Gunners firing blanks. Well played Villa, now 8th is really on. £4m more than 10th. We might be able to afford Hendrick yet?

You can bet your botton dollar that the PL will be covered fot technical failure, as it's bound to happen once in a while. When it does, no doubt the rules revert to the online ref.

Arsenal played like a team that had put a bet on themselves to lose.. They were awful.

Do you think the Watford owner will sack himself if they go down?

Well done Villa! Great win for them.
Now we have a real chance of finishing above Arsenal.

Absolutely fantastic pair of results tonight. Three clubs from the south going down, even more so a London club.....love it!

Re: Tonight's footy 21/7/20 (Relegation Decider)
Interesting, Grealish was just asked if he had played his last match at Villa park, in a Villa shirt, and he didn’t outright say no.
Re: Tonight's footy 21/7/20 (Relegation Decider)
Regardless of whether Smith is good enough surely they would go for a manager who is perceived to play better football. If Everton can attract Carlo Ancelotti then wouldn't Villa think likewise?nil_desperandum wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 10:05 pmIsn't it the case though that with the money and resources he's had Smith has come close to disaster, and were it not for a dodgy VAR they could easily be down. Staying up on GD would be way below the expectations of fans and the board back in August.

Re: Tonight's footy 21/7/20 (Relegation Decider)
There's more than one way of looking at the upcoming transfer window.
It's possible that the board were thinking of selling one of our prized assets (And Sean would been aware of that.) but because they probably don't want to lose Sean, they might have promised not to do so? After all, that asset will still be an asset the following season.
Transfer windows aren't always just about bringing players in. It's sometimes about not letting assets go.
Now, can we finish 8th and give the club a bit more spending money?
C'mon you PL Clarets.

Re: Tonight's footy 21/7/20 (Relegation Decider)
Arsenal had a grand total of 0 shots on target tonight, must have been a long time since that last happened in a PL game, very much after the lord mayor's show from them.
The footballing gods seem to be on Villa's side, that Sheff Utd goal denied by the technology malfunctioning, the doubtful disallowing of Palace's early goal last week, and tonight they faced a Gunners side which didn't turn up.
Watford must be hoping that that Arsenal show up on Sunday, because i can see Bournemouth and Villa winning their games.

Well we don’t look like relegation material at the moment but it can change very quickly. I have 100% confidence in our manager but slightly less in our board

If Villa stop up, Smith will be manager for life - Which takes us to next Christmas in footballing terms. Nothing to worry about until then

Congrats to Villa on staying up, although it's not good re: Dyche.
I guess the plus is we can now finish above Arsenal.

Re: Tonight's footy 21/7/20 (Relegation Decider)
I was really pleased with the results tonight
especially with Villa beating Arsenal although
Watford losing wasn't far behind.
Personally I'd like Villa to stay up but if that happened
realise it would mean Bournemouth going down.
Before tonight I would have preferred Bournemouth
to stay up. To do that they need to win their last game and
hope both Watford and Villa lose theirs.
It could happen, I suppose.
Whatever, I'd like to think that Dyche doesn't go to Villa or anywhere else.
I'm not sure how wealthy Villa owners are but I suspect they may be
careful next time round and not splash as much as last time albeit it
may still be more than Dyche would get staying at Burnley.
But it might be a tall order to turn Villa round for anyone
and whoever it may be might not have too much time to do it in.
Although if Grealish leaves they'll have 40-50m coming in.
My worry would be that if Dyche went to Villa would he
try to get a couple from Burnley to follow him (Pope and Tarks, possibly McNeil?)
and he wouldn't get any of those on the cheap.
Disastrous for us, if that happened.

Even if they stay up, can't see Smith being there next season (they spent a lot of money last summer for a relegation fight)
British owners would be looking at Dyche
But, with foreign owners who knows what will happen

Mission accomplished? Only if you consider that the season started about a fortnight ago. As has already been explained, with the money he was given, the money available to him, the resources and support he's had Villa were regarded as a decent outside bet for a Europa League place before the season began, whereas Sheff U were expected to struggle. No Ney Never wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 10:48 pmCan't see why they would part ways with Smith if he keeps them up, mission accomplished is it not?
If you compare Smith with Wilder (and Dyche) he has frequently appeared completely out of his depth.
Assuming they stay up it will be due to the fact that we didn't turn up for the first half of our home game against them, and Michael Oliver had a problem with his VAR watch.

Presumably you're not aware that Mike Garlick is worth somewhere in the region of 60 million and the Villa owner is worth an estimated 9.2 BILLION.jurek wrote: ↑Wed Jul 22, 2020 12:31 am

Our best hope is that with that sort of money their heads are turned by an expensive foreign manager.
Re: Tonight's footy 21/7/20 (Relegation Decider)
Not so sure about that. They may well pot Smith now and call for Sean, who I think would jump at the chance 1) bigger club 2) more money for him and signings into the future 3) SD knows what it takes to stay in the Division 4) nearer his family home, and he is a "home bird" is Sean.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Tue Jul 21, 2020 11:52 pmCongrats to Villa on staying up, although it's not good re: Dyche.

Not sure he would find managing Villa in the Championship interesting enough as going straight back up is not easy.I think only West Spam us and Newcastle have managed that since we were relegated in 2010, 3 from 30 or 4 if Cardiff get through the play offs is a small chance

Re: Tonight's footy 21/7/20 (Relegation Decider)
Where has all this Dyche/Villa speculation come from ?
Re: Tonight's footy 21/7/20 (Relegation Decider)
But with the investment that Villa have why would they go for someone where the perception (wrongly ) from every opposition fan is that SD is a long ball defensive manager?
If Villa think they should be challenging the biggest clubs then surely they will be targeting managers of the calibre of Ancelotti and better.

Re: Tonight's footy 21/7/20 (Relegation Decider)
Maybe 2+2=5 but the first 2 comes from SD's recent utterances and how he loves family life the next 2 comes from the nearest premier league club to his home with possible change of manager meaning 2+2 may come to 4 plus Villa now have a mole who cost them about £8million.evensteadiereddie wrote: ↑Wed Jul 22, 2020 8:55 amWhere has all this Dyche/Villa speculation come from ?

I think that's a very reasonable point, but it doesn't stop me from worrying that they might be considering a move for Dyche. They did appoint their current English manager when there were expensive European options available.Spijed wrote: ↑Wed Jul 22, 2020 9:07 amBut with the investment that Villa have why would they go for someone where the perception (wrongly ) from every opposition fan is that SD is a long ball defensive manager?
