Next redevelopment at the Turf .... ?

Post by Clarets4me » Tue Feb 25, 2020 7:59 pm

Demolish and redevelop the Cricket Field stand, or build the second tier on the Bob Lord ?
Reach an agreement to relocate the Cricket Club to a brand new Ground, plus cash, or try to redevelop swapping some Cricket Club land for a new Club House etc ?

Discuss ....

Never going to happen with the cricket club. They are sat on a gold mine being located where they are now as they are the away designated watering hole. Got told they made about 14k just in bar takings for the Chelsea game alone this season. Would take an astronomical figure as they hold all the aces..

I agree about the cricket club not moving but someone’s been telling porkies regarding 14k for the Chelsea match.

And they’re still only the second biggest club in Burnley.

I’ve been told myself they’ve done £10k on big match days like Man Utd, by friends that are members there, I can’t imagine they would have made it up but who cares.

Not a chance I’d move if I was them! Fantastic location

The cricket club wont be as lucrative if we ever get relegated. The benefit will be on a sliding scale in a downward trajectory depending on how far we fall from grace. Sometimes a bird in the hand, and all that.

With safe standing coming in soon if Burnley are gonna spend some cash redeveloping the ground they'd prob be best doing a Brighton and getting a smart new stadium on the outskirts of the local area.

Ever better, what about a Ground-sharing arrangement with Rovers at the new facility, " D-A " ? 8-)

I can see you argument but personally don't see ground sharing working in this country. Nice new shiny stadium to call our own in a purpose built location would be just the ticket though

Living up to your name.

Next redevelopment will be an overhaul of the squad in the best possible attempt to retain PL status.

Your looking at least £200m before you even start. The club could sell the Turf Moor land, but it won’t be worth much in the respect of funding a new stadium.

Turf Moor is worthless on the open property market ! Unless it's to be used as a sports stadium, the costs of demolition and clearance would cancel out any chance of a profit on any proposed development ....
Look at it this way, would you want to be the developer responsible for demolishing nearly 140 years of history and memories ?

The developers aren't bothered about history or memories. They'd make a token gesture by calling the new development Longside court, or Bee Hole mews or something in an obligatory, shallow nod to the past.

I heard the board were close to signing off on a few new lawn mowers to keep the grass nice and short..

Following the EU rule of needing a licence to ride them, I have heard this now doesn't fit the budget.. looks like grass may be a bit long still for the season to come

Two 40 odd year old stands and a couple of quick fix prefabs to be Honest I'd knock it down and start again.

I think the majority of the BFC Board + Ground management team must have a legal background as like solicitors they never do anything in a rush and all decisions take years.

The club has been pondering where to position the 2nd screen for going on 2 years now. Don’t worry it’s in hand. We will find out in 2030 that the 2nd screen was actually on the wall in the club shop all along.

The money B.F.C spent on those " quick fix prefabs " ( £2.6m on top of Government grants ) was the best money the Club's spent in the last 30 years, with the possible exception of Ashley Barnes and Sam Vokes !! 8-)

There was a thread on this 6 months or so ago.......The BL won't take the weight of a 2nd tier, nobody wants to relocate to a brand new soulless ground- sorry, sports arena/stadium....... & it's unlikely the board will spend on redevelopment until a decision is made on safe standing.

Spurs sell 65,000 pints?

I doubt 1 in 5 of our capacity drink beer at the ground let alone the same proportion of 60,000+. That's an awful lot of beer being consumed by possibly so few people.

They sell a semi decent beer too. None of this fosters/carling/carlsberg fizzy pop s***

The brewery is beavertown Which does more than just lager. More may drink at the ground if they have something worthwhile drinking there. I bet more beer is sold in the fan zone than in the ground.

Having also watched the Richard Hammond programme, I was particularly impressed with the point they made about grass length..

We do need to redevelop. We have to improve what we’ve got while we have money, as there’ll come a time when we need to improve and we have none.

Comments about the last time we did those stands we dropped down the league, although factual, don’t paint the full picture.

Back then we spend the equivalent of around 3 years turnover on the redevelopment. That would be like us spending £400 million on two stands now. The reality being that it would cost nearer a tenth of that, and over a few years of design and development would be a fraction of our turnover.

The Bob Lord doesn’t need another tier. What it need is extending backwards to the boundary of the club land like the old Brunshaw Road stand, and a new goalpost/cantilever roof adding. It doesn’t even need more seats, and that extra space could be for executive boxes at the back, maybe even on two levels, as we are short of them apparently.

The Cricket Field needs rebuilding though I suspect, unless they can re-roof it, build a corner stand for the changing facilities which would make the concourse much bigger, and make it rail seating in there. You could even add a walkway on a mezzanine type structure at the back for extra egress, like Bramall Lane’s Kop, if we could acquire/rent a 10-15m plot of land from BCC which is currently used as practice and storage.

Totally capacity: same/slight increase due to Exec areas.

This covers it quite well. I would just add that lots of families go out to the Cinema or such like and have a meal as part of the day/night out. It would be good if the Club looked at providing this sort of experience before or after a game. As someone has suggested, selling quality well kept beers would be an encouraging start.

If we qualify for Europe this season - we will have to rip out all the wooden seats in both the Cricketfield and Bob Lord, we should just put rail seats in the Cricketfield then - you can put them in just not lock the seats up - we should have done that last time as it is much safer to have that rail in front of fans, given that the majority stand

Would be good if something could be done to speed up the process of getting a drink at half time.

Revolutionary idea admittedly

Depends on the future shape of things. More American? Drive-in, drive-through, whatever not as we know it.
