Superb guitarist, struggled with his mental health. Always remember reading an article about him when he received a royalty cheque for something like 40 grand but didn't want it and either tore it up or just put it in a drawer.

Dreadful news. So much talent, so many wasted years(in both senses).
RIP Peter, thanks for the music.

"His" Fleetwood Mac were one of my favourite bands ever and he seemed to have everything for a rock/blues star; nice soulful voice, great guitar sound and a handsome/non-egotistical bloke.
Saw him with Mac at Sophia Gardens Pavilion, Cardiff in 1969, they played great & one of my favourite gigs ever (BB King, Long John Baldry, Duster Bennett + Sonny Terry & Brownie McGhee also on that bill).

RIP Peter Green and thanks for all the great songs and guitar playing; given me a lot of pleasure over the years.

The very best white blues guitarist. He knew how to use pauses and convey emotion with such a sparse style. I heard that when Eric Clapton left the Bluesbreakers, John Mayall said 'I've got someone better'. He was absolutely right in my view, Eric Clapton was always too busy and never really matched the feel of Peter Green's playing. A sad loss, one of my all time favourites.

If you get a chance just take a few minutes to listen to Slabo Days from In the Skies Album.

Totally agree with you.
i think their early US tour shaped their blues style. The American recordings are brilliant.

Says it all about what sort of man he always was that he didn’t want the limelight and was about the music.

The name Fleetwood Mac which he chose was after the rhythm section of the band.

Man of the world was/is a simplistic masterpiece. The world’s lost a true music man and a genius.

Just a heads up to say that the documentary Peter Green : Man of the World is on BBC4 at 9.30 tonight.
Been on before, but well worth watching.

Cheers for the heads up EC. it's fair to state that he's not one of the first names that comes to people's minds when you mention Fleetwood Mac, despite being one of the original members.

Thanks!!

Think there was another thread where I said, Man of the World is probably the most perfect song, ever written. Whilst I like and enjoy others more, that’s just perfect.

great lyrics:

I guess I've got everything I need
I wouldn't ask for more
And there's no one I'd rather be
But I just wish that I'd never been born

It is a great song. Have you heard the instrumental version: Man of the World -Studio from The best of Peter Green Splinter Group? It's sublime.

My favourite is the guitar break at the end of 'Love that Burns', with Christine Perfect giving a splendid accompaniment on piano.

Thanks for posting this. Brilliant telly and a tragic story. I didn’t know much of Fleetwood Mac’s early stuff but I’ll be getting more familiar now.

I loved Fleetwood Mac and their songs in particular those
Peter Green wrote and played in without being aware of his problems
until much later.
Was both fascinating and sad to watch the tribute to him tonight
but heartening also, in the sense that his music still lives on
and he managed to emerge eventually from his illness and
still carry on playing and performing.

Great guy and he shall be sadly missed.

Gave up on it, great musician but another depressing tale of a drug induced downward spiral to almost oblivion.

The End of the Game is unique. I bought it when it first came out. Hallucinogentic but, as Carlos Santana once said, you wouldn’t have had a such classics as Sg. Pepper and Electric Ladyland if the musicians hadn’t indulged. The guitar technique on this record is perhaps above what Jimi Hendrix achieved, and that’s saying something. It was a shame that it ended there.
