Family gatherings at your home
BBQ's in the garden with friends
Walks in our glorious countryside
Taking the kids out to the seaside
A bottle or two in your own home
Eventually these will become the norm again and I will look forward to doing them far more than a trip to the boozer.
Will you be going to the pub tomorrow?

Re: Will you be going to the pub tomorrow?
I'll be holding off for a bit not because of the virus threat but mainly because its gonna be more like sitting in a restaurant drinking beer than a pub round me.
My locals are pretty busy pubs and to go there you'll need to book a table, give all your details for tracing, limited to groups of 4 at a table, not allowed to walk about freely, cant go to the bar.
Sounds rubbish and you run the risk of being put into 14 day lockdown if someone else in the pub ends up testing positive. Gonna be having a bbq and party next Saturday at my mates house instead whilst watching the Liverpool game which sounds a lot more fun than sat at a table adhering to loads of rules

Bar staff and landlords are really in a precarious position. First couple of hours no problem. Once the punters have a few down them and starting mingling the problems will start. The punters will turn on them if they say anything about it.
I’m in the middle with how it’s gonna go. Imo most pleasant people will stay away a week or 2 and let the knuckle draggers take out their 3 month no fighting rage out on each other.

Re: Will you be going to the pub tomorrow?
Bad forecast this weekend so I won't be bothering. I will definitely be back in the pubs, but only in the off peak times or I will try pubs with beer gardens when dry and warm.
Usually visit a pub 3 xs a week, more through habit than actually enjoying myself. I have now got used to drinking at home and find that I enjoy it more and drink less

Not really as pub as such but off to Waggoners on Sunday for tea, really looking forwards to it although it will be different from previous visits. They doing a max table of 6 in order to keep with distancing rules.
Re: Will you be going to the pub tomorrow?
I know my close friends have observed all the rules during lockdown as I have. I will also have strict rules on hand sanitising upon entering my home. I would feel more comfortable around them than a bunch of strangers in a pub of whom I have no idea of their lockdown habits or cleanliness.Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 2:42 pmAnd the greatest danger to your health is No2 on the list. Not a great frequenter of pubs nowadays anyway so whilst all forms of entertainment are banned and especially whilst we can't go to football I'm in no rush.
I may venture out for a meal once the novelty has worn off in a few weeks time.

Why don’t you just go somewhere that doesn’t attract knuckle draggers? Fantastic. Actually laughed out loud at that.Stalbansclaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 11:34 amAren't some of the responses on this thread a bit , well, OTT in terms of fear ? I was reading its the case that around one in 2,200 people have the virus and there is a fatality rate of around 2%. So if I go to the pub and there are 22 other people there I have a 1% chance of one of them having the virus. I'll be distancing from them though so much lower than 1% chance of catching it ...lets say 0.25% chance though, meaning then that I have a 0.005% chance of dying from my visit to the pub. I think that means I would have to go to the pub typically 20,000 times under current conditions to die. I was only planning to go once or twice a week to try and help keep it open !

Not sure if the 30,000 number is correct, but 30,000 out of 66.65m is 1 in 2,200 people. Pretty good odds as long as you socially distance & take precautions (hand washing, etc).
I’ll avoid the rush for a few weeks, but will be back in pubs/restaurants soon.

Yes, I’ll pop down to my local. Not being in the ‘dangerous category’ in any way, I fail to see why it shouldn’t be life as normal. If I was at risk then I’d have a different view, but I’m not.
Some might see that harsh or callous. I just see it as managing risk - something I do daily.

Re: Will you be going to the pub tomorrow?
I’m not a pub goer so it doesn’t affect me so my answer is no. More important things for me. I saw my brother this week for the first time since we went on the Spurs game. But it was outside the house for a short time and at a two metre distance. Of all things, I’m looking forward most to be able to see and spend time with my friends and family when I feel it is safe to do so.

Like it or not, that's the exact situation we are faced with, it ultimately boils down to how we react & respond to our new permitted freedoms, we can be sensible as the vast majority will be & have been throughout the Covid-19 outbreak or we can go gung-ho brazenly dismissing all health & safety protocols & guidances & regress to a bleaker future.dougcollins wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 8:39 pmI suppose you could say it's not 'your' risk, it's the risk of you passing it on to someone vulnerable.

The weather will have a big influence on tomorrow's events.
A nice day would mean that pub outdoor areas could accommodate further punters.
I believe that the weather is unfavorable.

The odds will be slightly better against meeting one of the 30,000 when you take into account that some of them are already in hospital trying not to die.NewClaret wrote: ↑Fri Jul 03, 2020 8:10 pmNot sure if the 30,000 number is correct, but 30,000 out of 66.65m is 1 in 2,200 people. that you are able to mix in a pub environment with minimum risk to yourself. However, your mum is at
risk, and whilst not attending the pub, can potentially mix with someone who has.
This is the knock-on effect that is worrying an awful lot of people, including me.

I suppose by not at risk he means he’s not at risk in the same way that by going to the pub he’s not at risk of death by electrocution or murder. Obviously there’s a remote chance of those incidents occurring but you wouldn’t describe yourself as being at risk of them.Transpennine wrote: ↑Sat Jul 04, 2020 12:16 amYou're not at risk? Ok, I am fit and healthy, and thus at minimal risk from C19. The same way there is a minimal risk from crossing the road, driving a car, playing golf, and every other aspect of life.Transpennine wrote: ↑Sat Jul 04, 2020 12:16 amYou're not at risk? Manage the risk appropriately.
Re: Will you be going to the pub tomorrow?
The opening up today is an economic decision not a health or scientific decision. Hopefully we don’t hear reports of p*ssheads totally ignoring distancing after a few but I wouldn’t bet on it. I went into a big airy diy store yesterday with one in one out. Can’t see how you can successfully social distance in a pub, hotel or airline.
Re: Will you be going to the pub tomorrow?
No. I go to relax. These rules will not make the pub experience enjoyable. I have to book a slot at my local so forget it.

Re: Will you be going to the pub tomorrow?
Reopening pubs, clubs etc relies on people behaving responsibly. Is Boris blind? Has he not seen how Dominic Cummings and his own father both behaved irresponsibly? Did he not see the thousands of people congregating in the parks and on the beaches just over a week ago?
The vast majority of people may behave responsibly, but the stupid minority won't. Social distancing might work up to a point in the sort pf pub that Boris and co might visit, but the social distancing in town centre locals, which generally aren't as big as country pubs will quicly deteriate once people have had a few drinks and begun to relax. I'm convinced that this will lead to arguments and disturbances and I understand why the emergency services are gearing up for a 'New Years Eve' style situation tonight.
Our NHS could do with a rest right now, not an A & E full of drunken louts, which is very likely to happen. Can you imagine those people's reaction when they are asked to wear masks and sit quietly while they are treated?
Boris might not be quite as bad as Trump, but his handling of this whole situation is not far behind and at least 20,000 people more than needed have died as a result of his incompetence.
Enjoy your new found freedoms if you are going out, but please do so responsibly.

I've been reading up on the 1918 killer flu pandemic. Pubs and theatres etc were closed when the first wave hit. The real damage was done after they were reopened too early. In the US masks were made compulsory in many states. Then there was a massive backlash to mask wearing in public 'nanny state and all the bull' and legislators backed down, only to make them compulsory again, but this time by popular demand, when the death toll shot through the roof.
