Will You Be Downloading the App?

Post by Siddo » Tue May 05, 2020 12:12 pm

Most of the posts on Facebook and Twitter seem to be anti the coronavirus app due to its links to Cummings and Brexit activists.
Will you be downloading it?

The sinister bit is that the Government are calling it 'the NHS app' to build love for it.

It is a Government tracking app!!!!

As it stands no.

From what i've seen so far the science/maths suggests the app will be ineffective and I still have concern and uncertainty about what data Cummings and his mates can get hold of and what they are able to use it for

If I see strong enough evidence and safeguards to allay my concerns about those two points then my view could quickly change

Don't have a smartphone so no,i'm still unconvinced it'll be helpful, but i hope to be proved wrong,as if it works as planned,it could provide a path out of lockdown.

If there are successful apps already working on other countries why don't we just use them instead of spending time and money creating our own?

The theory behind it is good but the fact you have to stand next to someone for 3 minutes to ensure you receive an alert if they get the virus shows it will be pretty pointless.

you need to talk to Dominic Cummings about that - doesn't his brother have something to do with it?

I would certainly download it, I could care less if the Gov. know where I am, it's not an app you have to add for ever and other apps know a lot about me to. If it helps with your health then that's good enough for me as it stands with what I know today.

Yes I will. Can’t see it sharing anything private with “big brother “. My only concern is that it could give false alerts if it doesn’t work properly. Then you would have to get checked. If this happened lots of times, and hopefully stayed virus free, then I think you would begin to not bother getting yourself checked. Hopefully it works well and very few alarms are triggered for the vast vast majority of people.

It may well be a government tracking app but if they wished to track anyone they could do it easily without asking you to download an app. As far as I'm concerned, if it helps slow down and then prevent the spread of the virus then I'll use the app.

I will 100% be downloading it. Its one area of thsi where the majority of us can join in and help.

As for it's "Cummings' brother" and it's "a government tracking app".............seriously, who cares about either of those points so long as it does what it is aimed to do?

I wasnt going to download it, but now I know it’s Cummings himself who developed it for the sole purpose of knowing exactly where I am, I have much more faith in it having a real purpose, so I’m going to give it a shot.

We live in a world where people unthinkingly share information about themselves all the time on social media, have done for years and never had an issue.

Mention Cummings though and now they're showing concern about their information being harvested..

I'll download it if we get to that point, I can delete it later.

I'm going to download the app then I'm going to stand outside Dominic Cummings' house and connect to his bluetooth before next indicating to the app that I have the virus. Hopefully this will then result in him being locked down.

For those that are genuinely interested in the potential success of the govt app and putting aside the data privacy concerns then I have attached a scientific study modelling the different scenarios of measures we could take and how it impacts the R value. The study as far as I know is not yet peer reviewed

https://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101 ... 1.full.pdf

As well as this study one of the authors Dr Hannah Fry has also chaired an event today looking what the scientific community have learnt and understand about tracking epidemics. The free event was over subscribed but they have said they will look to share a replay of the event that I intend to have a look at

Yes, I'll down load the NHSX Covid-19 app.

I had an NHS app 4 years ago - to assist me in my heart attack recovery. It worked well for 2 years. Reminded me to take my meds, twice a day. Recorded how I was feeling, heart rate, exercise, dizzy?, breathless? - that sort of stuff. It was all, supposedly, monitored, my data assisting with heart disease with others. After a couple of years the app stopped working, it seems the NHS wasn't "bothering" anymore to maintain the software. It was a big help in my recovery. I'd like to think there are similar apps out there for others with heart disease - and other health challenges. Maybe if the NHSX covid-19 app works well, there will be further investment in other apps that can also assist with medical issues.

No chance, I am not letting people know where I am. Without this app on your phone nobody can find out where you are.

I even give a false address when I order something online so nobody can trace my whereabouts, bit of a pain when nothing ever turns up that I order but least they don't know where I am. Pass me the tin foil.

The problem with this app idea, is that it relies on individuals to notify through the app that they now have covid. How many attention seeking tw@ts will notify they have it when the haven't? This would trigger a notification to all those who could have come into contact with this individual, spreading panic, worry and potentially unnecessary lockdown for these individuals.
I do hope the law throw the book at individuals who do this by way of a hefty fine.

I understood that it was the NHS who notified others once a positive test came back

That would be more reassuring. An article I read indicated that the individual would make the notification through the app.

The little I read was the person presses the button to say they have symptoms, that goes to whoever is managing the app, who arranges a test. If positive, the NHS then sends out the alert.
One thing to note is at some stage you need to have been close to the infected person for around ten minutes for you to receive the alert.

This is the most confusing thing about all this. We're advised to cover up when shopping etc, for coming across people for a brief moment, and yet you have to have been in contact with someone for 10 minutes to recieve an alert.

Make your mind up, which is it ? ;)
