Post by tiger76 » Sat May 02, 2020 3:52 pm

As The Full Monty was on last night,it got me thinking about other classic British movies,my top ten,in no particular order, are as follows.

1)The Full Monty
2)Bend It Like Beckham
3)Brassed Off
4)Billy Elliot
5)Sunshine On Leith
6)Gregory's girl
7)Whisky Galore
8)Local Hero
9)Whistle Down the Wind
10)The Railway Children

Anyone else want to offer their thoughts and suggestions.

Some people have a limited range in their film viewing - not seeing anything pre-war on there or too much from the 40's and 50's

this recent thread also had a related discussion to that of the OP

Secrets & Lies - Mike Leigh.
Love that film.

Recently watched Withnail & I, too. In the top 20 at least.

A British film which should be in everyone’s top 10 is Sexy Beast. It’s in my top 5 all time films. Some excellent performances in it but Ben Kingsley's role is something else. Absolute nutter!

Snatch would probably be in there for me although I would expect plenty to disagree.

Rear Window - British director but American set and cast. Guess that doesn’t qualify.

Not really no,if you were going to include a Hitchcock,"The Lady Vanishes",his last British picture would be a contender.
