Is that a good thing that Burnley are bottom of this table?

It sort of highlights the sort of deals we do but at least there is a lot less money going out than there is from elsewherePaul Waine wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 6:25 pmIs that a good thing that Burnley are bottom of this table?

A few of the other clubs have paid more on agents than Burnley have paid in record transfer fees.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 6:27 pmIt sort of highlights the sort of deals we do but at least there is a lot less money going out than there is from elsewhere

It’s a scandal in itself that over £263 million has effectively gone out of the game, especially when we clubs such as Bury disappearing.
I can well see the reason that a player might need an agent. What I can’t see, nor understand, is why their fees are not paid for entirely by the player that has recruited them.

Bournemouth shelled out £9.5 million.
More than Newcastle or Wolves.

Shocking. £90m our the game from the top 3 clubs. Agents are the leeches of the modern game.
In some ways glad we succumb least, in others it highlights the very problem we face being competitive in this league.

These fees are for agents employed by the clubs to facilitate deals.DCWat wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 6:31 pmIt’s a scandal in itself that over £263 million has effectively gone out of the game, especially when we clubs such as Bury disappearing.

So we have agents that wangle deals for players AND agents that sort the deals for clubs!? I must admit, I’d always assumed they were all one and the same.
So how do this lot work then and is that a hindrance to us in the transfer market?

They might be one and the same but they can work for opposite sides.

According to the detailed breakdown we paid agents to renew the contacts of youth team players who’ll probably ultimately do well do have a career at the top end of non-league.
No doubt the fees were small, but still...

New regulations coming in on Agents fees and activities from FIFA this Autumn
pure speculation - It may be that our reluctance to pay substantial agents fees is part of the block of signing players that we may want but do not get, possibly more so those in European markets

Re: Agents Fees - Feb 2019 to Jan 2020
not trying to be funny here at all - but surely given our lack of signings (not a criticism) we were always going to be bottom of this table ?

This and the tuoe of player we recruit.Vegas Claret wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 6:54 pmnot trying to be funny here at all - but surely given our lack of signings (not a criticism) we were always going to be bottom of this table ?
If the player is ageing and/or doesnt have many options there's no bidding war, so I'd say the fees the agents can charge would be vastly reduced.

Agree entirely. So proud we are bottom of that league. It's a disgrace.DCWat wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 6:31 pmIt’s a scandal in itself that over £263 million has effectively gone out of the game, especially when we clubs such as Bury disappearing.

Re: Agents Fees - Feb 2019 to Jan 2020
A lot of these fees are incurred in signing new contracts rather than new players. Look how much Liverpool spent in a period where they didn't sign many players.
In most instances the agent is "representing" both the club and the player. It was realised that when the agents were only being paid by the player this was just being added on to the fees anyway and that wasn't the most tax efficient way of doing it. Having the agent also represent the club can minimise the tax payable.
You can see all the details (without values) here http://www.thefa.com/-/media/files/thef ... 19-20.ashx
These are the Burnley ones (you'll probably need to open the image in a new tab)
(I've just noticed that I went to school with Josh Brownhill's agent)

They can dress it up how they want, they are parasites and leeches. Many a career has been ruined by agents encouraging moves just to garner a fee.

Then there are managers who take a cut from every deal. Outrageous to me.
I’d bring all fees down tomorrow. All transfer fees to be paid in full at month end.

What the figures don't show, and one of the reasons why you ( or anyone ) would want to own a club, is how much cash the agents paid to the owners / directors for allowing the deals to proceed.

If you think the PL numbers are mind-numbing,check out the Championship figures they're mentalhttps://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/53171064 is it any wonder clubs are struggling to balance the books, with all these outgoings.
Re: Agents Fees - Feb 2019 to Jan 2020
We'll be seeing a lot of owners and directors in court soon if that's the case.Nonayforever wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 10:12 pmWhat the figures don't show, and one of the reasons why you ( or anyone ) would want to own a club, is how much cash the agents paid to the owners / directors for allowing the deals to proceed.

What I find difficult to understand is that Chelsea paid 26m when there was a transfer embargo against them!
