3rd player goes down with Covid. Is this deliberate? They certainly don’t want the season
re-starting.

I don't think it could possibly be deliberate but, to be honest, I'm getting sick to the back teeth of Paul Barber & Brighton.

It shouldn't make any difference if they've been self isolating, as they should have done.
What would they do if a player had a sprained knee, or if a player was suspended. We have squads for a reason, and I would say unless the whole squad had come down with it. Tough.

West Ham had a batch of players a few weeks ago with 'symptoms'.

Any coincidence that the clubs in favour of abandoning the league are those who seem to be getting new cases?

It was tongue in cheek but as Colburn writes in his reply it should be treated as an injury would. They are just an unavailable player.

How the bloody hell as a footballer got symptoms?

Gardens big enough to exercise in, enough money to buy all the food with a safe delivery service?
All the technology they need?

I dislike BHA with a passion you could only imagine. Don’t wish the virus on anyone obviously, but I’m not surprised it’s this club bleating.

I think I want Brighton down more than I want leeds to stay down... :o

Obviously they're not staying alert enough. Drop your guard for a second and the sneaky old covids will be on you in a flash, like Big Mick Keane at a corner.

Players like us can catch it a host of different ways.

Not directed at you Quick but there are strange post on this thread to be honest. Weird how people have different opinions based on what colour t shirts footballers wear.

The fact that players are catching it anyway without training and matches should be an arguement for restarting. The players will arguably be safer if regularly tested and in a more tightly monitored/controlled environment.

Of course they can but they have no excuses for doing so.

They are still being paid their full wage.
They have all the facilities we could only dream of.
Ample bedrooms if they need to sleep alone from family.

All they have to do is stay away from people and be ready for when needed for their job.

Any player that has failed this should be fined (including Burnley players).

What if the player’s wife works in an intensive care unit?

It’s ridiculous to suggest that footballers should be capable of totally avoiding the virus.

Ahh right so footballers aren't allowed in supermarkets. Their also not allowed outside their garden for exercise either. Their not allowed out to walk their dogs. Their not allowed out to drop of food for their at risk family members. All because they have money?

Not if they're putting themselves at risk.

They have allowed themselves to be tied to a very highly paid contract and become a valuable asset for their respective clubs.

If they said they didn't wish to be paid until they play again then that is a different matter.

Sorry, but you’re talking b0llocks.

How can you expect anybody to totally isolate themselves from the rest of their household? They can minimise contact, sanitise surfaces, wash hands regularly but none of these measures guarantee that the virus won’t spread.

Nurses who work on Covid wards and have either vunerable people at home or valuable.

Or the other household members could make alternative arrangements.

My wife is an acute nurse treating Covid positive patients. We continue to live our home life as normal and aren't worried to the extent that we haven't even discussed it, although if she got symptoms we would make changes. Of course she might contract the virus but be asymptomatic so we wouldn't know. As things stand I have no intention of making alternative arrangements and certainly wouldn't ask her to live elsewhere for months. What you are saying is ridiculous.

Sunday Times Sport:

What if a player tests positive?

Christian Purslow, the Aston Villa chief executive, said on Thursday that he would like to see a ‘Covid rule’ introduced, that would mean games are abandoned if a team’s best players were ruled out after testing positive.

The Premier League is expected to say that the measures they put in place will be strict enough and, as long as they are adhered to, that the virus should not spread throughout a squad. If one player tests positive, they will remain in self-isolation with their family for 14 days. Clubs may also be allowed to add to their 25-man squad to help cope with absences.

******************

This puts a new spin on drug testing. Teams that look like they are getting relegated will be testing frequently and aiming for a positive test. So, can we expect news of night clubs in Birmingham opening soon?

For info look at the guides for shielding, which I have had to adhere to since the middle of March. It has been difficult, but we have done the best we can. If we can do it, it’s only a lack of intelligence and application that can prevent others from also doing it.

Why should footballers be shielding?

In any case, you’re not guaranteeing that you won’t contract the virus, you’re just minimising the risk.

Ahhh the penny drops. Minimising the risk is exactly what we’ve been doing. I know nurses and other medical professionals who have effectively shielded to protect their families, and they have seen colleagues have family members suffer (and I know of one death) where they did not isolate themselves effectively.

Footballers don’t need to be shielding, but the guide for shielding is a really good place to start for mimimising the risk - if your high salary depended upon you following some rules for a relatively short space of time you’d do it wouldn’t you? I sure as hell know I would...

No need for the sarcasm.

A poster suggested that there is no excuse for a footballer to contract the virus and that they should be fined for doing so. I pointed out how ridiculous that was and gave reasons as to why.

You’ve gone off on a tangent about shielding, which of course would minimise the chance of a footballer contracting the virus but it wouldn’t eliminate the risk.

In any case, there is no reason why footballers, as a collective, should be shielding. Their salary is irrelevant.

A teams best players?
What would Villa etc do during a normal season when they have injuries to a number of players?
I've never heard of a club trying to get a game abandoned due to a player being injured...

Are they going to present a list prior to any games stating who their best players are?

They don't need to follow the shielding guidance - they just need to follow the social distancing guidance everyone is meant to be following. Why would medical professionals shield unless they meet the shielding criteria because they themselves are clinically vulnerable? Same applies to footballers and anyone else for that matter.

They don't need to follow the shielding guidance - they just need to follow the social distancing guidance everyone is meant to be following. Why would medical professionals shield unless they meet the shielding criteria because they themselves are clinically vulnerable? Same applies to footballers and anyone else for that matter.
Appears there are a few who have got confused been "shielding," "self-isolating" and "social distancing."

I can imagine a health care worker choosing to live apart from their family if they are working on the covid ward. This may be what the hotels opened up to NHS staff were offering.

But, if any health care worker was in the "shielding" group then they wouldn't be going to work.

The PL just need to work up a proposal or two and vote on them. Apparently the vote carries if 14 vote in favour. Once they’ve decided how to end it, they need to wait for the green light from the Govt, just as the Bundesliga did.

The endless speculation and the disingenuous interviews by the relegation-threatened clubs is wearisome.

That’s your choice, but all people have done is disagree with you.

You mean like Dwight who moved back to his parents house for lockdown, with the club's support, and now has to share a bedroom with his younger brother

That would be worthy of a debate for a separate post.....I just wouldn't be able to decide.

A **** club or a dirty one?

I second that motion, easy to implement too,6 down = top 6 in the Champ up.This might well lead to a rapid change in tune from the bleating bottom 6,like many others i'm growing tired of their constant excuses to not restart the season. And effectively attempting to hold the remaining 14 clubs to ransom,i see the vote that was due to happen tomorrow, has once again been delayed, this constant stalling is becoming tiresome.

Surely people like Paul Barber would never lie about players testing positive so they try and avoid relegation?

They wouldn't, would they?

So what if 1 player has symptoms? The chances of them being in the less than 1% that will die from this are very very slim. They are far more likely to die in a car crash. Get games restarted behind closed doors.
