Re: Ben Mee
Taylor left a gap open at the back, which was exposed when Jay lost the ball. Ben had to make a decision and was a centimetre away from an inch perfect tackle.
He's won us far more points than he's cost us this season that's for sure.
What about giving Vydra stick for missing his chances?

All your marks on rate the player, the thread that will be run after today's 'cracking game and terrific performance', will be 10 then?Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Sat Mar 07, 2020 11:01 pmYes..that's exactly it. I cannot get my head around why, after watching that cracking game and terrific performance from us, the thing that you are moved to highlight for everyone is a mistake, which we all knew about anyway, evidencing that in your opinion Ben Mee isn't good enough to play for England.

Miles better? He’s simply not.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Sat Mar 07, 2020 11:20 pmA guy who loves the club, is an amazing servant to the club and to a large extent epitomises the club. He's brilliant in so many ways, but doesn't play for a top 6/7 club or for England for a reason. He can be absolutely fantastic, but sometimes makes the odd rick. That's why we have him and tbh, I'm glad we have him because he's still miles better than MOST other PL defenders.
He’s played how many PL seasons for Burnley now? Players that are better than most don’t play that long for a team like Burnley. Compare him to Trippier, Keane or Ings. 1 PL season is all it took before someone came and took them away.

I have said many times that he isn't good enough for and will never play for England.
Was it a shocker from Ben? Yes
Does it mean we don't want to see him in a Burnley shirt again? No
Did he have a good game overall? Not bad, but he's played better.
Do we love Ben Mee? Of course. He's a Claret that will be remembered for a very very long time.

They all do. Goalkeepers:Defenders directly get the blame when goals are conceded. Me personally don’t see the big deal with it. Strikers miss chances time and time again but never get slated for making mistakes. It’s one of those things. If defenders defended at 100% all the time they’d never be any goals.Dark Cloud wrote: ↑Sat Mar 07, 2020 11:47 pmI totally see what you're saying, BUT how many top PL defenders (or goalkeepers for that matter) don't make a costly error every now and again? I suggest you go and watch another team then. Maybe when you see how bad others are, you might appreciate him more. Ben Mee was outstanding today and the only reason he hasn't ALREADY been picked for England is because he plays for unfashionable Burnley. Even Tarky is struggling to get in the England squad and you can guarantee that Pickford will start in goal for the next England game, even though Pope is head and shoulders better. If those three played for Man Utd, they'd play every game.No Ney Never wrote: ↑Sat Mar 07, 2020 10:29 pmWho’s looking for a scapegoat and for what? Simple fact is that he will never be an England international and he has gifted to the opposition not for the first time this season. It was a p1ss poor penalty to give away.

Actually didn't mean to 'Like' your post because Vydra was excellent when he came on. The game changed when he did and we looked far more likely to score. Incidently, Tarks has been picked to join the squad the past few times they've got together, but he's had to pull out.

No, Tarks hasn't been in recent squads, probably because he was having some inconsistent games, especially when Sarfgate was watching. Yes Pope was there, but he should have been playing ahead of Pickford in the opinion of many.

Who’s pulling our captain apart? All I've said is that the penalty he gifted was poor, which you agree with, and that he'll never be a England international. That's it, that's all I've said. Why are so many supposedly intelligent blokes going on like women on the rag? (Apologies to any females on here, truth is I've never known women on the rag go on as bad as some on here ).Targetman wrote: ↑Sun Mar 08, 2020 12:11 amOur team plays really well tonight but you don't want to mention that, you would rather try to pull our captain apart. Re: Ben Mee
Years back, on coronation Street, Hilda Ogden won a prize of a stay in a posh hotel. And when she came back, she told Bet Lynch about a little bit of sugar that hadn't been washed off a cocktail glass. Which, as Bet said, was because she was the type of person who liked things just a little better if they weren't perfect and she could pick a hole.
No Ney (sic) Never is like Hilda Ogden. Just accept it, or ignore him if you can't. It's no big deal.

Maybe after he had missed the ball by a couple of minutes he might have kept his boot down but he instinctively took his back leg. Can’t complain about the decision to award the penalty. It happens.

Ben consistently gets to balls he has no write to get to. Yesterday he was covering for Taylor who was stranded upfield. It never ceases to amaze me how little a lot of our fans know. This should be a thread about how he so nearly made a brilliant challenge. He makes so many challenges he is bound to come a cropper more often than most. We are lucky to have him.

Might I suggest that bearing in mind football teams win and lose possession that every single penalty ever conceded will have someone making an error prior to the player committing the foul to give away the penalty.
It was a ridiculous tackle by Mee. He has gotten away with a few in recent weeks and today his luck ran out.
The frustration is that it completely changed the game. I can’t remember Pope making a save of any note (because we defended well) yet we gifted them a goal.
Also, did Pope not start the last England game or have I imagined that?

Yes, a nothing match but I'll bet Pickford starts the next.
As for Ben Mee, he misjudged a tackle having been left in a sh*t position by others but according to you it was a ridiculous tackle. What was he supposed to do, let him stroll through and score without even trying to stop him? Richard Head.

It was a shocking tackle and he will know it. In slow motion so the Spurs player had plenty of time to find a little contact.
He should either go for the block or run on the angle to slow the Spurs player down.
He played well for most of the game though and has bounced back from poor performances already this season.

You're the one that wants to grow up. Players make mistakes under pressure and Mee had been put under pressure by his own team mates. Why not blame them instead? Or why not blame Pope for diving the wrong way for the Penalty? Games are won and lost on slight errors and Mee's takle was a fraction from being a good one.arise_sir_charge wrote: ↑Sun Mar 08, 2020 9:54 amIt was a qualifier so a ‘competitive’ game.

Mee has taught Keane and Tarky how to play CH and without him, we'd be a much weaker team. Try appreciating that instead of slagging Captain Ben off becuse he made you cry. Do you think that you're the only one who was disappointed at the result?

That's because we'd not had a good left back for about a million years until Ward showed up.
