Re: dyche !!! let's hear it from the early season critics .
To be fair to Dyche it is very hard to choose which of our 4 excellent strikers to play when fit. Same with wingers and right back.
Games come down to small margins. Wood is better at finishing close range than, say, Jay, who has missed golden chances against Arsenal, Bournemouth and others. But Jay is better at making us flow as a team.
I think that all we ask is that all the players get a fair chance (I’m not sure that Vydra has had that) and that if it doesn’t work in a game it gets changed, given that we have all these good players. Even the most staunch defender must agree that Dyche can struggle with those two things (he will claim he is right to do so and that his record backs him up).

One thing I'm struggling with is how on earth we have managed to get these excellent players like Vydra and Jay Rod when our recruitment over the past couple of years has been described as "abysmal", "shambolic" and, my personal favourite, the "laughing stock of other clubs"?

Ha ha, I seem to have invented an imaginary group of religious zealots on here. I'm sorry if any offence has been taken by anyone (and I know you are virtually impossible to offend TVC - a bit like me ). It was just a bit of a light hearted reference to people who seem, on face value, to attack others for their views, but I don't mean anything personal by it, it's just my (very weird) take on life.TVC15 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2020 4:51 pmThink that’s the point though Houseboy - who is this “Dyche is God” squad ?
I don’t know anyone on this board who has agreed with everything that SD has said or done
All about perspective - which I think you have from your posts.
It’s fine for people to think he is the best manager we have had in many years - infact you’d be hard pushed to argue anything different based on the facts.
But if that is your view - like it is mine - then it’s easier to accept or rationalise things he has said or done that you don’t agree with than it is if you are someone who gets really down with SD when we lose and then when we win thinks he has been lucky or he’s just done the things you wanted to and should have done earlier (which IMHO is crazy talk often with the benefit of hindsight and always without the full facts that SD and his team have)

Hey don't take me too seriously bud, I have a weird sense of humour that not everyone gets (not even my wife and we've been married 30 years). Too much acid when I was younger and too much reading of Neitzsche and Pirsig. Even when I'm being serious I get a bit 'sarcy'.Billy Balfour wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2020 6:01 pmFair enough. An easy mistake to make when it came from a post where you quoted one of mine.
Anyway, enough of this malarkey. I'll get back to my Shrine of the Dyche and you can get back to your pins and voodoo effigy. That's a joke, btw.
We're all Clarets and that's what counts on here.

After having to sit through so much negativity in this forum throughout January its nice to see a thread giving Dyche some credit.

Hey mate I'm weird but I'm not THAT weird.
By the way bud, do you actually remember that washing powder bloke who you could win five pounds off if you recognised him and claimed the fiver (in the days when people worked for about five pounds a week)? I was a kid when that chap was going round knocking on doors. The really funny thing is that he was advertised on the telly and he always dressed in a dazzling white suite and knocked on people's doors, AND STILL SOME NUMPTIES DIDN'T GET THE FIVER.

Haha. I don't recall it, but it might have been before my time. Funny that some numpties didn't get it, given that he couldn't have been more distinctively dressed if he tried.houseboy wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 9:46 amHey mate I'm weird but I'm not THAT weird.

Hey House,
Was that the Daz doorstep challenge. If so I think it was Danny Baker.

No. I know what you’re on about and I think it was based on the same thing but I’m not sure Baker would have been born when this guy was at it. To be honest I think it was Daz at the time though.Volvoclaret wrote: ↑Thu Feb 27, 2020 9:18 pmHey House,

Good post.jedi_master wrote: ↑Mon Feb 24, 2020 12:27 pmDyche is an outstanding manager, and whilst we were putting in some turgid displays it was crazy to see threads calling for him to go (and they did happen, and have done every other time we have had a poor run). Always makes me laugh, because you would have to be rather unobservant to see that a trademark of Dyche's reign here has been his streakiness (unbelievably good runs followed by a 4-5 game losing run, and so on). It was always going to change, usually through a little tinker or rethink as happened last season.
Anyway, not sure why either 'side' needs to feel smug about the results changing. Lets all just enjoy it, we're all Burnley fans aren't we? The style HAS changed, which I will approve of. I never had an issue with the 'effective' football per se that Dyche has put out for us but it had in recent weeks felt worse, I think largely due to Barnes clearly being unfit. Rodriguez has forced us to move it on the deck more as he is a proper footballer and demands the ball in that manner - fair play for the team accommodating that.
Vydra? What can you say. I thought he was done here and was assuming we would move to a 451 at Southampton when Wood went off, but fair play to Dyche for throwing him in (as he HAD shown nothing in his brief glimpses in league or cup to make anyone realistically think he had what it takes) and moreso fair play to Vydra for scoring an outstanding goal. He was oustanding I felt with his movement on Saturday, him and Rodriguez were a joy to watch. I am a massive Chris Wood fan but he cannot go straight back in - and Barnes? I think Barnes is going to really struggle, currently, to become a fixture again in the first elevent.
Against Bournemouth, in the second half, we played some of the very best football we have under Dyche so long may that continue. Fans as a whole need to be a bit more patient and willing to take the rough with the smooth though, it was always be thus as a Burnley fan in this league. We will have another crap run this season, such knee jerk reactions should be tempered and let history remind you that this will always happen in this league - and history tells us Dyche will remedy it sooner rather than later.

Today is a perfect example of why Dyche will not get one of the top jobs in football.
We're safe in the Premier League, Newcastle are sh.te and are there for the taking and we go for a spoiling 0 - 0 draw.
3 of the 4 midfielders could all have been substituted for Brownhill - no chance!!!
Had to put Wood on - why? Did he improve anything? Vydra doing OK and got a bit of confidence at last but takes him off!!!
Excellent defensive display but we could & should have done so much better.

Re: dyche !!! let's hear it from the early season critics .
I'm not at all sure you can blame SD for today's performance, his interview clearly shows his frustration. More to do with the players taking their foot off the gas, than management instruction.

Thanks to you I've seen the light. I've stopped reading / posting on football related threads on here.Devils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sun Feb 23, 2020 11:09 pmYep and as I said posters who see no good in the club no matter what are equally as boring and pointless as those who dare not question the club and get upset when others do so.
Still haven't seen anyone on this thread staking a claim to being much wiser than Dyche though

One sure thing, I can't recall any time when SD has taken the blame for any poor shows.
But we are doing fine and just because we have won a few games lately doesn't make teams like Newcastle into pushovers.

It's a personal opinion and I accept your right to disagree. Wood did nothing when he came on and was a risk coming back from injury .
But my main point was about the midfield particularly Hendrick but all of em apart from Westwood who were awful.
Surely Brownhill deserves a chance in those circumstances?

I think 3 points against spurs next week takes us above em..I could be wrong though.
Re: dyche !!! let's hear it from the early season critics .
We go above Spurs if we beat them only if they lose at home to Wolves tomorrow - which hopefully they will.

The real point is :
6 games unbeaten,
4 clean sheets
only behind Liverpool in the form table
Pope now has more clean sheets than Allison
We are safe (virtually)
Newcastle have a good record
Etc etc

I just don’t think either side played that well but we should still have won with the best chance of the game.RidgeClaret wrote: ↑Sat Feb 29, 2020 9:40 pmI don't disagree with any of that, I 'm talking about today.

Newcastle are a tough team to breakdown and poor up front - there have been less goals at Newcastle this year than any other ground and have they not lost only 2 or 3 games there this season ?
All that means is that a 0-0 draw was the most likely result given our own great defensive record.
So no I don’t think they were there for the taking because better and bigger sides than Burnley probably thought that as well and they didn’t win there either.

Negative move bringing on your number one striker for your number four striker who was tiring after 60 minutes. Wood wouldn’t have been on the bench if there was a risk of a recurrence of his injury.
Good solid away point on a day we weren’t completely on it bodes well I reckon.
