Dyche pre match comments
Just been watching the build up on now tv on my phone.
Definitely having a dig at the chairman and the board. And clearly unhappy.
I love Dyche but he wants to get in the real world. Why would we spunk millions on players right now? Why would we commit to players like Hart and Lennon right now? Why would we commit to Hendrick who has had six months or more to commit to us?
The two keepers on the bench and only seven subs is also a dig.
These are unique times. And he should be leading from the front. Not creating division.
Frugality will put us in a strong place for the long term. And I’m a fan who wants us to invest and move forward as much as any.

What's happened is he's gone from someone who needs the money to retire on - to somebody who no longer gives a ****, and if he's sacked, he's happy.
So he's going to come out with more of it.
So he's going to come out with more of it.

Unprofessional from Dyche in my opinion. Making a statement by not including any of those out of contract next week and speaking so bluntly and, to my mind, disingenuously, about who is to blame for the situation - it's almost as if he hasn't spoken to the Chairman since last summer.

This season is basically over for us. We're probably saving best part of 150k a week on Hart, Lennon, Bardsley and Hendricks wages. Put it towards some new signings for next season. Is keeping Bardsley and Hendrick for a few extra games really that essential?

You do realise that, we will pay them in July as well - In football if a player finishes a contract in June - the player is also paid in July to help tide them over before a new deal - it is an old PFA agreement and is still meaningful outside the Premier League but not so much in it I would suggest

Does anyone know for certain, has Dyche refused to pick them or have they refused to play?
Charlton have a lad out if contract at the end of the month and he has refused to play.
If it's the players do they still get paid I wonder?

Dyche should resign on principle
And let the rest of us get on with it and not have to listen to the problems caused by having an aged squad that Garlick/Rigg are trying to redress

Of course we have no idea what the OOC players are asking for. There's always the possibility that their demands are the problem.

Re: Dyche pre match comments
Sean Dyche making a statement by selecting NONE of the players out of contract next week was unprofessional as were his comments about the contract situation. He tried to make it sound like he hasn't spoken to the Chairman since last year! Could he not have knocked on Mike Garlick's door or Zoom called him to ask how discussions were going or remind him to get moving on getting it sorted?
I hope that all he was doing was trying to force the board's hands on summer transfer dealings because otherwise he would be out the door anywhere except our football club!

shame on sean saying he wants to keep all of the ooc players ...he has aligned himself with the players at times to give the us v them position...with the hierarchy looking the bad boys ...keeping joe ...really !! a fantastic manager but his fault is glaringly obvious

If the OOC players are refusing to play, then surely they are in breach of contract and we do not have to pay them anything

If true it looks like they are trying for one last big contract, basically trying to take the p!ss. They will struggle to find another PL club to give them a deal. Well done to the board if they are determined not to be held to ransom.

Would be foolish to spend north of 100k a week on players that have been bit part this year never mind next and that’s without knowing what next year looks like.
Re: Dyche pre match comments
Agree completely, put the money towards wages for next season. If were in a relegation battle it would be a different story but this season is over for us, we're comfortable in mid table.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 12:27 amWould be foolish to spend north of 100k a week on players that have been bit part this year never mind next and that’s without knowing what next year looks like.

Re: Dyche pre match comments
Of the five OOC players, the only one who has been an integral part of the squad is Hendrick, and he's hardly irreplaceable - in fact we might already have got ourselves a better player in Brownhill.
My concern is that we clearly have a paper-thin squad, and with Garlick's cautious, bordering on parsimonious, attitude to transfer spending, I have no great confidence that we're going to go into next season with anything like a strong enough squad to survive. Worse still, Dyche is clearly unhappy and if, as I fear, he leaves at the end of the season, the rebuilding task for his replacement is considerable.

Re: Dyche pre match comments
I also heard from one of his post match interviews that this situation is having an effect on the rest of the squad about the way their "mates" are being treated
Re: Dyche pre match comments
Hendrick will have been offered an extension months ago. If he doesn't want to sign it's on him. And Bardsley turns 35 soon, I wouldn't say its essential we kept him either.

He even asked Hart if he wanted to be on the bench for the city match. He said no!
The manager should have been part of all the planning and agreed, or not, the outcomes.
He has been ignored and that hurts.
This could easily cost us our manager.
This is Garlick's Glen Little. Save £100k wages lose half the crowd.
1 min we are going for Europe and next we think we have enough to hang on. It is not always about the black and white finance. Some actions have adverse repercussions that multiply exponentially.
Re: Dyche pre match comments
With Garlick’s record of getting deals done, I’d say it was essential, if only to make the recruitment job a little easier, in the window.
So far we need to replace Gibson, Lennon, Hendrick, Bardsley and possibly Hart. That’s without looking to other improvements to the squad that we may have been wanting to make.
Our squad is paper thin and if we lose Dyche on top of all of this, we’re in serious trouble. The cost and time needed to resolve all of the upheaval a new manager and team would bring, would be huge.
I don’t think it’s strange that some people back Dyche in this situation. He’s more than proven that he’s well aware of the needs to balance the books alongside the longer term stability of the club. Look at his first PL season as a prime example.
I’m not sure that the evidence for Garlick is quite as strong.

Re: Dyche pre match comments
the pre match interview , he said he didnt deal with contracts and that ideally he'd like to keep all the players.
when it went to souness in the studio to comment on sean dyche, he said if he was in the situation those players were in, he would refuse to play too. He was convinced that dyche was taking pot shots at the board.
I would have assumed All issues relating to the business of the club would be dealt with behind the scenes and never aired publicly.
I havent a clue how these things work, and before souness spoke I didnt feel the situation was calamitous, or that sean dyche was implying there was some kind of rift between the players/himself and the club.

I understand the pressure would be greater than it is here but he might just like the opportunity to manage a team without his hands tied, he is obviously and has been for some time with the amount of times he mentions it fed up with it. We will well and truly be in the sh*t if he goes because I doubt we will get anybody decent who will put up with MG's frugal spending habits which a little bit of me understands. He has done a fantastic job here and we have a lot to be thankful for but we all know deep down he is not really wealthy enough to own a premier league football club.

If they go down i can see Villa being interested in Sean, his record at Championship level is outstanding, 2 full seasons, 2 promotions, 90+ points on each occasion, and Villa have far more resources than most Championship clubs, especially in light of covid, they'd waltz that league with Sean in charge.Swizzlestick wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 12:20 pmI get the Villa connection, but if they do go down, they’ll be expecting immediate promotion. Big fan of Dyches. But he should be showing unity.
he could still have sent a message out but still filled the bench. Was a great opportunity to let some young lads experience premier league football against a world class side. That opportunity has gone now.

Agree CFC.
We keep our cards close to our chest usually. Last night was having them slapped open for all to see. This to me looks like a ship is about to sail and we could be left with a tug boat next season.
There was also no need to mention you have reflected on your professional life during lockdown in the pre game interview the other day tbh.

Re: Dyche pre match comments
Good question i guess the argument could be made that Sean Dyche has achieved all he can at Burnley, and that might have some merit, he's turned us into a regular mid-table PL team, and he even got us into EL qualification 2 seasons ago, and we could well finish top 10 this season yet, realistically will we improve on that, unlikely without substantial outside investment, and i don't see that happening anytime soon.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Tue Jun 23, 2020 1:04 pmWould he want to drop a division though? Villa have had their problems in recent years, but they are a traditional big club, and with the right structure in place could well be contending for the top 6 in a few years. look at Wolves as evidence that a team can come up from the Championship, invest heavily and achieve success relatively quickly, that is the model Villa will be pursuing I've no doubt, yes it brings increased pressures, but it also brings big rewards if you get it right. and Sean has always been ambitious.
If he chooses to stay at Burnley he'll face a major rebuild this summer, and do we have the finances to fund that in the way he'd like, i have my doubts, and this could be the factor that leads him to consider his future, especially if a job the stature of Villa rears it's head.
Sean's stock has probably never been higher than it is now, if he waits a year, and he presides over a BFC relegation, which is by no means impossible, then he'll be down the queue of eligible managers chairman will be looking at.

Sean's stock was never higher than on the 8 March this year. After his petulance recently it has dropped significantly imo. However, as he may already know who is going to, that might not be important to him.

If he stays with us and we end up going down, I think, when you take into consideration everything he's achieved at the club, is much more acceptable than not taking a Villa side back up.
But it is what it is. I can only speak for myself, but if he decided to leave then sobeit. He's not bigger than the club or the fans, and we surely have a much larger appeal than 8 years ago. I'm sure plenty of managers with Premier League experience would love to come in and manage us. So what will be will be.

A "major rebuild next season" is mainly the result of a succession of poor transfer windows.
I suppose both Dyche and Garlick can be deemed culpable on that score.
