Probably having all your skin peeled off by a radiation leak and then being submerged in hydrofluoric acid.

Re: Most Painful Thing?
Apparently, giving birth is the second most painful thing someone can experience.
First - being burned alive.

Tis a fine line, thankfully impossible to happen at the same time

not according to most "lists" on google, fairly tame by all accounts.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 12:15 pmApparently, giving birth is the second most painful thing someone can experience.

Perianal Abscess is up there, and confirmed to me by a lady who has had one and also given birth that the abscess is much worse than giving birth. I have personally experience 2 of the ba5tards, and also a pilonidal abscess too which left me unable to stand; walk; sit; lie down; without any pain. I ended up collapsing in Burnley A&E and passing out - next thing I knew I was recovering from surgery with a hole the size of a golf ball at the base of my spine.
Re: Most Painful Thing?
I remember, as a small boy, in short trousers, catching my wee todger in the zip, momentarily.
Getting into bed, in the dark and catching your little toe, on the end, as you make your way there, at full pace, is the pain that gives and gives. It also wakes households and any neighbours, passers by, emergency services etc. Aaaargh!
Typo tge to the, plus predictive text error amended!

Re: Most Painful Thing?
apologies Frank - I was referring to the child birth one... I've never been burnt alive or know anyone who has as a point of referenceFactualFrank wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 12:38 pmWell, it's obviously subjective. I just remember reading a science paper once that put being burned alive at the top. I'd love to see what these lists put ahead of that.

Heartbreak.
Proper heartbreak.
I've broken and dislocated limbs but nothing comes close to genuine heartbreak. Physicallly and mentally.

Re: Most Painful Thing?
I think being boiled alive topped even that. Even the Tudors stopped boiling people alive, such was the spectacle of it.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 12:38 pmWell, it's obviously subjective. However, there must have been a nice sweet spot for the victim when the water went from too cold to the goldilocks zone..
Being burned was apparently less gruesome - if the flames caught them quickly enough and killed them fast.
For me, skin grafts were a very painful experience, as was having my broken leg set without anaesthetic. But they did give me a nice piece of wood to bite on at the time.

Re: Most Painful Thing?
How would someone know that unless they experienced being burned alive? Even if someone survived being burned alive they could only compare the pain to other pains they experienced themselves. What if the most painful experience they had before being burned alive was a nasty graze falling of a bike?FactualFrank wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 12:38 pmWell, it's obviously subjective. Happen they would have to rethink the painfulness of being burned alive if say they passed a couple of kidney stones the size of golf balls the week prior?

Ask the scientists. It's a bit like when they come out and say that dogs dream, and somebody replies with, "How do you know, have you asked them?" - they clearly have ways of knowing these things.bpgburn wrote: ↑Thu Jul 16, 2020 1:05 pmHow would someone know that unless they experienced being burned alive? Re: Most Painful Thing?
Getting kicked in the nuts must be more painful than childbirth. Ask a woman who has had a child if they would have another and the answer is often 'yes'. Ask a bloke who has been kicked in the nuts if wants another kicking and most blokes would say no.

Re: Most Painful Thing?
Agree in conjunction with taking certain types of painkillers & no fibre in the diet, you just know the farmer giles are around the corner. Squeezing out a king-sized humongous dump when the bowel muscles don't have a fart in them, sucking a egg through a straw, it's painful barbwire pullthru style.

3 weeks with a kidney stent following an unsuccessful attempt to LASER a kidney stone takes some beating.
Re: Most Painful Thing?
I've never been burnt alive or boiled to death, but I can say that gall stones and an infected gall bladder is some stages beyond merely sore.

Re: Most Painful Thing?
Apparently being flayed alive is pretty much up there with burning and boiling. Having all of your skin removed by a skilled person so that it all comes off in one piece is exceedingly painful...your whole body feeling the same pain as that small graze that gives you so much grief. Apparently death, although inevitable, can take days and usually comes in the form of either shock or hypothermia (because your skin keeps your body temperature up).
Thankfully they stopped doing it in Baxenden about 3 years ago.

Seeing a male catheter pulled out with the ballon still inflated looked painful but they say distraction can be an effective way to manage pain. This confused patient distracted himself by slinging his catheter at my head
