Sky News reporting increase of 28 UK deaths bringing the total in the UK to 128. Nothing official though so not sure where they get their figures from.

If true, quite surprising as you would expect the number of deaths to at least be about the same each day
Now updated to 40
The highest daily figure to date.

And today Italy overtook China for total deaths.

Italy’s figures should start coming down this weekend if their total lockdown is working

So the mail are claiming she tested positive for Covid. Also saying it real.

Everything in your world is fake, data, videos, government reports.

That is unless it fits with your view of the world.

I am sure the 427 people who died in the last 24 hours in Italy is also fake news.

Oxford Street should also be under control. Have they taken it out from martial law yet, do you know?

Wow!

Matt Hancock on Question Time has just said that 1,400 companies have come forward to make more ventilators. F1 has also offered to make some.
Most of the top blue chip companies have, Nissan, Boeing, Airbus, JLR, Rolls Royce, McLaren etc

All more than capable of doing this at a few weeks notice

Matt Hancock again on Question Time. "I have been buying thumb prick antibody test kits TODAY."

That's the test that allows people, particularly health workers to test themselves to see if they have had Covid 10 and have built up anti body resistence that allows them to return to work without risk.

Things are moving fast.

The test for hospital staff is an absolute must, my mother is a very well qualified nurse and she’s sat at home all week because of a cough last weekend. She said there’s absolutely nothing wrong with her other than a tickle cough for a few days but she can’t go to work, that’s just madness, surely they should be tested straight away.

A link to the national statistics was provided previously that had those figures, I can no longer find it but I recall it
ONS ref 008999

This is really tricky stuff for us amateurs - even the much quoted flu number is from FluMOMO modelling, a variant (subset?) of EuroMOMO, as I understand it, not what's recorded on death certificates. I'm not nearly prepared to give it enough time to get anywhere near really understanding it!

In the absence of basic foodsuffs on the supermarket shelves I have been supplementing my diet with Animal Grade Hay from my local Pet Shop.

It is cheap but does have it's disadvantages which results in rather frequent visits to the lavatory. This could prove inconvenient with the current bog roll crisis. Some employee nicked 17 rolls from work today. They were your huge industrial types like you find in pub bogs.

Those elderly posters will recall IZAL toilet paper. No one in their right mind would pinch that stuff. It was as effective as using greaseproof paper and it smelled worse than turds.

I suppose that I could purchase more Hay and use it to wipe my arse.

Wow gosh ,all those people queuing and panic buying are down to me !!!

The reason people are panic buying is because they are sheep and are selfish but feel they are safeguarding their loved ones.

If people had seen this coming they could have started stocking up earlier like I did.

I hope you can find milk for your grandchild as no mother should have that worry.

I suggest you watch Boris’s press conference tomorrow.

You might also want to say what you think will happen over the next 12 weeks. Dont say nobody knows. Make a judgement on what is known.

This morning when I spent £8 in Lidl I bought a box of Chocolates and after I paid I gave the chocs to the check out girl as a thank you for serving us in these difficult times.
She was really pleased and said a big thank you and said she would share them in the staff canteen. Other people behind me said what a lovely thing to do.

If only the ******* idiots that be could put this kind of effort into tackling poverty, knife crime etc. A handful of people dead at the cost of the future of this country. Madness. Absolute ******* madness.

I agree. I found the figures and maths offensive but the proposition, however crudely put, that there is a balance between economic and social cost and lives isn't even remotely controversial.

first and foremost, a nice thing to do, applause, stop think, what about if you are a carrier, early in the cycle, you handle a box that also may have been handled by others recently, you give it to a stranger, gratefully accepted. She later passes said box around with all her colleagues because she is also nice, now a number of people can be infected who can go home and infect there families and in turn they...…………..

This is not a blame you/criticize you post but merely an example of how quickly a virus can spread, hopefully you and the box have no infection for others, maybe you had just tested yourself, unlikely but..... Maybe you had some hand sanitizer and you used yourself and on the box before presenting said gift.

stay safe and be nice to everyone.

Regards the box of chocolates the potential is there for anyone, even in complete isolation who gets home deliveries, to get the virus as every piece of food packaging could have traces of the virus on it!

If it's an opinion there is no right or wrong, however unpopular that opinion might be, you'll always get some people agreeing & disagreeing.

The test for the virus is not 100% accurate as no test is. I cannot find any data on the sensitivity and specificity for the testing but if you can get a false negative result it is not much use telling someone not ill with a cough that they can return to work when in fact the could have Covid-19.

absolutely with out a shadow of doubt and that is why we all need to be careful, I mentioned somewhere on one of the threads, we had Take away Saturday evening, I collected and was wearing gloves. Got home and I got out the three meals, all 3 in microwave and nuked, I wrapped and disposed of said packaging, gloves thrown away with that. Hot tap on using elbow, soap hot water, happy birthday, hand sanitizer, meal served from container to plate by me alone, everyone get cutlery and meal, sink full of new hot soapy water, everyone puts there I wash up.

Now that doesn't mean something couldn't have been transmitted but am trying to plan all around this and doing things I would never do normally, yet many others just carry on as though nothing is happening. Just seen a news report about the American youth pouring into Florida for Spring Break, interviewed a few and all saying same, it's no big deal, we are not missing our parties and if we get it so what, wont affect us that much!

Was only trying to highlight the potential to spread and again wasn't having a go at the poster but trying to highlight the potential if we don't think very carefully about what we are doing, I certainly will not be accepting anything from strangers, but that's just me.

All the data provided on here, the max I have seen has been around 25k.

The gov experts say 8k average normal with a 15k max.

So I am just suggesting 90k is higher than all the evidence suggested.
I have posted it more than once on this thread, but here it is again. Download the spreadsheet towards the bottom of the page for full analysis of all deaths in England from 2015-2017 where flu and/or pneumonia were listed on the death certificate as a cause of death.

In summary:

Table 3: Number of deaths where Influenza or Pneumonia is mentioned anywhere on the death certificate
2015 = 102,507 (92.1% over 65)
2016 = 96,031 (91.3% over 65)
2017 = 94,911 (91.8% over 65)

Table 1: Number of deaths where Influenza or Pneumonia is the underlying cause
2015 = 31,574
2016 = 29,342
2017 = 29,482

That is 31% each year, to the nearest whole number.

Remember this is just England. To extrapolate it to the whole of the UK, add 20% assuming the rates for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are similar.

You're right we should all take extra precautions at this time,i'd advise young people especially not to underestimate the danger of this virus.

They might not be as safe as they think.

Isn't it the same thing with most diseases? Just because your friend had a few days off school with flu, coronavirus, or mumps doesn't mean that you can't get it critically and die. The official stats still say that no child under 10 has died of coronavirus - in practice, how dangerous does that make it?

Yes children for some reason don't appear to develop severe symptoms with this illness,however there's still a lot of doubt as to how much they might be able to spread it,and that's the biggest problem,many children may well be asymptotic on the surface,but they could still be carriers.

I'm not one of those who's in panic mode by any means,however it's better to err on the side of caution until the scientists have further information.

The problem isn't generally with the younger person's health,unless they've got other ailments,most will quickly recover,but we all should have the well-being of our elders in mind,and if that involves making sacrifices so be it,i sympathise with those youngsters who'll miss out on some of their social events,but everybody is in the same boat in that respect.

Life from now onward will significantly change as a result of this.

The knock on effects are immense.

All the best.

Don't flatter yourself, as others have pointed out its people like you, not just you

Why on earth would you want someone on here, to guess what might happen? I think the nobody knows view is probably the best in this situation.

What I would hope for, is a lot lower death figure than what you keep spouting. Government figures put the annual death rate for flu at 9000, in a bad year a bit higher, and that's with millions having a yearly injection to protect against it. Now before you jump down my throat, iam only using flu as an example because it is spread in a similar way.
The government are quoting figures of around 20,000 so that would be roughly double a normal flu year
I don't think we've reached 9000 globally yet, and all countries have put in measures to stop the spread, so perhaps the UK could keep under the 20,000, but as much as you hate it, nobody knows.

absolutely with out a shadow of doubt and that is why we all need to be careful, I mentioned somewhere on one of the threads, we had Take away Saturday evening, I collected and was wearing gloves.

How many things did you touch with your gloves on?

Isn’t the rate for flu and flu related deaths closer to 17,000 a year?

first and foremost, a nice thing to do, applause, stop think, what about if you are a carrier, early in the cycle, you handle a box that also may have been handled by others recently, you give it to a stranger, gratefully accepted.

In that analogy wouldn’t she, after handling the box, have to lick her fingers? As she is working on the checkout she is handling every individual item that is in the shopping.

What supermarkets should do is have staff members at the door with hand sanitizer and not allow people in unless they use it.

Perhaps if you add in pneumonia etc it could be, I've only seen the 9000 figure, either way it's a high number which nobody seems to bat an eyelid at every year.

2015 = 102,507 (92.1% over 65)
2016 = 96,031 (91.3% over 65)
2017 = 94,911 (91.8% over 65)

Table 1: Number of deaths where Influenza or Pneumonia is the underlying cause
2015 = 31,574
2016 = 29,342
2017 = 29,482

That is 31% each year, to the nearest whole number.

Remember this is just England. To extrapolate it to the whole of the UK, add 20% assuming the rates for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are similar.

https://www.ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulation ... 2015to2017
Thanks dsr, I knew I had seen it previously.

Depends what you take. Last 5 years' average is 17,000 but Chris Whitty does seem to quote about half that, maybe based on longer-term figures.

I’m amazed anybody would go through all that for a takeaway! Fair play :lol:

Tim Martin of that lovely bar chain Weatherspoons is insisting people come into his bars to spread this virus quicker and get it over with, quoting advice from weeks ago before the info changed. He actually admitted he wanted to get rid of stock that would go out of date on live radio this morning... utter bellend

You are right to be careful. I personally wouldn’t be ordering take away ( especially not Chinese). People making it are breathing over it and handling the food.

The test for the virus is not 100% accurate as no test is. I cannot find any data on the sensitivity and specificity for the testing but if you can get a false negative result it is not much use telling someone not ill with a cough that they can return to work when in fact the could have Covid-19.
Not quite true. Novacyte , a UK company have a 2 hour test that has a 99.9% specificity for Cov-19. The test has undergone clinical validity and has CE mark and awaiting FDA approval since beginning of February. The Novacyt tests are being used by NHS - over £1m ordered about 10 days ago.
