He was certainly an upgrade on Jensen at the time but not a patch on the keepers weve had since. I bet he cant believe his luck how his career is ending.

Totally agree with that, but incredibly some thought Jensen was better. Heaton & Pope have undoubtedly been an upgrade although Grant, it has to be said, had an outstanding season at Stoke in what was his only Premier League season. Alongside Heaton & Pope, he'd definitely come third.

Old Parry Grant. An utter liability when it came to palming shots back into the danger area.

He saved a penalty against Man utd in our first home game/season in the premiership that ensured a 1.. 0 victory. Though your take would probably be it was a badly taken penalty. Good Luck to Grant.

Obviously has the right personality to be a 3rd keeper. Probably a good influence on keepers around him and if he is involved with the U23s then they must appreciate an old head being behind a team of inexperienced kids

Peoples dislike for Jensen is hilarious. Top keeper for us who played a huge part in giving us the belief to be where we are today.

And had some good games in some of the matches that will live long in the memory. Chelsea. Man Utd. Wembley. The best of the bunch.

He had some off days. But who doesn’t. Grant certainly did. But good luck to grant. Decent keeper. But I’d say Jensen had a better career.

Grant was the best we'd had for years but in my humble opinion Tom and Nick are light years ahead of him. We had to wait 40 years for a good keeper and then like the proverbial London buses two came along within the space of three years. It was a crying shame for the manager to have to choose between two top keepers.

But fair play to Grant. He's obviously a very good professional.

also Reading at home in promotion season kept a clean sheet with a least 6 great saves (won 1 - 0 Blake) - a game we didn't deserve to win.

Arsenal in the cup!

still embarrased with 'injury' in home loss to Wigan...but a great servant for Burnley!

Lee did have a habit of palming chances to opposition forwards but overall was an improvement...and, thankfully, that's how we'll develop improving on former players!

Some rubbish written on here about Grant over the years. Not in the same league as Heaton and Pope, or Joe for that matter, but he was a lot better than what we'd had.

Was brilliant in the ruin in generally and the start of the following season. After the amazing turnaround against Palace (4-2) in March when we went 6th he didnt let another league goal in at Turf Moor from march until the 3-1 win against Sunderland in September. And kept a clean sheet in every play off game!

That run included Sheff Utd in the league, all three play off games, Man Utd and the penalty save, Everton and a few others.

So would I. Jensen did more for the club than Grant even considered. Grant was off at the first opportunity. No time for him.
Better than Gabor though!

Although Gabor did have a long international career that only ended 3ish years ago... so some people thought a lot about him

Remember Beast in that cup game v Wolves where he saved loads of Pens including a retaken one ....

Jensen has some good games, yes. But on the whole he was an average keeper and Grant was better.

Jensen and the ball was either in the back of the net or in the stand (sometimes the receiving player too).

Grant the ball was either in the back of the net or conveniently at the oppositions feet. At times it was so bad that I thought he was being paid off.

As a Derby fan said when Grant went back there... They have a very good goalkeeper coach who will improve him. A wise move financially but being 3rd choice at Manchester United doesn't deserve the same merit as playing week in week out for even a championship team and tells you everything you need to know about his character and ability.

I still have Grant down as one of the worst goalkeepers I have ever seen.

I remember him having a shocker at Blackpool (possibly a final day of a season) and he got some stick from the fans. Never thought would see him again and he started first game of the season after !

20-25 years worth give or take when I can really remember.

Great shot-stopper but I personally dislike keepers who don't come for crosses/command.

All personal opinions of course.

Which includes such as Crichton, Beresford, Michopoulos, Jensen - can't believe anyone would have Grant behind any of them

Oooo, now hang on. Beresford had some amazing games for us. Huddersfield away on their old ground sticks in the memory. Quick Google brings back this, but why I trailed over there for a Worthington Cup game is beyond me.

All goalkeepers have amazing games - the Worthington Cup game was at the new stadium by the way.

It wasn't that one then. Thought it was 0-0 but it's a long time ago. We got battered but Beresford kept us in it.

I definitely have fonder memories of Beresford than I do of Grant though. Different times and different levels I suppose.

Very much different levels - Marlon was embarrasing when he moved up a level, both times.

Can't place any game in the cups other than the 1-0 extra time win at the new ground in 2002/03 when Papadopoulos scored the winner.

I'd just started uni at Huddersfield and couldn't believe my luck with the draw. I dragged my new flat mates along to show off my team and they never forgave me. They didn't even get to see a penalty shoot out in the end

I've had to take a look. Definitely at Leeds Road and definitely Beresford playing so that means it had to be one of the 1-1 draws in 92/93 or 93/94. As well as not remembering the score, I have no idea who I was with or how I got there and back. Beer may have been involved. Marlon was MotM though.

Anyway, I think I've sidetracked this thread for long enough. Congratulations Lee Grant. Good, but never worthy of a fanzine being named after him.
