Andre Gray
Watford’s fourth substitute was a fellow by the name of Andre Gray. Admittedly he was only on for ten minutes but did anyone see him do anything at all?

No, but not really his fault. They didn't play to his potential strengths, and only threatened from set-pieces.

He didn't do anything because he didn't want to upset Sean. He's hoping to be back here next season.dermotdermot wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 10:54 pmWatford’s fourth substitute was a fellow by the name of Andre Gray. Admittedly he was only on for ten minutes but did anyone see him do anything at all?

I’m not so sure about that. They had a couple of late corners and a free kick during the time he was on. Could quite easily have snatched an equaliser.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jun 25, 2020 10:56 pmGame had gone for them by then, we were in total control.

Deeney, maybe, but would you expect Gray to get in the team ahead of Wood, Rodriguez, Vydra and Barnes, and then Deeney?

Re: Andre Gray
Gray was pretty useful if whoever's defence was pushed up a bit. With us defending deep he was hardly likely to be effective.

Deeney has had his day and Wood and Barnes do what he's good at anyway, but in a Burnley team.
Gray is just Vydra, but without the skill of our Czech mate.
Re: Andre Gray
Emphatic no to Andre Gray.
Normally I'd give a yes to Deeney but I think we're fine up front when the injuries subside. The time to get Deeney was back in summer 2014 when we couldn't agree a deal.

Re: Andre Gray
Gray was very good for us. Bur now and again he did have the magic ball from Defour to run onto.
Re: Andre Gray
A Deeney Gibson exchange would be good but leaves us lacking in CB cover.
I like Deeney, seems to have overcome previous life issues. He will be a Barnes on steroids and growth hormones.
Unlikely but would be a good signing and would be great in a Dyche side.

Re: Andre Gray
Denney would be a great signing. His ability to knock on the ball is far better than the other strikers we have. His header to Welbeck was class in the first half.
Much like Barnes too, he knows how to win a free kick.
Much better to have him than Crouch!
As for Gray I think Vydra is the better player. He might not be as fast but he's a lot more clever with his runs. He has a first touch too.

Re: Andre Gray
Think Gray is a better finisher. I remember when we were in the Championship someone describing him as a gunslinger. I think that was a good description, he was so clinical.superdimitri wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 5:41 amDenney would be a great signing. Second thoughts, being clinical makes him more like a surgeon I suppose, though the image isn’t quite right.
Re: Andre Gray
No to both. Two years ago, Deeney maybe.
I was impressed today by J Rod and Vids. J. Rod especially, is just a step above the other three in terms of skill. Wood does score, but not sure he would score more than J Rod. Impressed with Vids and his running and strength, thought he was a bit lightweight, but he can hang in there.
So seems it to me we have 4 strikers we can mix and match and change things if the game dictates. No need for replacements. Deeney might be an upgrade on Barnes - maybe - but he just signed a new deal - so forget it.

That’s exactly who I was thinking of. One for the older generation!
Re: Andre Gray
Wood is by a mile our best finisher at the club. If he could keep himself fit for a full season we would get 12-15 goals in our side every year

Re: Andre Gray
Dyche has wanted Deeney a long time - we bid for him a time ago (in fact, it may have been after Dyche's first promotion in 2014, unsure).
He will be 32 shortly but I could see him doing well in a Sean Dyche Burnley side - the problem is, we don't need him (unless Barnes injury is severely worrying). We have a really good mix of strikers at the club, they all offer something different.

Re: Andre Gray
No to both strikers.
Deeney's strike rate isn't any better than our current lot and whilst he has other attributes that are admirable, it's not really worth signing him and dropping one of the other lads.

Could see us going in for Deeney again if he becomes available.
Dyche is clearly a big fan and he would be a different kind of striker to the main four we already have.

Re: Andre Gray
The more I see of Vydra the more I like him.
He's growing in confidence with a run in the side and he gives us another dimension when the ball's played on the floor.

Deeney is no better than our other strikers. Would I swap him for Gibson 100%.
Re: Andre Gray
Remember, we are likely to have to sell to balance the books. And of all the key players we have and as good as Wood is, he may be most expendable.

Re: Andre Gray
I agree that we currently have a great mix of strikers and JayRod has proved a fantastic signing...a class act. Vydra looking like he might be good enough at this level after all has been a great bonus. As for Deeney ..no thanks. Take a look at the Watford forum and you will find an overwhelming view that he is now past it and offers very little apart from good media coverage.Would have been great three or four years ago but not now. And definitely not Andre either.jedi_master wrote: ↑Fri Jun 26, 2020 8:15 amDyche has wanted Deeney a long time - we bid for him a time ago (in fact, it may have been after Dyche's first promotion in 2014, unsure).

Re: Andre Gray
Strikers of any kind should not be our priority.
Love the four we have and the different qualities they bring. JRod could’ve had a hatrick last night but for the offside and a good goal one clearance. Looked dangerous, as did Vydra.
Need a right winger that can whip a cross in like Dwight and ideally more CM cover. Would 100% swap Gibson for Dawson.

Re: Andre Gray
Definitely, especially as he scores a lot too, something that we have generally missed from Mee and Tarkowski despite their many other attributes.
Dawson has an impressive 38 goals in just under 320 appearances, Tarks 13 in 260, and Mee just 6 in 312.
I thought he was Watford's biggest threat last night.
Re: Andre Gray
On the wages he is on, Gray will still be at Watford till the end of his contract
Nobody else will pay anywhere near his current deal
Deeney will be on good wages too but as others have said a striker is nowhere near the top of our priority list
I think Dawson turned us down some years ago which was why we did not go in for him last summer plus Watford will not let their best defender go

Re: Andre Gray
On the basis that we are talking in the context of him being part of the deal for Gibson they might.
I doubt they can sign Gibson and retain all their CBs.
