Eligible/ineligible youth players
Eligible/ineligible youth players
Like others I was surprised to see a few youth players on the bench on Monday who I didn't recognise whereas others who've seemed closer to the first team weren't in the squad.
I know that various ones aren't able to play as they've been out on loan and I guess a few are injured.
Does anyone on here know which youth team players can/can't be considered for the matchday squad?

Re: Eligible/ineligible youth players
There was only one youth team player on the bench and that was Max Thompson.
As for others, there is a maximum number of players who are eligible for the COVID-19 testing and unfortunately a good number of those, through injury or contractual issues, were unavailable.
Dyche has suggested that the only player eligible who could come in is Mace Goodridge.

They never confirmed dates on Koiki’s contract but he could be one whose deal is at an end.

It's strange that Koiki wouldn't want to sign a short term deal at the very least and potentially get some Premier League experience under his belt.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 1:26 pmThey never confirmed dates on Koiki’s contract but he could be one whose deal is at an end.

I don't know whether that is the situation and if it is whether we've even offered him one.Jakubs Tash wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 2:13 pmIt's strange that Koiki wouldn't want to sign a short term deal at the very least and potentially get some Premier League experience under his belt.

Re: Eligible/ineligible youth players
must not fancy some off the young uns or they would have offered them contracts so at least we might have filled our bench utc
Re: Eligible/ineligible youth players
I wasn't aware of the limits on testing but I guess that makes sense.
When I said youth I was including the U23s in that which may not have been clear. A little surprised not to see players like Goodridfe, Koiki, Benson, Mumbongo, etc who looked to have been around the first team.

What about Lewis Richardson?
He was on the bench in the cup so I assumed he was as likely as any of them, if not moreso, to be getting a bench place in the circumstances?

Benson is easily cleared up, he's not permitted to play because of his loan at Grimsby.aggi wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 2:40 pmI wasn't aware of the limits on testing but I guess that makes sense.

Dyche said Goodridge was the only one close at Man City so I'm assuming it's a slight injury. I suspect Koiki could be in the Hendrick, Lennon, Hart situation (although I don't know). Mumbongo was having injury problems too prior to lockdown.
I wasn't aware of the testing limits either but Dyche confirmed it post-match at the Etihad.

Re: Eligible/ineligible youth players
A real shame that circumstances have conspired against these youngsters getting a brief opportunity in the first team.
Re: Eligible/ineligible youth players
I would have thought Conn-Clarke would have been ahead of Thompson/Jensen and being a winger maybe would get more opportunity. But admittedly I don't follow the Youth/U23's as closely as some.

Re: Eligible/ineligible youth players
Thompson is clearly in because of the known shortage of strikers with both Wood & Barnes injured. At the time we submitted the names for testing there was every reason to believe that JBG, Brady, Hendrick & Lennon would be available. I suspect Jensen is there because they knew Hart was going with not even a short term offer on the table.
Re: Eligible/ineligible youth players
Do you know if further players can be added to the testing now that these players are known to be departing? I'd guess there'd be a lag of a couple of weeks before they could become available though.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 3:41 pmThompson is clearly in because of the known shortage of strikers with both Wood & Barnes injured. Re: Eligible/ineligible youth players
I don’t.
Koiki by the way is unavailable because he hasn’t signed a new contract.

Re: Eligible/ineligible youth players
I thought I'd read somewhere that Goodridge was likely to be fit to be added to the squad tomorrow.
He's someone I've heard good things about- itd be great if our current shortage of numbers resulted in one of the young lads getting a chance to solve part of our numbers challenges before next season.

Re: Eligible/ineligible youth players
Presumably with 4 first team departures, that'll give us 4 more Covid testing spots available to the younger players? Does anyone know if one test is sufficient or does it have to be 2 or 3 before being passed as Covid free?
Hopefully no repeat of the Man C bench situation again after the next couple of matches & it'll give a good experience for the youngsters.
