Fantastic gesture from kev and the other lads

Great gesture and a further example of McClean actually being a pretty decent bloke.

Good to see one of our lads doing acting in this manner. Yes, he can afford to. Yes, he could have given more. But then chances are KL, like many other players, donates to charity without the general public knowing.

I don't know if it has been mentioned elsewhere on the boards, but the lads and the club recently chipped into to help the foodbank.

Casting the net even wider a lot of people involved in football have been actively looking for ways to help out and make a contribution that will assist others. Players like Zaha are making the rental properties in their portfolios available free of charge to the NHS workers and some people are going all out to make a difference, like Steve Morgan of Wolves.

The way that the vast majority of people are pulling together, looking for ways to help as many people as possible get through this difficult time, is heart warming. We saw something very similar with the demonstration of " The Dunkirk Spirit " in the last World War. In fact we always see it happen when things get tough and everyone is dropped into a big pile of ****. People start to work together to get everyone out of the **** and when they succeed it generally changes their outlook and their concept of what is actually important.
After the last World War we saw the creation of the Health Service and lots of widespread social reforms. It is in the quiet times that people deviate from what is important and start chasing wildly after money and shiny baubles to the detriment of our humanity and social responsibilities. I don't know if that will happen this time around, because people are far more devoted to the maket driven " more you can buy the happier you will be " fallacy these days. It could represent a turning point or when the danger dimishes the majority of people could return to their " All for one and more for me " ways.
The communist economic model doesn't work, but neither does the Western capitalist model. The former disregards the impetous to live comfotably that promotes action and the latter ignores the fact that our happiness is dependent on the happiness and well being of the people around us. It is far easier to be happy in a happy environment and the people we help today could be the people that we find ourselves turning to for help tommorrow. Helping others out can be seen as a charitable act, but it can also be viewed as a self serving means of ensuring the survival of our own happiness.
Irrespective of how a person chooses to interpert the supportive reasoning for demonstrating compassion our pursuit of happiness is always dependent on the people we share our lives with. The blind pursuit of money eventually leads to a point of diminishing returns when it comes to happiness. One of the hardest lessons to learn is knowing when you have enough and when the time has come to change direction and focus on fidning other ways to promote general happiness, which applies to people and countries.

Devils Advocate will soon be along to tell us that Long did this for the publicity and to have a chance to get into the Ireland team - hang on he has already played 14 times for his country!ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sun Mar 22, 2020 12:15 pmDonated towards the fun to help the players who are not being paid
