Lets just say Westwood's corners made sure we had some shots on target.

I wonder if Pope's went down as a shot on target

Westwood (and McNeil to some extend) does not get the credit her deserves for the consistently excellent corners that he delivers. Every single one produces panic!

Re: Free Kicks and Corners without Wood
Clearly not as much of a threat. Having Wood out of the side does disrupt our set piece game plan.
Replaced that yesterday by playing more balls in behind to Vyds, but in all honesty might be tempted to play Wood instead of JRod away at Newcastle if he’s fit. We look a better side with JRod in the team, but feel away we might be better playing Wood for that additional threat.
Fact he wasn’t on the bench suggests he’s out for a few weeks though. So good to have 4 great striking options. Sign of how far we’ve come.

I’ll give you another. Should’ve been a 5-0 win.
Hopefully saving a few for St James’ Park!!

Re: Free Kicks and Corners without Wood
I think every other team copying our style of corner is credit enough.
Every game I watch now they look to put the keeper under pressure or like Derby did take shots and copy Westwood scoring.
The corner to the penalty spot is pretty much finished with Zonal marking, our style makes it redundant
Re: Free Kicks and Corners without Wood
Last 5 matches, 4 wins and a draw... 13 points from 15, we beat Burnmuff 3-0, we have16 shots, 10 shots of which are on target and people are still bloody whinging ffs
Innit brilliant being a Claret
Great interview with Matej Vydra on Clarets player... saying as the team was announced ... his name was last and how the huge cheer he got made him feel brilliant ... also when Birdy talked about his goal, he said yes it was fantastic but not to forget how many he missed and how he needs to improve those stats... Vyds comes across well in his interviews ... Woody and Ash will have to spend time on the bench now methinks, Vydra has the starting shirt (alongside Jay Rod) and its his to lose.

Re: Free Kicks and Corners without Wood
I think Billing had a big impact on our corners. He is massive and he stood in that back post area that Mee and Tarks attack and nullified some of the usual threat.
Its unbelievable how good we are at corners though and Id rather have a corner than a free kick at the edge of the box

Re: Free Kicks and Corners without Wood
When Brownhill gets in the side we have another option. Just roll one to the edge of the box for him to smash as he has a great shot on him. That really will cause havoc for defences as we have 3 options then. Near post whip in, far post for Mee and Tarky to nod back or the shot on goal from the edge of the box...

Re: Free Kicks and Corners without Wood
with the current quality of delivery at corners might be time to reboot the Brian Flynn whip in to the front post and flick on to the back for one of the big boys to nod into the net

Re: Free Kicks and Corners without Wood
After all the stick McCarthy got last week for being behind the line when Westys corner sneaked in it was interesting to see Ramsdale in the identical position when one was headed off the line. It’s all down to Jack Cork. He stands there like a roadblock, they are never going to go away from their goalline to go the long way around him so the only option is to go into the nets. The ball is delivered with pace and they haven’t got time to get around him and back in play. Brilliant.

Apparrently he's a long throw specialist as well, (So I'm told.) so that's another weapon in the armoury.Andreshotboots wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 12:05 pmWhen Brownhill gets in the side we have another option.
