Given the choice would you attend live events at your own risk
You would need a crystal ball to predict when things will be truly safe.so come the start of next season if the govermment. said you can attend football matches at your own risk'.would you attend ?

No not until there is some actual factual scientific evidence that it is safe to do so.

Its boring enough anyhow going on the Turf for most games so why anyone would want to risk their own health is a mystery
Should play the whole of next season behind close doors - football on TV is the future!!

Re: Given the choice would you attend live events at your own risk
Yesterday they suggested that 26% of those who have died in the UK from COVID-19 had diabetes as an underlying condition. That's exactly why I'm sat at home, only going out for walks, and have been since a week before lockdown.
I've done this to avoid risk as much as possible, I wouldn't start gambling now. It will all depend on what the situation is at the time but I would have to believe it safe.

Re: Given the choice would you attend live events at your own risk
Probably not.
I don' t have any underlying conditions, but I still think we need to be cautious for a little while longer yet.
If we can get the R rate down further, the virus will start to disappear, and I'm optimistic enough to hope that we'll be back at Turf Moor before the end of the year.

I probably would. I’m classed as young and healthy and I’m missing the Turf like mad.
Can’t see it happening for a while yet though.

Given the fact this will be the new norm for years to come, what else are you gonna do? Sit in your houses for the rest of your lives?

If they opened the pubs tomorrow I'd definetely go for a pint. But I'd class myself as relatively young and healthy, I appreciate not everyone is in the same boat.

I'd go on. Probably hold my breath getting through the concourse but once you're sat outside in the open air again I reckon you'll be right.
Not going to get the option until those Oxford boffins get their vaccine out anyway.

Considering how a substantial amount of people on here react to a poor performance, or defeat etc, I'm surprised it's not a huge relief to not have to suffer for a while.

Re: Given the choice would you attend live events at your own risk
No but only because I have type 1 diabetes and as Tony has said it seems to be a major underlying complication factor.
In my experience of both myself and a fellow type 1, if you get admitted to hospital then they do not know how to manage it properly and expect you to just park it at the door until you get discharged. I wouldn't fancy my chances of somebody managing my diabetes whilst I'm flat out cold, and would most likely die of high blood sugar before the virus killed me off. Makes you wonder if that's a contributory factor to all the diabetics who have died
The prospect of this scares me to death, moreso than the actual virus
My friend was in hospital for 4 days and didn't get a single insulin shot in that time!

No. This virus isn’t just about me. I’m (should) be okay with it. Others not so. Why the hell would anybody want to risk the lives of others over a game of football?

Theres a risk to everything in life, I don't do a lot of activities that I deem too risky but going to a game of football would be within my personal level of acceptable risk.

Re: Given the choice would you attend live events at your own risk
Despite healthy conditions I would go.
A few reasons why.
O.27% of our population had it at any one time during the peak. (You might argue more but they didn'thave it bad enough to seek medical attention.)
Spain have found 15 different strains of the Virus while testing, which indicates it can weaken while travelling.
I think most people must have been exposed to a little bit of it now.
Lots of football games were attended while it was amongst us and I haven't heard anyone say they got it while at a match

No, for the same reason I haven’t seen my dad or in-laws for 8 weeks.
I’m youngish, fit and healthy. But I could easily be an asymptomatic carrier. I could have the virus at some point and not even know. I wouldn’t want to risk passing it to other people who wouldn’t do well with the disease

No.
I have an underlying health condition that a report commissioned this week to say that around 50% of people with it who catch covid-19 will die within days. Take my gender and age into consideration and the odds worsen.
My consultant, bless her, told me that if I catch it to go straight to Accrington cemetery and cut out the hospital ! She was not being totally serious but I got the point.
So leaving the house petrifies me until the country is clear of it but Turf Moor will be the last place I will be whilst there is any chance of catching it.

Nope that wouldnt have been appropriate, this virus isn't a laughing matter

What if it takes years to get a vaccine? There has to be a balance between protecting those who need it and allowing people to get on with their lives.

As much as I would love to go on I think until we actually understand more about the Virus and have minimal risk options available it's a NO from me.
Edit
Next season was to be my debut as an over 65 concession

Re: Given the choice would you attend live events at your own risk
When it's safe for me to see my mum and one of my mates then I'll consider it safe enough to go to a live event.
Re: Given the choice would you attend live events at your own risk
I think if the government were saying it was safe to go, then the number of new infections would be lower than today
Bearing in mind at any one point over 99% the population DON'T have the virus today, then if it's better figures than that then yes I would go.

20,000 people went to the Spurs game on the 7th March. Whilst I doubt there has been any research, anecdotally is anyone aware of any attendee subsequently getting Covid or someone in their household.
Before the usual suspects get all antsy and blame the government for not testing everyone, it’s not a challenge it’s just a question

I don't read all the articles, but I know a big fuss was made about Liverpool playing a champions league game the following week, and that could have caused an outbreak
Has anyone who has sadly died been shown to have attended the game?

I'm not saying they haven't passed it on to strangers but I'd expect at least one of them to have been ill with this Covid.

Hats off to you, but given your strict requirements for attendance, I’d say you’ve already seen your last game of football at Turf Moor.

I’m aware of two people who were at the Spurs game who have since been tested positive for. COVID-19. I’m not suggesting for one minute they got it at that game. More likely they already had it which means they could have passed it on.Burnley Ace wrote: ↑Fri May 15, 2020 3:39 pm20,000 people went to the Spurs game on the 7th March. Certainly not. It's not just me, it's the other people I would be putting at risk.
TBH, I'm not changing from my earlier lockdown activities, I'm avoiding contact with other people unless absolutely necessary.
