Re: Villa v Blades
Pretty bold call for the VAR to overrule tried and tested technology though. Especially as there was not absolute conclusive evidence that the ball crossed the line.
Edit - the image posted by Vegas is pretty conclusive though.

Re: Villa v Blades
Great start back, blatant penalty claim for Villa denied, and then an obvious goal not awarded for the Blades, thing's can only get better, or can they?.

Don't worry it will be fixed when the big boys play tonight

Sheff United will be looking to sue again if they miss out on Europe because of that!!

The crowd interaction is a bit behind as someone said.
How hard can it be for someone to press a button with "oo", "arr" or "hooray" or "clap"
on it in time ?

Presumably its automatic and the refs watch vibrates whenever the ball crosses the goal line.Jimmymaccer wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 7:17 pmJust out if interest whose responsibility is it...........does ref have to say “ Hawkeye.....check” like a plane taking off ....or us it just someone’s (previous) job.....?

TV spoke of VAR. Had forgotten VAR!
Yes - should have been var for sure. Poor officiating.

What’s more concerning is the blatant reliance on the technology. Goal line technology has been a decent addition but referees should surely be prepared to question the technology, if required.
This wasn’t something I’d have expected Oliver to have missed, pre technology.

Re: Villa v Blades
I disagree. Goal line technology was brought in because those decisions were so difficult to call with the naked eye. Oliver couldn’t give that goal considering his position on the pitch when there is technology in place that has been seemingly flawless up to now. Even the replays shown at half time weren’t conclusive due to the ball being in the keepers arms.DCWat wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 7:21 pmWhat’s more concerning is the blatant reliance on the technology. The VAR maybe should have intervened but there wasn’t much time to make the call, and overruling tried and tested technology based on inconclusive evidence would be a very big call.

I’m only watching because I haven’t seen football for so long. It’s very different to what I’m used too. But the game hasn’t been too bad tbh. If we were fans of either team, we’d be quite happy at both performances so far.

Oliver couldn't have seen that for sure from where he was.
Re: Villa v Blades
Goal line technologies huge success was the downfall for me. It has worked superbly since it started. Unless Oliver was directly inline with the ball and posts it’d be a huge call to give the goal.

Pre technology, I’d have expected a referee to spot that. It wasn’t exactly a fast moving ball ricocheting off a post.
If referees become too reliant upon technology (accepting your point that to date GLT has been reliable) glitches will cause issues again.
If this was a case of it not being switched on, that’s a joke itself.

Re: Villa v Blades
You are right regarding Oliver not seeing it and why goal line tech was brought in....however to suggest there is inconclusive evidence of a goal. It is the most blatant goal ever using the camera angles available to VAR. It’s an absolute joke that the goal cannot be awarded by VAR as they should be involved in every goal/no goal decision that the ref has missed. Embarrassing tbhRileybobs wrote: ↑Wed Jun 17, 2020 7:27 pmI disagree. Goal line technology was brought in because those decisions were so difficult to call with the naked eye. The goal line technology was self isolating at home.

Re: Villa v Blades
Tbh it is irrelevant who did or didn’t see it on the pitch. The VAR team know within 30 seconds that it’s a goal and a balls up...yet they do nothing because there is no flexibility in the rules of what they can and can’t judge on.
And yet again we have the outcome of a match affected by the nonsense

Re: Villa v Blades
That goal would have been given, before VAR took a hand. A lot of linos have stopped doing their jobs, it's been noticeable all season. Whether it's by request of the ref, or just an over reliance of the technology, who knows. But it's still the same teams that get bit on the arse.

I turned it off, I was worried it would be crap, and it was.
Just maybe they tried to add some excitement by making a balls of it all.

VAR could have decided that in ten seconds, if they had access to that picture.
And of course, they would have.
