How will the players celebrate goals then, a polite Japanese bow to each other?
Re: Players not shaking hands .. Coronovirus.
A gentle fist pump ( No sexual pun intended)
Re: Players not shaking hands .. Coronovirus.
I expect if Dele Alli gets the slightest of contacts he'll go down coughing.

No throw ins then?
Re: Players not shaking hands .. Coronovirus.
The logic behind this is quite simple if you engage your brain a little. The handshakes are to stop the kids who are mascots potentially passing any contagions onto the players - it really is as simple as that.

Its nothing to joke about.
Its is very serious situation.
Enjoy tomorrow’s game as I think it will be the last game we will be able to watch before they are played behind closed doors.
And no I am not scaremongering just being realistic.

I wonder if that happened whether they would screen all the matches live so supporters could still watch their team.. ? I doubt it..paulatky wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2020 8:04 pmIts nothing to joke about.

Re: Players not shaking hands .. Coronovirus.
If they do they’ll be on some new pay service. The premier league could stream all non televised games for a fee of around £30 a game which is roughly the cost of an average ticket. Then if that works well (makes more money) maybe they’ll carry it on for next season. All games behind closed doors to maximise tv viewers. That’s their dream and it could be reality.conyoviejo wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2020 8:11 pmI wonder if that happened whether they would screen all the matches live so supporters could still watch their team.. ? I think we’d be alright, possibly even The Championship but I think the rest would need to rely on the wireless.conyoviejo wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2020 8:11 pmI wonder if that happened whether they would screen all the matches live so supporters could still watch their team.. ? I doubt it..
Or stream it on their websites.
Re: Players not shaking hands .. Coronovirus.
I saw my doctor yesterday (I live in France) and all health professionals over here have been told not to shake hands with patients. most of you will know shaking hands is far more common on the Continent than in the UK. We spoke about this issue and she feels there's an overreaction but she has to follow instructions.
Re: Players not shaking hands .. Coronovirus.
If you want to conclude that from what I said then that’s fine. You obviously missed key information in what I said. The point is that the club can to a large extent control what the players do, but you can’t stop a child picking their nose for example. It is the potential for spreading a contagion that is the issue

2 TWO 2 old people have died In the WHOLE of the UK from Coronovirus. I'll be in the Oxford before the game and will gladly shake your hand.

Not really. It’s a new flu. You will get a runny nose + sore throat at worst.paulatky wrote: ↑Fri Mar 06, 2020 8:04 pmIts nothing to joke about.

Suspect the Spurs players will be rolling around on the floor coughing every time one of our players touch them.

They could always do the elbow tap. Though of course if anyone taps Dele Alli's elbow we'll have a delay waiting for him to stop screaming and holding his face.

Re: Players not shaking hands .. Coronovirus.
So the media control the Government and the World Health Organisation? Because last time I looked it's those bodies who are giving out all the advice.
I'm not scared of getting it because I'm sure I'd be fine but when I have a cousin with diabetes who is on dialysis and waiting for a kidney and pancreas transplant we have to be careful.
When you're fit and healthy it's great but if you are in ill health then it's a bit scary. Flu has a vaccine, this doesnt.

None of the currently active cases worldwide have died of it. This seems to be the upbeat statistical message at least one person is taking away.

I suppose any goal elebrations will have been well rehearsed already. Better not take the p**s out of Corona though or the FA will be wringing their hands with glee.
I reckon Michael Owen would have been a shoe in for a 3 match ban back in the day with his rub hands celebration.

Everyone and everything is jumping on the coronavirus frenzy. Given its do inayed the news for weeks companies and now football clubs are getting in On the action.
Would be better if they shook hands then used sanitiser to encourage others to wash their hands more...
No harm done but it seems everyone needs a policy on it

Fair play to Rovers then.. they've had half the stadium closed for past three years in readiness for this.

Re: Players not shaking hands .. Coronovirus.
40,000 people die daily worldwide due to Tuberculosis (WHO figures not mine). We have had 2 old folk die in the UK due to Coronavirus both had significant underlying health conditions. China now slowly getting back to business whilst the western world goes into mass hysteria. Buying up every toilet roll?? It’s the Health & Safety lot having a field day. No handshakes before the game yesterday but you watched the players at the end all hugging + handshakes with each other??!!CharlieinNewMexico wrote: ↑Sun Mar 08, 2020 8:10 amOr you could just admit that someone saying "you'll get a sore throat and runny nose at the worst" when hundreds have died is ******* stupid.

Either this issue isn't that serious in which case it just adds to a sense of confusion and fear among some or it is serious in which case the games shouldn't have been played. An empty and meaningless gesture.
The mass hysteria is another thing altogether

Re: Players not shaking hands .. Coronovirus.
The number of occasions players make contact with each other in game, particularly at set pieces, make this a totally futile exercise. It's also noticeable how many times players and officials actually pick up the ball during a game for various reasons, which could only increase the likelihood of spreading any infection.
Purely a symbolic gesture by the football authorities.

Your figure of 40,000 world wide is per week not dayGreeny wrote: ↑Sun Mar 08, 2020 9:14 am40,000 people die daily worldwide due to Tuberculosis (WHO figures not mine). Before covid-19 I very rarely posted on here for the very reasons you state.
Back in February and early March it got to me that the majority of people were saying “its nowt but a bit of flu the elderly get”
I felt a moral responsibility to try and educate people to the seriousness of the situation back at that time.
Delaying lockdown by at least 2 weeks has cost many, many lives
