Europa League - New target
Surely we should be looking up now after this good spell of form, time to have a real go at getting there again seeing as there are more places up for grabs

A combination of becoming a parent and being made redundant meant travelling to the Europe was impossible. After dreaming of watching us in Europe for 30 years, I thought 2018 would never be repeated.
Please let us get there again.

I'm personally not talking of Europe, but would I want us playing in it again? I don't really need to answer that because I'm not one of them weirdos.

Re: Europa League - New target
He’s probably right. Football club directors are only really concerned with the finances. To ours, staying in the Premier League is the be-all and end-all.
It’s why Arsenal stayed with Wenger for years after he stopped winning stuff. To the directors, as long as he kept guaranteeing Champions League bunce whilst spending relatively little money, they weren’t overly concerned with the lack of trophies. It’s only when that stopped they finally canned him.
For us, there’s no money in the Europa League - it just gets in the way, along with the domestic cups.
I find it very sad, but that’s the reality.

Re: Europa League - New target
Last season's ?problems? with playing in Europe could be alleviated by going straight into the group stages. Lots of money to be made then - particularly in the Champions League. If we had beaten Olympiakos, as we easily could have done in that 2nd leg then we would have had a break from the Sunday/Thursday routine for a few weeks.
I, personally, still believe that it was the heads dropping after we lost out that caused our slump in form rather than the additional games or travel.

The game is about glory, creating mythology and legends that attract fans and hook them in.
Being in Europe will always be a risk for us, but it's always worth it because it achieves the above. When we were Kings and all that.

Re: Europa League - New target
It’s very simple, if anybody doesn’t want us qualifying for Europe I don’t want them anywhere near our club.
That includes directors, manager, coaches, players and fans. It’s a “deal breaker”.
If all of the above do want it, great, lets crack on.
Life’s too short not to.

Re: Europa League - New target
Burnley have won 37 points from 27 games this season - their highest points tally at this stage of a Premier League campaign.
This stat surprised me,you'd have imagined we'd have garnered more points in the 2017-18 season, but we flagged badly after Xmas, and it was only that 5 game winning run in the Spring that ensured we stayed 7th,EL is still a tough ask,but all the teams above us are inconsistent,so if we can carry on accruing points who knows come the last 3/4 games, our run-in looks decent on paper.

We didn’t exactly tear it up in the run-in that season either - 2 points from the last 5 games. You’d have to think there’s a chance we’ll top that points tally.

Re: Europa League - New target
I worked out earlier that we can get 21 points if we continue this good run of form the way we are going, that would beat our last points haul of 54 points when we last finished seventh , I think we can do it!

I loved watching us against Reims and Hamburg in the European Cup in 1962 .I loved watching the games against Aberdeen , Basheksehir and Olympiacos last year.
Let's have some more of that. We've got a great team we can do it.

I only ever want Burnley to be the best club it can be and to not want qualification because of this or that would go against everything I love about it all. Bring on Europe again.

As much as I'd love us to get back into Europe, the amount of players we have out of contract could be an issue. Assuming virtually all of them go, our squad could look a bit threadbare if we didn't get replacements in early.

Re: Europa League - New target
We will have learned an awful lot from last time in terms of preparation for games. We had an unfortunate run of tricky fixtures, against some of the toughest teams in the competition. If we qualified straight into the group stages then the problems we had go away, and we will have weeks to prepare for each game rather than a few days.
We’re having a purple patch and will lose a few before the season ends. We just have to win enough. I suspect we’ll need a few more points than last time too. Maybe closer to 60 if Man City won their appeal, which is a big ask.

Re: Europa League - New target
With so many teams in the mix though everyone has to drop points, like Everton playing Arsenal today, and think they have United next week. United, Arsenal and Wolves are all likely to progress in the Europa as well, so will have the problem of playing Thursday-Sunday.Claretforever wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 9:59 amWe will have learned an awful lot from last time in terms of preparation for games. Can see you "Going Underground" after calling people stupid then making a classic schoolboy error of a spelling mistake.
I would hope your post was a joke but .... maybe you live in "A Town Called Malice"
Re: Europa League - New target
Part of me says we don't have the depth of players to give it a go again.
The bigger percentage of me says, if you get the chance why the hell not. SD will have a lot more experience and be better prepared for what will be a tough season if we did qualify.
Surely as a fan/supporter you should relish the chance of our club being in a European Competition.
Bur for now I will just hope for the magical 40 points + to be achieved as soon as possible. UTC

Re: Europa League - New target
Exactly. Apart from the top 2 nothing amazing in this league this year, we've hit form at the right time and the remaining fixtures could have been a lot worse..
Plus if we did miraculously make it that would be another thing crossed of the list those horse fiddling tossers keep hanging on to.
Re: Europa League - New target
Just shows what a difference 5 games can make. Before our last 5 results I'd have been looking for Man U and Wolves wins, now I'm looking for Watford and Norwich wins in todays matches. Long may it continue
