Danny Mills
Just been asked on Sky Sports about the England goalkeeper. Apparently Pickford must play as he has no real competition. Henderson has only had one season and Pope has done ok but he's only at Burnley!!!
Re: Danny Mills
Has Danny Mills ever said anything worthwhile ? Contributes nothing to any debate.

When is the squad announced?

Very blinkered and doesn't appear to like any/many teams outside of his favourites.

Re: Danny Mills
It just seems incredible that his reason for not selecting Pope is that he 'only' plays for Burnley!

Re: Danny Mills
Pickford has no real competition? We might as well not both going then. Roy Keane had it right about Pickford, not a good goalkeeper and not up to it. As for Mill's reasoning for not playing Pope - words fail me.Paulclaret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 11:24 amJust been asked on Sky Sports about the England goalkeeper. Re: Danny Mills
Does he not realise that playing for Burnley with our average possession stats and eleven clean shheets makes him outstanding! And our defence contributes to that, so Tarks only playing for Burnley means he wouldn’t figure in a Danny Mills side either

The only way I judgement I ever make is which Burnley keeper his as good as (in my time) and would I swap.
Looking at Pickford.
Pickford did well in the early rounds.
We could send Joe Neenan down to training camp

Re: Danny Mills
Another for the pr**k list
Re: Danny Mills
This is the same Danny Mills who spent more than half of his career playing for the likes of Norwich, Derby, Charlton and other non fashionable smaller clubs.
He’s unfortunately in the same category as the likes of Chris Sutton and Savage - desperate to carve themselves a career in the media, carry a chip on their shoulder and decide the best way to get noticed is come out with attention seeking controversial comments designed to rile fans.
It’s no coincidence that these guys lack intelligence and played for clubs like Leeds and Bas-tard Rovers.

And if we are such a 'lowly' side doesn't it say a lot about Pope that we have the second best 'clean sheet' record in the PL, second only to Liverpool. The man obviously doesn't think about what he is saying before he says it.Paulclaret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 11:29 amIt just seems incredible that his reason for not selecting Pope is that he 'only' plays for Burnley!

Re: Danny Mills
I wasn’t going to comment on Mills, really did not get why people rated him as a player. He was bang average... and Tony we back me up I love defensive players....
As a pundit his opinion are as valuable as anyone waiting in queue for a half time pie.
His opinion literally matters not one iota to me. If Southgate listens to mills, that explains why I only bother watching England when a Claret makes the cut.

Up there with Paul Azinger for disrespect. Ridiculous statement.
As for the keepers, folk are falling for Henderson cos he's diving all over the place Nick very rarely dives as his positioning is so much better than all his challengers for the job.

Re: Danny Mills
Mills is an absolute buffoon. Comes across as intensely arrogant and dislikable. We should not forget that that FA commission he satin came forward with the crackpot idea of having Premier League's "B" teams play in the lower divisions. He is a fool.

Interesting take in the following article as to why he may have done it (other than him being a pr-ick)Tricky Trevor wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 12:48 pmUp there with Paul Azinger for disrespect. I was a fan of Pickford but he’s been absolutely gash for the last 6 months. Pope or Henderson should get the nod, however seems a little risky to throw an International rookie in goal for a major tournament we should have a chance of winning.

Two years ago - Pope v Pickford:
Burnley 7th (conceded 39)
Everton 8th (conceded 58)
This year - Pope v Pickford:
Burnley 9th (conceded 39)
Everton 11th (conceded 42)
But then again Pickford is only at Everton

Re: Danny Mills
All this clean sheet thing with goalies though is a bit misleading isn't it? A lot depends on what is in front of them. Would Pope have 11 clean sheets but for Tarks and Mee? Probably not. And what about Ramsdale at Bournemouth? He's a top goalkeeper but their defence is shite. It's the defensive UNIT that gets clean sheets. I have long thought that an international side, where possible (obviously a lot of the time it's not), should think about using the entire defensive unit of the best defence at the time. Unfortunately with so many teams made up of various foreign players it is not likely to happen. Southgate should go the whole hog and use Pope/Tarks/Mee as a unit, because even though England are looking great just now defensively they are still pretty shite.

So Sheff U is ok and Everton, who are below us, largely thanks to Pu kup (from the net), count as ok?Paulclaret wrote: ↑Tue Mar 03, 2020 11:29 amIt just seems incredible that his reason for not selecting Pope is that he 'only' plays for Burnley!

I’m pretty certain it was someone from Burnley that knobbed his wife & gave her the first orgasm of her life. He said in a report that we should not be in the Prem because we don’t spend what’s needed, enough said he is a total bellend.

It’s not just the keeping it’s the defence in front of them.
Now how much did Sidibe, Mina, Keane & Digne cost compared to Bardsley/Lowton,Tarks,Mee,Taylor?

Re: Danny Mills
The hilarious thing with pundits is they'll change their opinon to suit what they are talking about at the time.
They'll state Pope is protected by a solid defence (3 out of 4 of which are English) yet then the defenders also won't be considered good enough for England as they have Nick Pope behind them
Fact is that only Liverpool (who many pundits this season have said have the best RB, LB and CB in the world) have kept more clean sheet than ourselves and yet it is highly unlikely that any of our back 5 will play in the Euros and more than likely that 3 of the 4 English lads won't even be in the squad.
Also Liverpool's RB is the only one of their defence that is English and the only position of our defence where the occupant is not.
