It's the gallows humour that gets us through tough times, but anyone wishing ill will on the Johnson should think twice; Dominic Raab will run the show if Johnson becomes too ill to work or worse. I think sensible people will realise this. Of course some people will indeed come out with crap on Twitter. They only do it to get noticed, so it's best not to encourage them, either by responding on Twitter or linking their Tweets to UTC.

"It's the gallows humour that gets us through tough times" - and nothing wrong with that so long as it doesn't go too far or his supporters get all offended at nowt really.

No. It simply goes to the polling station and calmly puts an "X" in the appropriate box.

Seeing the video of Boris revealing he had the symptoms, a persistent cough and a temperature, I thought with this virus you couldn't go more than a few seconds without a serious coughing fit as it was that bad?

Simply that - just putting an “X” in the box

....nothing more and nothing less......

......well almost apart from spending 23 hours a day on a football message board for the last year with enough content to make War & Peace look like a Mr Men book

.....but apart from that simply put an X in the box and not telling a soul about it.

No, we won't, Ringo, and it's pretty sad that you'd even think that but with a bit of luck we'll have your wind-up, repetitive, self-centred nonsense either curtailed or stopped for good. Choice is yours, I guess.
Get it into your head, these pretty serious issues are not about you and people do, generally, seem to want to discuss them. I would hazard a guess that your comments are being deleted not because the mods agree or disagree with you but because they think you are acting, yet again, like some selfish, attention-seeking child.

The thread title is "Boris Watch"

The majority of British people believe he and his government are doing a good job in unprecedented circumstances.

They've built a hospital for 4000 patients out of thin air in a matter of days FFS is a minor miracle!!

But even that wont be good enough for those political point scoring lefties whose motto is

"Dont let a good crisis go to waste"

Given the latest opinion polls, you're utterly and entirely wrong. I absolutely do represent the mainstream view.

To build a build a 4000 patient hospital out of bloody thin air in a matter of days.

To guarantee no evictions.

To defer MOTs

To defer business rates

Mortgage holidays.

To back the majority of ALL workers wages upto 80% /£2500 ( unprecedented and according to an expert would normally take years to organise)

Push back tax demands for business/ individuals

Ordering 10s of thousands of new ventilators

Plus many other moves to help individuals and the economy in a matter of days . Is nothing short of a minor miracle !

And yet, for the the tiny rump of whining, sniping band of vociferous agenda driven lefties , nothing is ever going to be good enough.

Some excellent measures, indeed, Ringo and nobody's arguing.
Just one small point, the EXCEL has been open for 20 years and not been built out of thin air.

I know. Do you want to tell him that the EXCEL may well have been open for 20 years. But not as a staffed and functioning hospital for 4000 patients, and created as such, in a matter of days. ?

I reckon we should we just give him time for some calm reflection.

Sadly self awareness is not in his nature, or he’d have surely gone a long time ago.

He claims to be in the majority mainstream, but in reality even the posters who are instinctively more right-leaning find him totally embarrassing. The only thing left to do is mock him.

What exactly am I wrong about ?

I’m not criticising any of the measures you mentioned - they are all very good and needed - I just posted that about the new hospital.

The only point I was raising was that 100% you are not mainstream - because if you were the country would be in an even bigger crisis than it is now.
As I said join the SILENT majority.....please.

I know. Do you want to tell him that the EXCEL may well have been open for 20 years. But not as a staffed and functioning hospital for 4000 patients, and created as such, in a matter of days. ?

I reckon we should we just give him time for some calm reflection.

Maybe a more appropriate shout out would be to the hundreds of thousands of public sector workers that are going above and beyond to make this stuff actually happen (and I’m not just talking about the health profession). Maybe some recognition that when times are tough we all need the vital work they do.

I criticise specific things. The direction of herd immunity without a vaccine, for example, was a mistake, since acknowledged by the government U-turn. I find there are a lot of people unable to see this and other basic facts for themselves, and it’s difficult having a reasoned debate if something as obvious as the sky being blue is questioned all the time. I watched Question Time last night, and the medical panelist was far more scathing of the government than I have been. He said the government had a whole month’s notice that testing kits need to be prepared and PPE kit distributed. He said the Germans are testing half a million people per week, and we haven’t tested a hundred thousand in total. Considering we came up with the test first, that’s a remarkable lot of ground lost. As for protective gear, it’s still not been distributed. He described it as a scandal.

That’s me quoting the editor of the Lancet. Not “sniping with boring predictability” or “exhibiting the usual far left Boris bashing claptrap”.
If you want to prove to everyone on here how even handed you are, why don't you give us a list of all the things that Boris did right?

The guaranteeing no evictions isn’t going so well. Shelter are reporting 20k in the pipeline: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/ ... -secretary Not blaming the government, but they’ll have to move on this.

The measures to shore up incomes is better than doing nothing, but I don’t think it’s enough. The order to end homelessness by this weekend is excellent. No longer is homelessness “an intractable and difficult problem we can’t end overnight” to paraphrase government ministers of the past. In other words, I’m glad the government is moving in the right direction with the economy, but I think they could be taking firmer action - just cover everybody, for example, rather than faffing over a system that will create winners and losers and be too complicated to run. And they should be more decisive - suspend all mortgage, rent, salaries for workers not working, etc, close down all but the most necessary of businesses that can’t operate from where people self isolate, and break the back of this sooner rather than later.

On the medical side, the government has made some big mistakes by not producing enough testing kits or PPE. So now it comes down to how quickly they can rectify this. Things like chronic underfunding and the initial move toward herd immunity can wait for the inquiry.

Ringo, you said

"They've built a hospital for 4000 patients out of thin air in a matter of days FFS is a minor miracle!!"

No, they haven't built anything and that's your error, one which I quite graciously pointed out.

If you'd have said initially, and not having to backtrack again, the govt have organised and "created a staffed and functioning hospital for 4000 patients in a matter of days" there'd have been no need to pull you up. But you didn't, you claimed something entirely different.
I think your excitement got the better of you....
Anyway, glad to see you're listening to advice, winding your neck in and staying on topic.
Keep it up, fella.

The majority may well share your view but if you actually read what I posted I never disputed that.
But they 100% do not act like you and as said that is something we all need to be grateful for.

As for your comments on Boris you really are beyond pathetic now - suggesting that myself or others on this thread have anything else but sympathy for him and his family is scraping the bottom of the barrel even for you.

You are no better yourself than those twisted trolls on Twitter with their sick posts on BJ and his family. Absolutely no better whatsoever.

I’m given a list of things above I think are positive steps, and I’ve suggested we look at how quickly the government turns around the shortage in equipment rather than focus on mistakes - that’s at least being positive. I don’t want to have things to complain about, but we can’t just sit here singing Kumbaya, if the government continues to not deliver.
