Fighting, deaths, destruction, good amount of boobs and an easy enough story to follow.

Just about a yes. I watched it from episode one right through to the last one. It got a bit repetitive at times and there is too much gratuitous violence and sex in my opinion, and the whole story line does become long winded to the point of being tedious, but I did want to know how it ended so I persevered .

Re: Game of Thrones Yes or No
Breaking Bad. Will take you a week or so if you are dedicated.
Re: Game of Thrones Yes or No
Best show ever made, despite a terrible ending. The book series isn't finished yet, so the TV producers were given a map of the course of the story by the author. While it following the published books it was perfect, especially the first four seasons. As soon as the producers/writers were left on their own without source material to draw from it dropped in quality a bit, though season six was amazing and had some of the show's all-time high points. Then seasons 7 and 8 were truncated to seven and six episodes respectively instead of the usual ten, the plot was rushed seemingly with the intent to move from set-piece to set-piece as quickly as possible, turning the calculated pacing upside down and chucking character work aside, and some genuinely baffling story decisions were made that defied the sense of logic the show was at pains to establish in earlier seasons. In spite of it being butchered by the end, mainly owing to the decision to shorten the last two seasons (George RR Martin would have wanted as many as thirteen seasons instead of the eight we got) but also by adopting more and more generic drama tropes towards the end, it's still an amazing show and worth it for the first four seasons alone. Be patient, focus on the names of people and places at all times because the show eventually expects you to have a mental picture of the world which makes it more engaging when, say, a character recounts an event that happened a decade or so prior to the events of the show. Some people enjoy it better the second time they watch it for this reason, being more familiar with the names and places.

The sopranos is my favourite series of all time. Its absolutely brilliant. Just wish I'd watched it at the time as I think you appreciate it more rather than binge watching a series after series
Re: Game of Thrones Yes or No
Everyone is saying dragons and boobs, dragons and boobs, dragons and boobs, but I promise you, the dragons are the most boring part of the show.

Don't really get all the fuss about it tbh. Not a patch on the Sopranos or the Wire.

It's far from the best show ever made. Breaking Bad, the Wire, The Sopranos, Succession and Better Call Saul are all much better.Spiral wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2020 10:13 pmBest show ever made, despite a terrible ending. Re: Game of Thrones Yes or No
Big fan of sci-fi and fantasy, so I'm always going to lean more towards a show like Thrones over those you've mentioned. I've watched The Sopranos three times. Love it, but its awareness of its place in canon (and if I could be an up-myself-arsehole and say 'deconstruction' of the mafia mythos) leads to it paying homage (a creative choice) to other mafia stories in such an abundant way that it never feels truly unique. Say one thing for Thrones, you could look at any single frame of it and know it's GoT without ever having watched it. The Wire has an interesting concept, using each individual season to independently look at the drugs problem in a city from perspective of the policing, the economy, the dealers, the media, and politics, but I found the bread-and-butter narrative and character archetypes used to propel the concept to be quite boring. It's cliché-ridden. Breaking Bad is what would happen if a soap opera were to take a hit of LSD and strive to create high-art. By that I mean its narrative structure is closer to a soap than an epic in the literary sense. Great fun, some great moments, but its narrative from season to season is less tightly interwoven than GoT and thus some events feel less important, to me. Some of the acting in it is horrendous. Jesse and his mates, Walt's wife and her sister, all annoying performances that get on my t!ts. I probably won't watch Better Call Saul for it being a supposedly inferior spin-off to a show I already consider to be a bit overrated. I'm yet to watch Succession, though I've heard a lot of good things about it.Claret-On-A-T-Rex wrote: ↑Mon Mar 23, 2020 10:43 pmIt's far from the best show ever made. Re: Game of Thrones Yes or No
In the interests of me not being misrepresented as a nonce to people who may not have seen the show, I think it’s important for me to point out that the actress in question certainly wasn’t 14 at the start of the series. I also don’t think any actual age was attributed to the character in the TV show.

Without knowing this hell was coming between us we got the boxsets for Spiral, Gomorrah, The Killing and Vera at Xmas. Spiral watched, halfway through the Killing.
All top shows if you can find them, you won’t need to look hard for Vera.
GOT worth a watch but not as great as its tifosi made out.

To be honest there's probably no more gratuitous violence, rape or barbarism in GoT than in any point picked at random during the real wars fought during the time of the Plantagenet kings, the reformation, or the total war of ancient Rome, all periods of history from which GoT draws inspiration.
