Vince Clarke turns 60 today
Erasure are my favourite band, so on Vince’s 60th Birthday... here’s a gem from the master of synth pop, taken from The Innocents - a truly magnificent album.

Also, if anybody is into more techno-y stuff, he made a great record with Martin Gore of Depeche Mode under the name VCMG. Highly recommended.

Re: Vince Clarke turns 60 today
I remember my mum being pleased with herself when she bought me an Erasure live VHS when I was around 11-12. Less so when we put it on and she saw the campest performance from Andy Bell who was prancing around in a skimpy leotard. I think it was a case of her perception of the music not quite matching the reality of the band - and times were different then.

Re: Vince Clarke turns 60 today
I didn't mind Erasure, sure they were cheesy, but they produced some great stuff, and as far as i'm aware wrote all their own songs, apart from the few ABBA covers they've done, i always take bands more seriously when they write and produce their own material, rather than just copying/rehashing other bands material, it makes them feel authentic.

Vince wrote most of the tracks on the Speak & Spell Album.
His only one with Depeche Mode.

Ha ha - that sounds like The Tank, Swan and Balloon from 1992. Andy Bell on stage has more camp than Butlins.Papabendi wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 2:07 pmI remember my mum being pleased with herself when she bought me an Erasure live VHS when I was around 11-12. STOP is one of their biggest hits, no doubt. Think it got to Number two in the charts. When I last saw them, they finished their encore with it. Was great.

A Little Respect is just a perfect pop song.
Blue Savannah probably my second favourite Erasure track.

Re: Vince Clarke turns 60 today
I was asked to sing A Little Respect at a recent wedding. Think that’s my go to song although my all time favourite is Rock me Gently (the original ten minute version). Blue Savannah is a classic!

Early 2000s Mrs Herts and I were in a pizza place in Soho. She said that bloke at the next table looks like Andy Bell from Erasure. I said so much like him that it actually is him. Not my taste in music really but they are very good.

Re: Vince Clarke turns 60 today
My favourite is 'You Surround Me' but Blue Savannah and Respect are up there.
Re: Vince Clarke turns 60 today
Don't half make me feel old. I grew up with Yazoo and Erasure amongst other bands. Just read the other day Debbie Harry is 75. Crikey! When I listen to that music it takes me back. Feels funny somehow when you read they've all got old. Seems timeless somehow.

Re: Vince Clarke turns 60 today
Well my parents were big Elvis, Connie Francis, Nat King Cole fans. Think we even had Perry Como and Max Bygraves LP's stashed away. I get your point though, but still seems like yesterday that Erasure were in the charts regularly. Where does the time go?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 9:04 pmI wouldn’t worry too much - I grew up with Elvis and the Beatles
