Post by HunterST_BFC » Sat Apr 18, 2020 8:30 pm

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0071360/

One of my fave' films of all time.
Record it for later. From 1974
It's one of those you have to listen to.

Director: Francis Ford Coppola
Writer: Francis Ford Coppola
Stars: Gene Hackman, John Cazale...

If you are into sound / sound recording / soundtracks etc it's one of best.

Agree,
+ i don't think John Cazale has ever been in a bad film? Died aged 42.
Hackman is a great actor in many films - but has done a few poor films.

Just read that John Cazale only appeared in 5 feature films, and each one was nominated for Best Picture.

V good film. Love this genre and era of film when done right, unfortunately there’s not enough of them.

Strongly recommend "Dog Day Afternoon"

1975 classic - Cazale , Pachino

Agree.

The film score was finally released in 2018. Got a copy on vinyl
Coppola's brother in law David Shire did the piano work because film budget ran too low for an orchestra on most of it.
Imho - Shire's contribution makes the film.

It's been used as an influence and reference point for many films since.

Any other good film recommendations of similar ilk?

If you like The Conversation and you haven’t already seen this, The Lives of Others is a superb film.

Cheers fella - yes superb!

I'll have a think for others....

Toby Jones in "Berberian Sound Studio" (2012) is worth a watch.
Totally different style

Currently watching Bound - surprisingly never seen this before. A bit of 90’s cheese but a decent plot and Ralph Cifaretto from The Sopranos.
