Re: Covid-19
On a positive note.
I thought it best to put in my repeat prescription at the earliest opportunity as it took 8 days to get them last time.
Request put in Tuesday , Tesco just texted it’s ready.

Sky News reporting increase of 28 UK deaths bringing the total in the UK to 128. Nothing official though so not sure where they get their figures from.
If true, quite surprising as you would expect the number of deaths to at least be about the same each day

I assume they have the test results back before they sadly die, knowing they had COVID-19. I assume that if anyone dies whilst having the infection the immediate cause of death would be COVID-19, which other countries may are or are not doing also.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 3:15 pmThey are certainly very quick with the post mortems for cause of death these days

At this stage in the curve you would be expecting them to still be rising until 14 days after complete lockdown.damo_whitehead wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 3:12 pmSky News reporting increase of 28 UK deaths bringing the total in the UK to 128. The worldometers figures are normally updated later in the evening.
But if indeed 28 then thats possible good news

No. Anybody who's been following this knows exactly how the stats are given. There's no secret. You haven't uncovered anything or invalidated the data. Re: Coronavirus / Covid-19
The reality is the public CAN play a huge part in suppressing this virus, but they'll have to realise that for a month or two changes are required in everybody's normal routines.I'm sorry if this is a minor inconvenience, tough s**t,it's a much bigger inconvenience for the elderly and the other at risk groups.HunterST_BFC wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 4:53 amWHY OH WHY
Have we stopped any testing?
Being blind to the problem only makes things worse.
How can you deal with an issue like this if people can spread it for 2 weeks I don't understand.
The front line staff are not being given the kit.
Some will already be infected
Life has suddenly become even cheaper.
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Plus I really can't understand the idiocy of some of the public.
eg a pub near me - a hen night of 20+? and plenty of other people inside. I drove past.
Is this actually a Darwinism way to deal with this?
Everyone in that Pub will go home, to, in the most part to someone or with someone. Then carry on as normal with - kids, parents, work. friends etc... then it goes further... and further.
These people above will also include those who Fill Cars With hundreds of Loo Rolls and just about everything else.
So selfish and braindead.
BUT
Then they'll demand a 999 and immediate response when Gran / Dad / (you choose) has a cough. A bit of a temperature...
Demand shouting at A&E that their loved one deserves better care.
(and it also won't be long before the idiots will start also scathing about why there are fewer soap's (episodes not bars) and how their the life is being sapped from living...
With several wishing they were on Love Island, because it's sunny and at least if I get in I'll be a "Celeb"....
So it turns out - Less Soap is better for us and soaps can't cure this.
If people can't see or know they are probably / possibly infected - behaviour carries on.
Then not just the idiots are at risk. We all are.
If we all are all "more" at risk more people will die.
Darwinism unfortunately is happening but likely not focusing to take the idiot gene -... and probably by numbers - it will enforce the idiot gene further.
(sorry for my "minor" rant - don't kick me for stating my thoughts - Keep Safe All)
As an anecdote a guy in my father's workplace strolled in yesterday morning, even though he'd been in contact with someone who'd tested positive, the complete balloon didn't seem to see any issues in his behaviour, now either he's as thick as mince,or he's been living on Mars for the past few weeks, and all the news bulletins, and public health warnings have somehow escaped his attention.
A second anecdote travelling to work yesterday on public transport, thankfully much quieter than usual,so i was able to socially distance, and i couldn't help overhearing this young girl chatting on her mobile, according to her there's no problem with people carrying on as normal"as it's only a touch of flu",now what might be a touch of flu for her, could be potentially fatal for granny and granddad,or another relative or friend of hers with a underlying health issue, but it won't matter because apparently she'll not catch this disease as she's never ill,if this is what a lot of the general public really think, then this is going to be a harder task than we can imagine, the ignorance and casualness displayed by some people is bonkers, and it needs to quickly change.

Integrated ones are less of an issue, but chest, upright and under counters are practically all gone for weeks. I'm hopefully getting 3 on my next run and then that's that. Freezerpocalypse.

Re: Covid-19
On death certificates, there are often two or more causes. Usually a primary cause of death with optional "other factors". For example, the England figures for deaths by flu and pneumonia are about 90,000 per year where flu or pneumonia or both are on the death certificate, but only about a third of those where it's the principal cause.claretonthecoast1882 wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 3:23 pmYou mean those who have died who had a history of ill health and other illnesses only 1 can definitely be the cause ? Coronavirus deaths will be the same. How they decide whether it's coronavirus with aggravating other condition, or other condition with aggravating coronavirus, I don't know.
(Incidentally, flu and pneumonia take between them about 300 people per day on average; presumably higher in winter than in summer.)

Necessity is the Mother of Invention as they say, and it seems that necessity is having a remarkable effect on the production of new anti viral treatments. By all accounts, China is leading the way but a lot of countries are apparrently close to effective treatments. Those effective treatments for the old and frail, could be as little as a month away. Let's hope so.

Extract: Favilavir, the first approved coronavirus drug in China. The National Medical Products Administration of China has approved the use of Favilavir, an anti-viral drug, as a treatment for coronavirus. The drug has reportedly shown efficacy in treating the disease with minimal side effects in a clinical trial involving 70 patients. The clinical trial is being conducted in Shenzhen, Guangdong province.

I suggest you try to support your smaller local businesses. Butchers seem to have plenty of meat at the moment. Local dairy farmers as well perhaps.
Re: Covid-19
The science on this has not changed one bit, because we've known for months the demographic the virus tends to be deadly to, and also how quickly it spreads when let loose in a population without immunity. That has been fairly consistent from before anyone here caught it. The government's reaction - unlike governments of other countries - was to do little or nothing. That only changed when the actual numbers became more publicly known.CrosspoolClarets wrote: ↑Wed Mar 18, 2020 10:23 pmHad the misfortune of skimming the last page on the Boris thread. Quoting the whole post on this more relevant thread to avoid accusations of lack of context.
But anybody who posts things like “Johnson was willing to let half a million of us die” must be so far removed from reality that it discredits every other post they have ever made. Crikey, this thing is really exposing some of us.
We were led by the science (which we are leaders in), and the science evolved as the numbers became clearer. That’s the kind of country we are. We could of course be like China, covering it up for 3 weeks with the cost of many lives worldwide, or like Russia, who aren’t open with case numbers. We could be like Hong Kong, South Korea or Japan who are all more autocratic and happier to accept social restrictions before the scientific evidence justifies it. But liberals hate that stuff, and it is hypocritical not to accept that our way is our way.
The scientists modelling all this are doing a great job. The leading guy at Imperial has now even got it himself. Let’s just stay behind them, do our bit to suppress this thing, and all be heroes. We will all have helped save lives. Every one of us. Not sure there has ever been a time in the history of our country we have said that.
The scientists didn't tell the government what to do. They provided the government with the facts, and the government then decided on their course of action. That course of action can be judged by the reaction of this American expert:

I really have an intense hatred for all these supermarket wan*kers bulk buying. Selfish beyond belief, sc um of the earth.
Re: Covid-19
A link to the national statistics was provided previously that had those figures, I can no longer find it but I recall it
Re: Covid-19
do the numbers really matter in terms of it being almost exact? On the Trump Fact Checker on BBC, he had quoted 37K dying from flu, in the fact checker they said it was difficult to pinpoint exactly but it was in the 10's of thousands and could be up to 50K. I think it easy to just accept that 10's of thousands die in the UK for it and more than 100K worldwide.
It is the same trying to obsess with how many from C-19 have got it, I don't think anyone can believe that the numbers quoted for any country are the total number of people who have had the virus. Where you can believe fairly accurately that the number of deaths are accurate or close, the main reason the percentage of deaths per country are misleading IMO of course but do give an indication.

On the whole I have not agreed with many of Gordaleman's posts here but this one is highly significant. There was a professor on TV yesterday arguing that although a preventative vaccine would be a holy grail it was something that will not be available for 12 months at least. Effective treatments of the symptoms (especially the viral pneumonia) are something that are probably much closer. Not only would these directly reduce deaths but more importantly they would reduce recovery times and free up beds quicker thus indirectly enabling more critical care. I'm not a Pollyanna about this at all but I do think this is where we may see the disease being made less dangerous. It's odd that there has been very little press discussion about treatment.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 4:31 pmNecessity is the Mother of Invention as they say, and it seems that necessity is having a remarkable effect on the production of new anti viral treatments. All the data provided on here, the max I have seen has been around 25k.
The gov experts say 8k average normal with a 15k max.
So I am just suggesting 90k is higher than all the evidence suggested.
