Re: Covid-19
Just been told a former Army colleague a superbly fit and really popular bloke is in Hospital unconscious after contracting pneumonia which they suspect is Corvid-19. His wife is in isolation at home and cannot receive visitors, not even their own grown up children.
I hope it isn't and am deeply distressed for his wife and family.

And if it actually was lowbank doing that then he's making a better fist of quarantine than me trying to wrestle pasta off a massive asian dude at the corner shop. Massive. Whilst it was only advice it was always going to be ignored by a number of people. It seems like a large majority of companies and individuals took the advice on board. I don’t think the small minority of ‘idiots’ have really lead to the lockdown. It was inevitable as we’ve seen in other countries.

Re: Covid-19
To my UK friends, please don't take this the wrong way but in Italy there wasn't enough emphasis placed on the seriousness of the virus and the ease it transmitted in the community. Once the leaders started taking it seriously, so did the people...
“The moment the politics changed and started to speak in a more clear and direct way, people’s behaviour also changed and people developed more of an attitude of awareness. The moment Italians were told to stay at home and rigid containment measures were introduced, the majority of the population complied.”
Here are some things I've learned from the lockdown here in Spain...
1: The days before lockdown are worse than lockdown because everybody's shitting it.
Once it begins you don't see people flouting it and if you haven't got it then staying at home, healthy, and in theory safe is VERY reassuring.
2: I work from home anyway but dropping my boy off at the school a few times a day and going to football training ensured I always did 8k steps so I am doing less walking but, if the youtube ad is to be believed, I will have a six-pack when all this is over and I've also dusted off the weights.
3: Kids are fine, they'll find a nice corner to read and come to you when they want to play, and I'm not being funny, kids would play fortnite, with their friends twenty-five hours a day if they had their choice. Go fortnite!?
4: This will one day be over, it's a virus that can be stopped and will be stopped.
This one is VERY IMPORTANT...
5: On the day of the lockdown the supermarkets will be FULL of people stocking up and the shelves will be empty. The day AFTER lockdown, the shelves will have been restocked and everyone will be social distancing. Don't panic, just wait a day or two.
6: Chill, the world isn't going to hell in a handcart, the best and brightest of us are working to develop vaccines, these are based on things we already knew from similar viruses. People are saying the world will be different but it won't, things will get back to normal but we'll all have awesome abs from only 7 minutes a day!

Re: Covid-19
Agree with T.rex about the supermarkets in Spain. I also live in Spain and in the days leading up to the lockdown there was mass over purchasing in the supermarkets with plenty of empty shelves. Once the lockdown came into force however and people realise the supermarkets are still open and being supplied, they return to a more normal level of business without panic buying.
Mrs Vino and I have been in lockdown for nearly two weeks, not able to leave the house except for going to buy essentials (food, medicines etc). I can actually walk my dog outside but only close to my urbanisation. It's not easy believe me, but that's the way it is, it's the only way to combat this disease at the moment. You'll all have to get used to it, please take it seriously and stay safe.

Good they'll probably try the softly softly approach at first, but clearly if that doesn't work they'll have to come down hard,if they've got the numbers.that could be problematic.
Police hoping to enforce measures 'by persuasion'
Daniel Sandford
Home Affairs Correspondent
Senior police officers are reluctant to get involved in continental-style enforcement, they want to police by consent.
They will have the power to fine but they are hoping to do this by persuasion.
This is not a revenue-raising exercise, it's about trying to make sure those shops are shut and gatherings don't take place.
The police are also expecting to lose a lot of their officers due to illness or family illness over the coming weeks.

Some of it will, easy to stop groups, gatherings etc, but who's going to count the number of times you go out to exercise... Honest officer it's my first time.... Getting stopped in the car, there are numerous reasons why you'd be out, shopping, chemist, etc.
And before certain people jump down my throat, or misquote, iam not saying this what you should do, it's an example of how difficult it will be to police

Re: Covid-19
Regarding taxis, to go to the hospital for example, the taxi system is working normally here but they will only accept one person in the taxi at a time. Also, my wife and I are not allowed to use the car together, i.e. only one person in the car at a time (there some exceptions like driving an ill person to the hospital etc). I don't know if this will happen in the UK but it's the kind of thing you have to get used to.

Re: Covid-19
Ah, the police. I live in Bournemouth and, about this time last year, my son had his bike stolen. Amazingly, my wife and I saw it being ridden by someone the very next day. We trailed him and when we were about fifty yards from the Bournemouth police station, my wife decided that it would be an idea to leap from the car, pull the offender from the bike and retrieve it. I had misgivings about her decision and rang the station to request assistance. Even though they were in such close proximity, they couldn’t spare any constables and we were left to deal with the situation ourselves. A huge fracas ensued and we retrieved the bike. After sitting in the car for about half an hour with the bike in the back and the thief having fled, I received a call from the
police to say that the dog patrol would be with us within in about half an hour. I told them not to bother but they told us to sit tight and wait as they wanted to make sure that we were okay. We sat there for a while as we a little shaken by the whole affair. About fifteen minutes later, they rang back to say that the dog patrol wouldn’t be coming after all as they had been diverted to another incident and so we went home. This only fifty yards from a major police station.
The police simply won’t be able to handle this.

To be fair though, the Bournemouth Police have probably never dealt with anything on that scale before. Forces who normally deal with crimes more serious than bus pass fraud will be fine.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2020 10:48 pmAh, the police. Re: Covid-19
The Met aren't making encouraging noises.
'Very, very difficult' for Met Police to cope
Enforcing the lockdown in London will be "very, very difficult", a police group has warned, as officers themselves deal with sickness and self-isolation.
"It will be very, very challenging and very, very difficult for us with what's put in front of us," said Ken Marsh, chairman of the Metropolitan Police Federation, which represents officers in the capital.
"But we don't actually know what is being put in front of us yet and we're going to be asked to disperse crowds, it's going to be a real, real challenge.
"We will be dealing with it, but I'm not sure we will have the resources to be able to see it through."
The Army could be brought in to help, he added in his interview with Sky News.
Now if only some idiot hadn't cut police numbers in recent years, just maybe they'd have the capability to mount such a major operation in the capital, just a thought.

However you choose to phrase it, it was blindingly obvious, lowbank & paulatky picked up straightaway a few others weren't far behind, some are still stuck in traps & some just starting out. Dead people dropping like flies tends to give a few clues away even at a early stage to people switched on.
