I also remember going in the enclosure with my dad in the 1950s.and we would have to pay extra. Great memories. There was also an enclosure (terraced) in front of the old stand.
The enclosure in front of the old stand was in use right up until the end of the 1968/69 season I think. You could either pay more to go straight in or transfer at either end for a few extra pence.

I would sit on the turnstiles to the enclosure, after there use was discontinued. My Dad stood on the rail directly behind me across the crosswalk. Wonderful view and no jostling.

Is the 'unknown' on the left hand end of the front row Joe Brown?

Here's a pic of the whole squad from 1961:

Image

Burnley line up for a group photo at Turf Moor in Burnley, England, circa August 1961. Back row (left-right): C. Williamson, J. Gibson, Les Latcham, David Walker, Arthur Bellamy, A. Ashpell, D. Crompton, Brian O'Neil, John Auchie, Mick Buxton and Andy Lochhead. 3rd row: unknown, Walter Joyce, Peter Simpson, Ian Towers, Ian Lawson, Billy Marshall, Harry Thomson, Adam Blacklaw, Jim Furnell, Trevor Meredith, Charlie Govan, John Angus, John Talbut and Ray Bennian (trainer). 2nd row: John Connelly, Jimmy McIlroy, Alex Elder, Jimmy Adamson, Harry Potts (manager), Ray Pointer, Brian Miller, Gordon Harris and Tommy Cummings. Front row: unknown, Willie Irvine, H. Singer, Johnny Price, Ron Fenton, Fred Smith, Bill Poynton and unknown.

Looking at the original photo, I'd say the missing player is back row 7th from the left - D. Crompton.
The picture is a thing of Beauty! In front of the fabulous Longside!

Yes. I’ve mentioned it further up the thread.

My first game was 1964 and I can't remember the Longside enclosure but the one in front of the Brunshaw Road stand was there. I think they charged sixpence extra to go in there.

Had the gates and railings gone by then? I can remember them being there when I first started going but the gates by then were open and you could just go through.

Got the one behind the trophy I think - Peter Simpson
I thought Peter Simpson was going to make it but they shipped him out. The rumour was that Bob Lord took exception to him getting done for displaying a dodgy tax disc on his car whilst parked on Keirby car park, in front of Willie Morgan's Supertique.

They could've still been there because I was six years old and can only remember being on the Bee Hole End and beating Spurs 7-2.

Wouldn't surprise me - I bet there is a good list of players who were shipped out for non-footballing matters because they crossed Lord.
