Local cricket podcasts

Post by Hopey » Sun May 03, 2020 4:15 pm

With the sincere lack of cricket - two podcasts have appeared run by Lowerhouse and Burnley Cricket Clubs.

Shameless plug for ours - Housecast, which is available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts and Soundcloud.

Burnleys podcast ‘Velcro Badge’ has also just released its first episode.

Might be some easy listening to get through the lockdown.

Got to say that If they handed out trophies for podcasts then lowerhouse would walk the league.

Such a shame about the cricket, especially with this weather we're having. Think the 20/20s were due to start on Friday as well. Would have been a good money spinner for clubs looking at the weather forecast.

Heartbreaking, certainly for us that are properly into it and go week in week out.

Yeah I'm really missing not being able to go and have a pint on the Horsfield. Do you think they'll try and get some kind of 20/20 competition played in July/August?

Totally down to what the ECB say, then what the league think..

We need some sort of competitiveness though.

I’d be surprised if there is any cricket played this season.

There could be money to be made as huge beer gardens while social distancing is still in place though.

One of the lads at the Club I play for has been videoing virtual games with commentary and scorecard over Facebook using the age old cricket game Owzthat. We even managed to have an umpiring controversy when 3 consecutive appeals were turned down due to no balls.
Having had a 5 test series we have moved onto a virtual IPL competition including an auction of players.
Not just the same as the real thing but it keeps the lads interested, and together, having a beer and commenting whilst watching it.

I'd be interested if there could be a few derby specials, for example Ken Shapcott and One of the Lowerhouse hierarchy discussing derbies from the past?

Good idea, doubt we'd get him on Zoom though.

Coming this Friday we have 1983, 1984 and 1985 Lowerhouse pro Kirti Azad as guest.

Did you know he won the cricket World Cup with India and played for Lowerhouse the day later?

I'm not sure that cricket via media is helping me.

Been watching a recording of Ben Stokes batting with the chap with glasses at Headingley in the Ashes. Incredible.

Now I just want some form of live local cricket.

There's a lot of pressure on the ECB/government to find a solution to getting club cricket on. I fully expect it back by the 2nd week of July.

Watching footy in cricket season when cricket is banned is just wrong.

I agree, but the way the ECB are going with it, I can't see it happening before August.

We're 32 episodes in now, but some of you may find this weeks, with captain Ben Heap interesting.
