My last payment on the 23rd March states final payment which will be for this season. Maybe they're just setting up the new ones..

Not really sure how they can set up a Direct Debit for a new season when they might not be able to offer you a ticket as you are not allowed to attend.

Since they've postponed the collection of ST money that's paid up front, I'd be surprised if the club are intentionally taking direct debit money.

It’s done like that every year so the 20/21 payments will be a new instruction.

The article doesn't mention just how those clubs are dealing specifically with purchases by direct debit.

Just suspend payments for the next 3 months & then continue with payments in July? Not hard really. Also that would sort out payments that are owed back, could then automatically be deducted off the 3 missed payments which in turn would make everything even. Unless your planning on NOT renewing for next season? Then the club would have to do refunds for the 4 games missed from this season that are owed back.

At Nicola Sturgeon’s press conference apparently her CMO said they would be against games being played behind closed doors as it would encourage gatherings and as our government has always said they would follow medical advice UK government’s advice is likely to be same so it is looking more and more likely this season will have to be voided. I am personally not bothered about missing last few games after paying for ST and would not expect any recompense from the club. But we are due to start paying for 20/21 whenever that may start and I am sure the club could amend the direct debit to 9 payments from July as by then we should have a better idea of if and when the season will start.

It can't/won't encourage gatherings if the venues for the games are at neutral venues and their locations aren't made public.

If the games are televised it will quickly become obvious where they are being played

But will many people “gather outside” when all games are going to be shown live on TV. You’re going to have to be pretty hard faced to try and travel there. Police will spot any cars with more than one person in. There won’t be any buses. Similarly it won’t be easy to get there by train. Maybe just for once people will put other people’s well being above their own greed and stupidity. I suppose you can only hope.

But if they rotate the grounds which they use it will only become obvious which ground is being used when TV coverage of the game starts (ie ko time) and then it would be too late for fans to get to the ground.

Reports in Italy suggest fans will not be allowed back in Stadiums until Jan 21 at earliest with matches behind closed doors until then.

If that is the case in England I would like the club to heavily reduce the price of ST’s in 21/22 to make up for potential matches missed in 20/21

Some 'fans' can't even stay off the pitch when told not to go on, e.g. our promotion season when we still had the Reading game to play.

Expecting they have the nous to stay away from games might be a little naive.

If people are stupid enough to turn up make it clear beforehand that if you do turn up and get caught you’ll be issued with a life ban.

Either that or taser them.

I see what you are saying but reducing the months of payments increases the monthly payment. Not as much of an issue if only paying for one ticket but for a family that could be a significant increase

In the days of social media it's very difficult to imagine that the location of the ground won't be leaked in some way. Even if it's not, rumours spread like wildfire. If Liverpool's title winning game is being played at the City Ground in Nottingham and it's kept secret, but a rumour goes around that the game is at Villa Park, then 10,000 Liverpool fans descending on Birmingham is just as bad for COVID-19 risks as them turning up in Nottingham. In general the risk for most football matches is quite low, it's the season defining games where the worry is.

Even so, the main problem for football is the number of people needed at each game and the lack of social distancing for them, which means they would all need to be tested. We're talking between 200-300 people per game for games that are televised. Included in those figures are 4 paramedics and an ambulance driver that apparently are legally needed at all football games. For a full round of league fixtures, we're talking about 225 emergency services personnel needed at a time when they can be better used elsewhere. These are the very real challenges football faces.

Going back to the original subject of this thread, can Burnley as a business really afford to not take season ticket direct debits when their future is so uncertain? Burnley have made some fantastic moral decisions and continued to pay all staff, and keeping cashflow going is imperative to that. If you can't afford to pay for your season ticket as things are, then fine cancel the direct debit and inform the club why. If you can afford it though and want to do your best to support the club, then continue to pay and worry about games you don't get to see when we get to that point.

Sadly yes. As much as I enjoy going to games, if they are being played behind closed doors then I'll be at home, hopefully able to watch them.

I had options with my season ticket. I could have cancelled the direct debit and then paid for it when things were clearer. There would have been no rush to then pay for it by 31st March. I opted to keep the direct debit because one way or another it means I won't have to complete payment for it until March 2021 and that suits my budget.

I don't know what will happen at our club over the next few weeks/months but we've been told it is going to be a difficult one. Some staff are still working while others are not but the club continue to pay them their full salaries (for now) and will delay furlough as long as possible.

It's a tough time for a lot of people Tony, and of course people who can't afford to pay shouldn't do. I'd like to think that when all this is done the club would make sure people like that are seen right. I think what irks me with this is there's bound to be people who can't wait to cancel their season ticket even though they can afford to continue to do so, but would be on here during the transfer window whinging because we haven't spent £20m on an Elbonian striker they'd never heard of until the Daily Star linked us with him.

I presume the gatherings they talk about are at peoples houses to watch on the telly?

There's not a chance in hell English fans will gather outside empty stadiums in numbers. PSG ultras were outside the ground singing. Where as 90% of English fans don't sing and certainly don't belong to ultra's.

I agree with this tbf, it's a completely different culture in Europe with the Ultras. I just don't see it in this country, especially with the pubs closed.

If behind closed doors do the games have to be screened live?

I would be ok with the matches to be on TV after game has finished. This could be the compromise for the government to allow them to be played as it would probably prevent gatherings.

In the premier league, every game is broadcast live somewhere in the world which enables the streaming sites to show them all.

I think there will be a deal with sky etc.. to show 2 games every day. All through the week to maximise exposure.

The lower leagues will broadcast everything through IFollow which is quite poor in comparison. One camera and local radio commentary paired up with the pictures.

The players taking a 10% pay cut for a season would more than cover the costs of all season ticket revenue.

Seeing as our wage structure is heavily bonus rewarded, I reckon they will have more than 10% missing already.

You have to be a fan of Dilbert to understand Elbonia...

It represents the view that Americans (read UK for these purposes) have of any country that doesn't have cable television — we think they all wear fur hats and wallow around waist-deep in mud. The entire country wears the same clothing and hats, and all men have full beards. They are occasionally bitter towards their wealthier western neighbors, but are quite happy to trade with them. The whole country is covered in mud, and has limited technology.

Elbonia is located somewhere in the former Soviet bloc: It is an extremely poor, fourth-world country that has abandoned Communism.

I suppose I could have just said Blackburn, but that doesn't have the same exotic ring to it.

I'm not cancelling as who needs the hassle of having to reapply down the line. I guess fundamentally I just trust the club will be fair with us all in a common sense way.

Just spotted our D/D payments were taken last Friday -25th, this being the first payments for the 20/21 season. I'm fine with that as its two fold, helps the club to pay staff and guarantees our seats. I'm not sure though that we'll be able to sit in our seats for some considerable time. I feel for our club (and others) at the moment, at Burnley the Board have worked so hard to put us in such a strong and solvent position, (no doubt the envy of many clubs) especially with no debt, and then at a stroke this could so easily be taken away, I hope I'm wrong.

I'd be questioning your bank if it came out last Friday, that was the 24th. Being due out on the 25th, and that being Saturday, they should have come out today. Mine certainly has.

I'm OK with that because it is going to have to be paid at some time and cancelling that direct debit would then mean I'd have to pay out in full for it at a later date. It doesn't affect me financially, I have to admit, and so it is best for both me and the club to continue making the payment.

I doubt the direct debit came out last Friday.
Mine came out today - first working day after the due date which is how it works.
But if it did come out on Friday you would need to ring Burnley FC not your Bank (if it’s an issue for you)...as it would have meant Burnley FC claiming on your bank details on this date (rather than the Bank paying BFC on this date as it would be with a standing order).

Not so sure on that. The club will have claimed the money for the 25th, and that means no earlier than the 25th. No way should that have come out on Friday and I don't see how the club would have done it differently for some than others.

My bank app shows direct debits due to come out, and it showed the BFC one on Friday. Didn’t actually leave the bank until today though which I imagine is what’s happened above.

That’s what I was saying that it’s unlikely it came out on Friday as this would have effectively have meant the club sending a separate file to the bank requesting this which is doubtful given for the rest of us it’s going out today.
But if they did - what I was saying that it’s the club who have done this...not the Bank.
The Bank will only process direct debits based on the files sent to them by the DD originator - ie BFC.
Standing orders don’t work in this way as it’s the Bank who originate these payments so if our payments were set up as standing orders and it had gone out on Friday instead of today then you would ring your Bank to query it.

I know how direct debits work and I know how standing orders work. I also know how the club action it and therefore I know the club will not have requested any money prior to 25th. Beddie's money came out on 24th and that is not down to the club, I can assure you.

Jesus arguing over how direct debits work now! Im sure beddie meant it came out today, otherwise hed habe posted on friday.

Mine also came out today and fortunately i can afford it. I still expect some form of refund to be offered if we cant attend the matches though, assuming the season is completed behind closed doors, and the club dont get hit in the pocket from tv money

Sadly yes. As much as I enjoy going to games, if they are being played behind closed doors then I'll be at home, hopefully able to watch them.
We need some fixture notice to give me the opportunity to put my pie in the oven for 5 hours prior to kick off to replicate the molten centre, charcoal crusted ones we get in the CFS. :D
