Misogynistic is a bit far - I would have said the same thing had it been a bloke.
It’s who she chooses to work for that is the issue....aswell as the way West Ham choose to go about their business and the crooked deal they did to buy the ground.
Re: Karen Brady wtf?
The season should ce completed no matter when that is. 3 games a week, until done.
Not that many matches left, after all.

Presumably there would be an even split in prize money. So asking top teams to sign away 10 to 20 million whist the bottom teams would benefit by 10 to 20 million. I can't imagine why she would be in favour of this.

There’s more to life than football.
Unless the fixtures can be fulfilled then unfortunately it’s null and void. It’s what happened when war was declared- Blackpool missed out last time, Liverpool will this season. Tough.
They’ll win next season anyway so who cares, it’s the only fair way.

Finish this season off when the all clear is given, and if it runs into and ruins next season, just fill what time is left with super lucritive knock-out cup competitions all the way up and down the divisions?
Re: Karen Brady wtf?
But if this season was cancelled it would also be nice to see the meltdowns at Self Pity City and Dirty.

Re: Karen Brady wtf?
What, What, The **** ... Karen Brady
One of the primary poster children for nepotism and a truly odious person. When Karen asks a group for something it is because that something is in Karen's best interest - even to the point of being very detrimental to the interests of everybody else.
The best solution would be to try and finish the season somehow, although I don't think that is going to be possible given the rapid rate of spread. Preserving the promotion / relegation dynamic by forcing all of the teams caught up in either to participate in playoff tournaments would be next.
Even if the scenario drags on for a protracted length of time replaying all the remaining games isn't a problem. We could simply split the current season over a period of two years, which would mean opening the leagues up again next March.
However, the stumbling block is finance. As others have said it would throw a lot of things up in the air. How would the length of player contracts be affected, sponsorships, potentially missing out on promotion revenue and so on.
The biggest financial problem for me in all of this is how it is going to affect the smaller teams. As we get further down the pyramid teams are more dependent on gate revenue to pay the bills. To some people ( although I can't think who ) it might seem okay for a self serving representative of a PL team to advocate scrapping the season now. Sadly that would signal the demise of quite a few clubs down the ladder if the PL clubs don't contribute to keeping them afloat.
This is a time when the strongest should be doing everything they can to put other people first. That means trying their best to protect those that are less resilient to the financial fallout from this virus. It isn't a time to entertain motions from opportunistic chancers that could potentially benefit themselves and their club at the expense of others. Putting forward such a motion, without addressing how it will impact others and what could be done to safeguard them, would be a truly reprehensible move at this juncture.
In a situation like this we should be looking to protect the weakest members of the leagues and the overall integrity of the football league. How the clubs who are already walking a financial tightrope can be helped through this situation is the most important thing to consider. The continued survival of those clubs is what the " powers that be " need to focus on, not the short term impact on the affluent financial giants of the PL who are better equipped to survive this.

Isn't the London Stadium continuously hired out from the scheduled end of the football season to the start of the new one? I suppose it is a specific problem that only West Ham have.

The 2 government advisers said coronavirus would peak in about 10 weeks. So going to be around several weeks after that. Personally, I think 5-6 months. In which case, end this season immediately and hope we can start a new season in August.
Liverpool deserve to be winners. Just not so sure what you do re the relegation and promotion places. Maybe just one team up and down?

Re: Karen Brady wtf?
I think it has to be one rule for all teams. And for that to be, we complete the season when it is safe to do so.
What happens after that can always be rearranged at a future time.

Re: Karen Brady wtf?
A game can be abandoned after 90+6 with one team 6-0 up, but if the ref says there was a minute left when the pitch fell down a mineshaft or the lights went out, the result will not automatically stand. It is at the discretion of the competition committee. Bradford's match with the fire stood as a 0-0 result even though only 45 minutes was played, because the result made no difference to the league outcome and there was no reason to replay. If the away team had needed that point to stay up, then they would have replayed it.CombatClaret wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2020 12:28 pmA game can abandoned after 60 minutes (not 100% on time please correct) but the result will still stand. The 'we could still mathamatically have won' argument applies here too but is ignored.
So I don't see with over 75% of the season played we can't abandon the league and the table stands.
The teams with a game in hand get assigned their average points per game rounded up or down to nearest whole number.
Other options
-There is a history of drawing lots or a coin toss to decide fixtures.
- Some kind of Duckworth-Lewis taking into account points per game, goals scored and conceded etc to calculate a final table.
I'm virtually certain there has never been a rule about 75% of the league making a valid season. Why would they ever want to make a rule like that? It happens so rarely and under such exceptional circumstances that a "one size fits all" rule would be nonsense. In this situation, it will be decided on an ad hoc basis.
A lot depends on when they can start up again. But it's very unlikely that they can relegate anyone, because the competition rules only allow for relegation at the end of the season or due to breach of rules. The "relegated" club could sue because they are not relegated in accordance with the rules.
But it would be perfectly possible to deny promotion to anyone in the Championship, because of they were to sue it would have to be on the grounds that they might have got promotion if the season had completed - but they can't sue the league for not completing, because it wasn't the Leagues' fault.
Most likely IMO is the suggestion of promoting 2 and relegating no-one. Same from League 1 to the Championship, and 3 from League 2 to League 1, so the leagues are 22-24-24-22. (The Conference leaders will replace Bury.) This is assuming that next season can start more or less on time, without there being time to comp-lete this one.
As for awarding Liverpool the Championship, that's the least controversial of all. At 25 points clear, it's far too blindingly obvious that they will win it, that no club is going to try and look so stupid and petty as to challenge it.
The teams that might have made the play-offs will just have to bear up and carry on. There is no way to settle this that doesn't adversely affect someone.
Re: Karen Brady wtf?
I’d suggest that all remaining games could be played behind closed doors at an independent location (St George’s Park) and have game after game etc, no rest breaks between matches and just get the games played and all televised. Could be over in a few days.

I doubt the players & clubs would agree to that over injury concerns and rightly so. Teams complain when they have to play a couple days apart due to lack of recovery time.

Re: Karen Brady w
First of all EUFA need to abandon, not postpone the 2020 Euro Championships. Then they need to abandon all European club competitions, namely Europa Cup/League and Champions League for 20/21 season. Then each Football Association for each country can decide which solution for this season they wish to pursue. This would allow a 12 month shutdown, with all fixtures to be completed by the first weekend in May 2021. All tv deals to be given a 12 month extension. In this country PFA and Premier League to discuss players contracts and wages. PFA nd EFL to do likewise. I expect there will be some casualties but that’s what the discussions will address. There will be problems but it will be the fairest way forward.

Re: Karen Brady wtf?
3 games a week, or games decided on penalty shoot outs only.
It would make a great day of "sport" - get all 20 teams together, goalie and 6 other players (including 1 sub). London Stadium would be great venue - lots of "wide open spaces" - keep everyone at least 2 metres apart (or whatever it is). Thinking about it, we'd only need the 2 opposing teams on the pitch for their own "game."
In fact they could "play" all 9 remaining rounds of games, each pair of teams stepping up in turn to take their 5 penalties. All 5 would have to be taken, as all pens scored would count towards goal difference.
Bonus, VAR couldn't mess anything up - well, so long as they work out what the goalie is and isn't allowed to do.
Maybe the Premier League could make a "super Saturday" out of these "penalty shoot out games."
Meanwhile, I'd like to see some "best of MoTDs" - or better still "these are the best bits we didn't show you earlier" games. So, instead of 10 mins of ManU (or other "top 6" favourite), let's have 10 mins of Burnley and, well Burnley, again. Maybe they could do a compilation of "Burnley beats a top 6 team." or "Burnley beats the reigning PL champions."
Barring that, I think I'm getting out the Capital Punishment DVD...

I'd settle for this. Leeds no promotion, Liverpool no title. Haha!
Re: Karen Brady wtf?
Seems Karen isn’t the only one with the same views as her, the president of Serie A club Brescia has decided its better to cancel the league.
Wonder if being bottom of the table has anything to do with it

Re: Karen Brady wtf?
Agree with you that Norwich would want league cancelling, but I very much doubt after a 30 year wait, that liverpool would want to cancel season.
But I very much suspect your statement was tongue in cheek!
Re: Karen Brady wtf?
The best solution I've heard so far is basically to write off next season as it wouldn't be able to start in August anyway.
That way you could finish off this season, starting in October, along with all the Europa Leagues, CL and FA cup and the qualifiers and friendlies for Euro 2021

Re: Karen Brady wtf?
What about a 15 mins a game 5a-side tournament. All at one venue. That would get the job done.Realistic scores in that sort of time too.
Re: Karen Brady wtf?
The president of Serie A club Brescia is none other than Massimo Cellino of Leeds United fame
