earlier one is pretty much exactly the situation that the rules say is not a penalty.
He's wrong, it was a penalty everyday of the week - which is why VAR awarded it.

Re: Match of the Day
Just about everyone in the ground (and pretty much all the players) shouted hand ball before their 'goal'. I really don't see what the controversy is all about. It had to be a penalty. Their disallowed goal at 0-0 was perhaps a bit unfortunate, we would have been p!ssed off if it had happened to us. Watching MotD though there does seem to be some vagueness about what 'shoulder' actually means.

i hadn't realised, until I watched MOTD, that their goalkeeping coach had been sent off.
Not that it matters one jot to us, just thought I would chuck it in there.

Re: Match of the Day
Only just got round to watching the Southampton/Villa game last night in a moment of boredom. As everone has said Villa look absolutely terrible, especially at the back. They made Southampton look like a poor man's Barcelona. To be honest Southampton were shite as well, 28 shots and only two goals? They were shocking in front of goal.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 22, 2020 11:22 pmI've just checked Villa's net spend since they won promotion,it comes to about 140m plus wages, what the heck did they splash all that cash on.they're dire Grealish accepted, but as the pundits have just pointed out he can't do it on his own.

How the hell did Villa beat us - says a lot about where we were at at the time doesn't it.
Re: Match of the Day
Just a really bad day at the office Houseboy
Happens to all teams.
Look at Norwich - now a number of points adrift and not won a game in ages. Hard to believe they beat Man City drew with Spurs....though the latter is becoming a bit more believable every week under the special one !

Re: Match of the Day
Watched the Sunday Supplement on Sky and much of the discussion surrounding VAR of course centred on the Chelsea V Spurs game, but Darren Lewis of the Daily Mirror said that the decisions against Bournemouth at Turf Moor by VAR were far more questionable and controversial. He then went on to say that far less was being made over the decisions in that game because "Hey, it's only little old Bournemouth." As opposed to the MIGHTY Burnley.

Re: Match of the Day
Lewis is right though isn't he. So much discussion on various radio stations about the Lo Celso red card that wasn't compared to the events in our game yet Chelsea won the game anyway. A different take on the decisions at Turf Moor, conversely, would have likely produced a completely different result. You can absolutely guarantee that if the events in our game had occurred in the Chelsea v Spurs match and, say, the ref had failed to send off Ashley Westwood for stamping on Josh King then the media would be going absoltely ballistic over the former and relegating the latter to a footnote.
