Step up from Burnley (albeit a small one) so fair play to him if its true. Not sure he'll get the amount of starts up there but thats what comes with going to a bigger club

Would explain why he was able to turn down a renewal.

Re: Hendrick Offered Contract By Newcastle
Yes it makes sense he had to have an offer on the table to rebuff our renewal, if he does join them it'll be intriguing what kind of reception he gets on his return to TM, if of course fans are even allowed into the stadiums by next season.
I'd say it's a step up, but not a giant leap by any criteria. Now of course if the takeover goes ahead, and they have funds to splash around, then it'll possibly be an improvement, but in that scenario, he might find himself down the pecking order, depends how their transfer dealings proceed this summer, i can see why Bruce would be interested in someone of Hendrick's type though, and his PL experience could prove invaluable to a relatively youthful squad.
I'd wager he'll get a decent signing on fee as well, even if his wages aren't hugely higher, and at his age that's important.

I'm sure Chester Perry can update us all - he might even say all the info has already been posted on Magic Money Tree thread.Quickenthetempo wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 12:46 pmNewcastle are a far bigger club than us.

Last I heard was that there's a second offer waiting for the Saudi deal to fail approval.
As for Jeff, I assume he knew that he'd get a bigger/longer contract offer from Newcastle than from Burnley way back early this season. If he's now got a contract to sign he's going to be OK whoever the owner of the club will be. Good luck to him.

I live just outside Newcastle and (usually) work a couple of hundred yards from St James Park. The second deal is from some yanks I believe. Rumour is that the Saudi deal is still on the table but Ashley is getting narked at the time being taken by the PL to ratify it.Paul Waine wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 12:52 pmI'm sure Chester Perry can update us all - he might even say all the info has already been posted on Magic Money Tree thread.

I can with as much certainty as I can muster tell you what sort of reception he will get.tiger76 wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 12:47 pmYes it makes sense he had to have an offer on the table to rebuff our renewal, if he does join them it'll be intriguing what kind of reception he gets on his return to TM, if of course fans are even allowed into the stadiums by next season.

The word I would use is “predictable”.
You KNOW what it’s going to be don’t you?
Re: Hendrick Offered Contract By Newcastle
Was thinking of Newcastle as being a likely destination. Question whether he will be a first choice or come a bit part player/when the takeover goes through and they can afford better?
Re: Hendrick Offered Contract By Newcastle
St James Park capacity 52,405
Turf Moor capacity 22,546
Newcastle Poulation 268,000
Burnley Population 88,000
Mike Ashley net worth £3 billion
Mike Garlick £50 million
But apart from that what makes Newcastle a bigger club...........

How did they let his contract run down? He had a contract offer on the table for 12 months but wouldn't sign it, so not a lot that Burnley could do!

Even if the Saudi deal falls through because the PL refuse to allow it, Ashley still pockets £17 million, a nonrefundable deposit paid upfront by the Arabs.ClaretDiver wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 1:00 pmRumour is that the Saudi deal is still on the table but Ashley is getting narked at the time being taken by the PL to ratify it.
No doubt some compensation for his narkiness.

Good point.
If either takeover bid comes to fruition and the new owners start sticking City/Chelsea, etc. levels of investment in, he'll be lucky to be a ball boy.

Re: Hendrick Offered Contract By Newcastle
I can't see Newcastle offering contracts to anyone whilst this take over is in the air.
If they have half the money they claim, you'd imagine they'd be looking higher than Jeff.
I still think Celtic makes more sense.

Talking in general. Never said anything whether Newcastle were a bigger club or notDevils_Advocate wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 1:41 pmWhat like 4 league titles (Rank 8th), 6 FA Cups (Rank 7th) and a major European trophy win to boot?
It also, in my opinion depends when the titles were won
If a club wins 5 FA cups in 1920s does that make them a big club now?

Re: Hendrick Offered Contract By Newcastle
Newcastle are clearly a bigger club than Burnley, even accounting for recent history their achievements far outstrip ours, plus the fact that they've never dropped below the 2nd tier in their entire history, they've played all but 3 seasons in the PL since it's creation, and they've played in both the CL and UEFA Cup,or whatever is was called fairly recently to boot, plus they've enjoyed 2 runner's up placings in the PL, and they've competed in FA Cup finals, so to compare us with Newcastle is ludicrous in the extreme, doesn't mean to say that we won't finish above them this season, but clearly they're still a bigger club, hence the reported interest from various sources, i don't see a queue of investors lining up to take up the reins at BFC.

I suspect the Premier League have a problem with this one. There is probably no reason within their rules for blocking it but there are moral reasons along with the situation regarding the Saudis allegedly showing Premier League games illegally.ClaretDiver wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 1:00 pmI live just outside Newcastle and (usually) work a couple of hundred yards from St James Park. I still think Italy would be his best bet if i was him as that game would be more suited to the way he plays and may make him a better player

What is history? Define that? Because we may well have more erm “history” than newcastle. But our “history” as in titles/trophies is over 60 years ago.
It’s okay using history if a club has won countless titles and still competes today a la Liverpool. But saying a club is bigger because of having a history like Burnley (3 Major Titles is it?) is daft. You could say Man City 2018/19 history is bigger that a 100 years of Burnley.

Saudi deal is a massive headache for the FA. Allow it and they take a kicking from the human rights and tv rights people. Refuse it and it causes problems for the government as the Saudis won’t be happy.
Catch 22.

Ok. Thought that I'd read that that was the situation with his contract.

Newcastle are a massive club. It's not just the population, given above, they have virtually everybody from there to the Scottish border and split the Co. Durham support with Sunderland. A successful Geordie side could easily sell out an 80k stadium.

So Jeff departs for Newcastle, who are in the process of being taken over by either a Saudi, or an American consortium .....
New owners arrive, scarves held aloft by them ..... thanks for your services Mr Bruce, big-name signing of Italian/Spanish/German manager with transfer kitty of £300m, several new signings come in, Jeff told that he's " not part of their plans ", last seen training with the Reserves & Youth team, muttering " Feckin' Shoite " to himself continuously ....

There is no allegedly about it, it is just a question of whether the Government aided and abetted..at the very best they turned a blind eye to it.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 1:54 pmI suspect the Premier League have a problem with this one. What is history? To me it's looking at the full history of the club, what has been won, when has it been won. Notts County were once a big club but not now. Ipswich have a European trophy but not a big club. Wimbledon have won a major trophy more recently than us. So you need to look at the whole picture, in my oponion.
Re: Hendrick Offered Contract By Newcastle
If they offered him a contract 12 months ago and he didn't sign it and we 12 months later let him walk away for FREE, I'd say Burnley FC let the contract run down, and what we could of done instead of nothing is sell him in January for a few million instead letting him walk free.

I don't disagree with your logic, however who was interested in January?, and more importantly would Jeff have agreed to the move, you can only move players on if they want to go, and if Jeff was happy to sit out his contract, and wait to become a free agent; i don't see what BFC could have done about that.ClaretMov wrote: ↑Sat Jun 27, 2020 2:29 pmIf they offered him a contract 12 months ago and he didn't sign it and we 12 months later let him walk away for FREE, I'd say Burnley FC let the contract run down, and what we could of done instead of nothing is sell him in January for a few million instead letting him walk free.
