Alternatives to hand sanitisers

Post by Spijed » Sat Mar 14, 2020 6:17 pm

With the mass panic and bulk buying it seems there are a few good alternatives.

Seems washing up liquid is a good one to use, although could leave your hands feeling dry if used without water.
vinegar kills germs as well.

Washing up liquid been mentioned quite a lot. It dissolves the fat membrane of the virus which makes the virus fall apart and become inactive. So any type of soap that does that should work.

It can make your hands feel fry if used with water - not sure many would attempt to use washing up liquid without water.

If you need to sanitize your hands where water isn't available it is at least an alternative, likewise normal hand wash, without water, doesn't dry too badly.

Reminds me of that Ariel washing up liquid cartoon of a kid washing up with their mum ‘mummy, why are your hands so soft?.... Because I’m 12”

The company's that make them for both retail and wholesale will be working overtime. I can see the supermarkets and shops being flooded with them very soon.

You could use Woods Navy Rum Cask Strength with a bit of baby lotion but it would be an awful waste

About 4 teaspoons of bleach in 1 litre of water will do the job, I put 4 in 500ml to be sure

You can get cask strength Laphroaig at 58.6%, but it's an expensive option to chuck on your hands at £70 a bottle.

I'm fortunate to have saved a few spray bottles of Keircide 70/30 anti bacterial liquid from my days working with safety cabinets in Labs if it's good enough to kill every bug in a safety cabinet then I reckon it will do the same on my hands. A pound shop near to me is selling little bottles of watered down hand gel for £2, rip off.

I've got two bottles of the 2015 LAPHROAIG CAIRDEAS (The 200th Anniv Edition) They cost me £75 each and are now worth about £200 each at least. Needless to say, I won't be opening those to wash my hands, ha ha.

Now I am not advocating this in any way, shape or form, but I once hear tell of a prominent GP in the Calder Valley visiting the bog during a function at Tod Golf Club. All the stalls were occupied so he proceeded to unzip, yank out his member and **** in the sink. On noticing the line of blokes standing ar the urinals watching him, he remarked:" What are you lot staring at, it's the best antiseptic there is!"

Suppose you get a nice warm feeling as well....
