Too busy "mopping up" after your - what did you call it again, ah yes - "money shot" ?
Oh dear, oh dear.

You certainly do have lots of fish to spare. All your posts stink of the stuff.RingoMcCartney wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 5:45 pmI guess my mopping up operation on the other thread has riled the gaggle up.
It was always going to happen !
However, if the price of being able to highlight Starmers hypocrisy is a few sardines thrown out the back of the trawler, I'm more than able the afford it!
Enjoy !!
Now;
Can Sir Keir Starmer sack people from their jobs as MPs?
Yes or No?

Apparently not.
Does it stop him from being a hypocrite?
11 January: “I never turn on my staff and you should never turn on your staff.”
24 May: “If I were Prime Minister, I’d have sacked Cummings.”
No.......

He doesn't have the power to sack MPs. Cummings is an advisor therefore Johnson does have the power to sack him.RingoMcCartney wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 7:20 pmApparently not.

It's like me saying I think my headteacher should sack a teacher for poor performance. And then being called a hypocrite for not sacking the science technician for poor performance. I wouldn't have that power.

You are surely missing some context to what Starmer said about not turning on his staff.RingoMcCartney wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 7:44 pmBut that would be "turning on his staff and you should never turn on your staff.” ......
I highly doubt he'd have said there are no circumstances in which you should sack your staff. He was a DPP after all.

Didnt stop him saying : “I never turn on my staff and you should never turn on your staff.” on 11 January.
Then saying “If I were Prime Minister, I’d have sacked Cummings.” on the 24th of May.

No need to squabble with Ringo anymore. He knows as much as anyone how Starmer is going to go on destroying BoJo. Painful to watch at times, a mumbling after dinner speaker up against a barrister at the top of his game.
It’s getting to the point where we need Johnson to stay in place as much as the Tories needed Corbyn.

Johnson won’t be around when it comes to the next election. He’ll have been replaced by then.

The Tories, (historically) have no loyalty towards their leaders. They're only interested in getting into / staying in power.
Johnson has served his purpose now. By whatever means, he got them a big majority, and so he has served his purpose. If things continue as they are, I can see there being various machinations to get him out by the end of this crisis.
The big problem they have though is that there are no obvious candidates for the job, so that may save him in the short term.

Why would anybody in the Tories want to take the reins now, there's bound to be recriminations from the covid inquiry, and there's also the small matter of the brexit fiasco to deal with.nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 9:04 pmThat's a very interesting point.

I tend to agree that Johnson won't be the Conservative leader come the next election, he got lucky in having Corbyn as his opponent last time, Starmer's proving a much sterner test.
Re: Keir Starmer the future
Not turning on one’s staff - like Patel’s staff said she did, bullying them all mercilessly.RingoMcCartney wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 8:11 pmMaybe I am , maybe I'm not.

Sacking staff for gross misconduct - like Johnson should have done with Cummings.
That is the difference.
Re: Keir Starmer the future
I wouldn't be surprised if Johnson is gone as early as January tbh. Too much hard work for him, and he can claim "he's got Brexit done", and use his health issues as a convenient excuse.

The fact that Conservative Home feels the need to write such an article is eye- opening itself, especially this early on and during a time of national crisis where the incumbent leader should be Teflon.Spijed wrote: ↑Sat Jun 06, 2020 9:16 pmArticle from, Conservative Home:

Re: Keir Starmer the future
Good it shows Starmer can act and be decisive if required, it'll cause ructions among the hard left though, get the popcorn ready.
At least KS has the balls to sack his frontbenchers, i note Jenrick is still in a job this morning, despite all the clamour for him to go.
Maybe KS does have what it takes to be PM material after all, he's certainly a vast improvement on Corbyn, and that's a start, this shows that no matter how high up in the Labour party you happen to be, antisemitism won't be tolerated, this is the kind of leadership we need from our politicians.

Suspect he has been waiting for the opportunity. It will shatter unity, but make Labour more electable.

Re: Keir Starmer the future
You'd think so on paper, but Labour has a habit of shooting themselves in the foot, he's clearly stamping his authority on the party, which for a new leader is no bad thing, and with the current government hardly inspiring confidence, i'd make Labour slight favourites to form the next government, whether that's a majority government is another question entirely, but i'll stick my neck out and predict they'll emerge as the largest party in 2024, and they'll probably form some type of coalition.summitclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 3:55 pmSuspect he has been waiting for the opportunity. This is a good way of killing two birds with one stone. He can show strong leadership on anti-Semitism and axe a member of his shadow cabinet he probably never wanted anyway.

Good news. I see that she’s attempting to defend her tweets in true corbynistic tradition but she’s history and I doubt whether she’ll be given anther shadow cabinet job in the future.

Re: Keir Starmer the future
I don't think they'll be the largest party, but they will close the gap and be within shouting distance for the next time. Labour were fortunate not to have been wiped out in December 2019. Many Labour MPs limped home with wafer thin majorities. Mind you, saying all that, these are strange times. Just look at PASOK in Greece. For decades they were the largest party, nowadays they struggle to get into double figures.
Re: Keir Starmer the future
I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out she's back in a few years. After all, our current cabinet is the perfect illustration that being sacked in disgrace won't harm your career in the slightest.

Personally glad he's done what he's done.
The hard Left made the party a joke under Corbyn and Co.
There's a few more of their teeth to be pulled yet, some of them moaning right now.
He's going in the right direction.
The country desperately needs a reasonable, functioning opposition to challenge the piece of work we have 'running' things at the moment,

Good. He said he'd lot let antisemitism fester in the party any longer and, for once, a politician's actions match their words entirely.
As for Rebecca Long-Bailey, she is a useless and utterly naive MP. Labour are much the better for her being out of the shadow cabinet.

Respect to Keir Starmer.
Unsurprising to see RL-B trying to mount a Corbyn style weasel-word defence.
Labour now have a leader who will make a decision and take action. Whatever next? Integrity from Boris?
