Lancashire police with not enough to do...

Post by Mala591 » Fri Mar 06, 2020 9:51 pm

Obviously there aren't enough murders/stabbings in the county of Lancashire so they must concentrate on drivers 'dangerously speeding' at 36mph in a 30mph zone. Imo there are far too many highly qualified/highly paid Lancashire police persons with not enough to do.

You would think that if they saw someone being murdered or stabbed they would do something about it.

Just like if they saw someone driving at 36mph in a 30 zone.

Like in all occupations, the easier and more straight forward the job, the better.
Catching big time players for big time crimes takes time, bodies and resources ( mainly cash )
Standing with a speed gun gets far more "results" and brings the cash in.

The force is stretched to the limit though we are regularly told, so there must be plenty going on regularly to keep them so stretched for this length of time.

As I recall there have been quite a few threads on here recently about dangerous / reckless driving, car crashes, serious injuries and fatalities, and many people asking for the police and highways authorities to be more pro-active.
Incidentally 36 in a 30 zone can be very dangerous / totally reckless depending on the road conditions, layout, area, topography and circumstances.

Yes mala did mention "Dangerously" speeding at 36 so probably a fair cop.

I think we all know that, at times, you can drive perfectly safely at 36 in a 30 mph restricted area, whilst at times, you'd be a menace to yourself and everyone else, if you were doing 36 in areas of some roads that are technically under the National Speed Limit of 60 mph ...

I have six points, 3 points for doing 37 mph on the dual carriageway section of Padiham Road, fair enough ...., but the other was for doing 59 mph on a virtually deserted M60 at 1.32 am, with a 50 limit temporarily in place, due to " Road Works ". They had those big signs with a young girl wearing a yellow hard hat, " Please drive carefully, my Daddy works on this road ! ", well, he'd either gone down the pub, or was " bothering ", because he certainly wasn't working ..

Roll on July 4th and 5th December when both offences are spent !

I can’t remember the exact figures, but the chances of surviving being hit by a car at 40mph are minimal, compared to 30mph where you have a fighting chance.

Driving at 36 in a 30 is probably the tipping point where the chances of surviving being hit start to drop away dramatically.

I know it’s a ball ache driving at 30, but it’s 30 for a reason.

Last Christmas, I went to three RTC’s in the space of a week where children had been hit. Two survived, one didn’t. And seeing that little girl laid out in the road will stay with me for the rest of my life.

Please, keep an eye on your speed. We’re all guilty of it, but we’ve just got to be careful when and where we stray.

Exactly ******* this.

**** 12 points. They should be banned straight away. Lose their jobs, lose their homes. Too many lose everything because of speeding scumbags.

i think that is a perfectly acceptable use of their time and resources.

Why go after the difficult to catch and expensive cases when you can increase your revenue and go after easy targets on their morning commutes? After all, they're going a little bit too fast anyway so its absolutely fair they should be fined, and potentially given penalty points that could result in them losing their jobs.

Has anyone else noticed that the mobile speed cameras aren't located where most accidents have historically happened but those little stretches of road where you're most likely to subconsciously speed up resulting in maximum financial return for the 'under employed' police persons.

Why can't we have a tick box for our £100 fine to be paid to:

Police
NHS
Unfortunate homeless people
Plant 100 trees
Filling in potholes
Pathway maintenance in the beautiful countryside surrounding Burnley

I was hit by a car as a kid that was doing over 30 in what is now a 20 (probably then a 30). I was lucky. I escaped with serious injuries but not life threatening.

Had the driver been doing 40+ or probably even 36 no way would I have survived, especially at 8 years old.

I do have sympathy when people get caught in situations like the above where 50 on a motorway. But even the incident i mention - it was on a quiet road, at night when the driver who hit me probably expected nobody to be about.

Sometimes you just have to accept its a fair cop and try and learn from it.

The camera vans aren't actually operated by cops but maybe you should just stop speeding all the time?

I was indeed, it's not a gift given to everyone, but whatever ...

Moving on, whilst every road related fatality is a tragedy, we should be thankful that we live in the United Kingdom. For every 100,000 cars on the road, there are 5.7 traffic related deaths every year in this Country. At first sight, this looks shocking but apart from San Marino, and the Nordic Countries of Norway, Sweden and Finland, we're the safest country in the world ... here's some figures based on RTA Deaths/100k cars ..

United Kingdom 5.7
Portugal 11.7
Greece 12.8
U.S.A. 14.2
Romania 31.4
Mexico 43.0
Turkey 46.4
U.A.E. 62.7
India 130.1
South Africa 133.7
Egypt 148.7
Pakistan 283.9
Nigeria 651.4
Bangladesh 1020.6
Somalia 6532.5

Ouch !!

How on earth are they likely to catch a murderer when they are parked up at the side of a road where they KNOW people are likely to creep above the speed limit thus generating funds for the secret policemen’s ball? (See YouTube)

If I saw someone being murdered or stabbed I’d likely try to do something about it, as I’m sure you would.

How do you catch someone in the act of murder? You get lucky.
How do you catch someone stabbing someone? You get lucky.
How do you catch someone speeding? You set a trap in the most likely place and sit there and wait.
How do you lose total faith in the police service?....

How many people get murdered in England?

How many people die at the hands of speeding drivers in England?

Amazing how many people bleat about getting caught speeding.
It's not some kind of stealth tax.
Every road you drive down has big signs telling you how fast you can go.
Also, in this day and age your can buy a sat navs, which will make an annoying noise when your right foot becomes a little to heavy

Maybe it should be, but it isn’t so don’t complain that you got caught. You knew the rules, you chose to break them. Take your punishment like a grown up and stop crying about it.

As for money making, the police see none of it do they probably couldn’t give a **** whether it makes money or not. They’re just doing their job catching people breaking the law. Stop breaking the law and they’ll stop catching you.

Weird, your post made you sound like a bitter old man about it...

Also, driving at the speed limit makes it much less likely you’ll be in, or cause, an accident. So probably not many ‘whippy claims’ in your future.

I'm a safe driver, but i can spot a scam a mile off, driving too slow also causes accidents, it's just a massive money making thing that's all it is. Eventually people like me will just drive really really slow & the insurances will just go up, I guess the people at St Peters centre will benefit, I'm not bothered, no tears nothing, I'll just invite accidents legally.

It's weird how little importance is attached to people being killed on the roads compared to terrorism and the like.

Way, way more people are killed on the roads but for some strange reason it's viewed as acceptable to break those laws.

Yes, you could perhaps attribute some of that to overtaking vehicles when the lead car is going too slow, as opposed to a nonsense speed limit zone.

36mph isn't just creeping over the limit it is 20% over the limit. Exactly the same as being caught doing 84mph on a motorway by one of those new permanently on cameras on the sides of many gantries on the M6 and M1, amongst others.

31 or 32mph is creeping over the posted 30mph maximum speed and almost certainly would not get you a fixed penalty notice.

Not sure on the leeway tolerances I've heard 10% so anything over 33 in a 30 Zone you're on offer, 20% at 36 isn't just creeping over, I've noticed there are strategically placed at the bottom of hills where you need to brake to stop going over, no schools, no old people, no pedestrian crossings, absolutely nothing, but safety is paramount, a sheep from a nearby field may decide to pole vault into the middle of the road

Obviously there aren't enough murders/stabbings in the county of Lancashire so they must concentrate on drivers 'dangerously speeding' at 36mph in a 30mph zone. Imo there are far too many highly qualified/highly paid Lancashire police persons with not enough to do.
Yes!.........and when you're tucked up in your bed, they are out there dealing with drunken scumbags,
fighting, drug addicts disturbing the peace, etc. ...........

No tears shed at all, I'll take the speed awareness course & save the 3pts, drive like a old man get shunted I'll get it back on whippy claims, happy days.
Speed awareness course would do you good. Unfortunately, I suspect you’ll continue to think you know best and won’t listen anyway.

Ah, so you’re now going to go much slower than the speed limit rather than exceeding it? I’m afraid that is also driving like a pr1ck because as you point out driving slow can also be dangerous.

Why don’t you just drive at the limit and the speed safe for the conditions at the time within the limit?

As I said, it’s not a money making scam. The police don’t see the money. Driving too fast is a killer, stopping people spending saves lives.

To be perfectly honest, you don’t sound like a safe driver. You sound childish and dangerous.

Wish they’d spend more time pulling over people for using mobiles whilst driving. Young women and van drivers are the worst offenders typically imo. I bang my horn at anyone I see doing it. It doesnt half startle them. The van drivers are probably doing it for work reasons and the young women probably just to check what’s happened in the last 2 minutes on Facebook or Instagram.

The police will have a quota to fulfill, & upto now with a recent parking ticket & the speed awareness course my record throughout the years has been unblemished, no accidents whatsoever, if that's childish & dangerous so be it. I'm a strong supporter in road safety & not just fleecing people, like I said I'll just do everything by the book it's guaranteed to cause accidents, I'll just drive at 30 or whatever the speed limit requires & when impatient people shunter me or recklessly overtake me endangering other road users, not my problem. No tears & no dramas, happy days :D

Your argument for speeding basically seems to be "The bloke behind me wants to go faster and if I stop him he'll do something stupid." What a ridiculous stance to take.

Do us all a favour and hand your licence in until you've got the correct mentality to drive a car.

No accidents upto now, so in over 20 years I must be doing something right, I’ll drive to the limits at all times even if there’s a remote possibility of some random cow or sheep from a nearby field jumping over a wall & charging towards the road with some sort of death wish, happy days.

You don’t half talk some sh-ite.
“You’ll do everything by the book” ?
Except you didn’t when you got caught speeding.
It’s ridiculous that you think it’s to do with quotas rather than road safety - why don’t you raise that on your speed awareness course ? See if they pass you.

Why are you taking about impatient drivers recklessly overtaking you because you are driving at the speed limit ? You think that the reason for this is because you are driving too slowly ? The reason for it is simple - they are choosing to do what you did when you got caught and at some point they will get caught and no doubt bleat about it like you.

As for the OP and saying the police must not be busy enough that is such an ignorant ill informed comment - and let’s hope he is not unfortunate enough to end up in a position where he needs to call them out.

The van drivers are probably snap chatting what **** music they’ve got on. Strange folk.

Do people really think that the officers that sit waiting to catch the speeders are the same people that investigate serious crimes like murders & stabbings?

No accidents in over 20 years, I don’t have a problem with getting caught & seeing the punishment out, I’ll do everything by the book, accidents will be invited legally, I won’t be driving too slow or fast, when no danger is present (apart from daisy the cow 50metres away morphed into a super charged sprinting machine super engineered for speed & not milk) happy days.

Great - well done.
Your many posts on this thread talking sh-ite sound just like you “don’t have a problem getting caught”. You seem absolutely fine with accepting it - happy days indeed eh
