Re: ARTICLE: Who scored our best goal of the 2019/20 season?
In the last three seasons I've cast my vote as follows:
2016/17: Jeff Hendrick v Bournemouth (h)
2017/18: Jeff Hendrick v Everton (a)
2018/19: Jeff Hendrick v Chelsea (a)
I'm tempted with his goal at Brighton but I might break my tradition this year.

At OT, left peg, very tough angle, in off the bar (always makes it look even better) the main moment of our first win at Manchester United for donkey years.
No brainer - has to be Jay Rod

Difficult decision.
At the moment I'm swaying towards Jay at Old Trafford.
- His touch
- The angle
- The audacity to shoot from there
- De Gea flying through the air
- Has no chance as at goes in off the bar
- It's at Old Trafford

Was torn between Jay at OT, and Vydra at Southampton, but i'll go for Vydra as his proved to be the winner.
Also i'd give a mention to Westwood against Leicester, that was a cracking finish in a vital game, which ultimately turned our season around.

Re: ARTICLE: Who scored our best goal of the 2019/20 season?
Why does going in off the bar make it look better? I'm not questioning you, I totally agree that it does. I remember the one David Jones scored against Derby in our first promotion season under Dyche. There's no logic, why should it look better than one just simply flying into the top corner?matttheclaret wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 11:02 amAt OT, left peg, very tough angle, in off the bar (always makes it look even better) the main moment of our first win at Manchester United for donkey years.

Re: ARTICLE: Who scored our best goal of the 2019/20 season?
Good question. No real reason for it. Maybe just because they're not too common and also gives the impression that a goal is slightly more unstoppable when it goes in off the bar?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 11:13 amWhy does going in off the bar make it look better? That Jones goal you mention was a cracker. Thompsons at Reading immediately springs to mind. On a lesser scale, I enjoyed Jays header at West Ham a couple of weeks ago too.

there was just something very emotive about J-rod's goal that set it apart from the others.
Re: ARTICLE: Who scored our best goal of the 2019/20 season?
Should the Erik Pieters goal in the FA Cup be against Norwich and not Peterborough?

Re: ARTICLE: Who scored our best goal of the 2019/20 season?
The best technical goal was Jay's goal vs Chelsea, however as the game was dead at that point, it can't really win goal of the season.
Really a massive fan of Jeff's goal at Brighton, due to it being a full length of the pitch effort, including a back flick.
However due to many reasons, it's got to be Jay at Old Trafford

Re: ARTICLE: Who scored our best goal of the 2019/20 season?
Jays at OT, but Vydras was a cracker.
Re: ARTICLE: Who scored our best goal of the 2019/20 season?
Jay’s goal at old Trafford was fantastic, but I think Ashley Barnes goal against Wolves was up there with it
Re: ARTICLE: Who scored our best goal of the 2019/20 season?
Between Jay and Vydra and opted for Vydra but was a hard one to choose.

I've taken the weather into account, Vydra's control and touch were phenomenal, as was the finish.

Which goal did win that year?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 1:10 pmHa ha - to be fair he won two of the three and I still think he should have won with the goal at Everton.
Re: ARTICLE: Who scored our best goal of the 2019/20 season?
I really can't decide: each of these goals is good enough to win goal of the season but for different reasons.
Most spectacular goal of the season: Jay at OT.
Best goal through build up, clever interplay and a beautiful strike: Jeff Hendrick at Brighton
Best goal through ball control, beating defenders and scoring with an unstoppable shot: Matej at Southampton.

Re: ARTICLE: Who scored our best goal of the 2019/20 season?
Personally, as brilliant as Jay' s strike at Old Trafford was, along with some great build up I went for Vydra at Southampton.
I was at the game and the way he received the ball, made space and then smashed it into the top corner almost falling over was unbelivable. The conditions that day were also shocking, so for me it just pips J Rod..

Re: ARTICLE: Who scored our best goal of the 2019/20 season?
Technically, if a shot hits a post and still goes in it's right on the threshold of missing/going in. By keeping a shot away from the centre of the goal it makes it more difficult to save.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 11:13 amWhy does going in off the bar make it look better? But there's something psychologically more satisfying about seeing the ball hit the frame and then go in. I don't know why that should be but perhaps it's because goals that hit the frame on their way in have an additional element between the shot and the goal? Maybe our brains see these as better "stories" with additional drama?
It's an interesting question.

Yes, and it did more than just win the match, it was a great boost to his confidence and appeared to change Sean's thinking a bit for the team's benefit.claretandy wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 1:11 pmI've taken the weather into account, Vydra's control and touch were phenomenal, as was the finish.

A vote here also for Jay at Old Trafford. Interestingly for any regular fan of Man Utd. with a seat in the Stretford End they've had to endure a number of cracking goals scored by us down that end during Sean Dyche's time in charge. A great diving header from Danny Ings, that free kick from Steven Defour, Ashley Barnes lashing one in the top corner after a defensive mix-up and to cap the lot that stunner from Jay.

Jays at Man Utd will probably win... but for me it would be third behind Jays v Chelsea which was absolutely sublime, but seemed to get lost because the game was over by then, and Vydras at Soton.

For me, the best goal at that end was the SD free kick by a country mile, so all good goals, but to cap the lot, Steven Defour putting the ball out of reach of TEN David de Geas...Silkyskills1 wrote: ↑Fri Jul 31, 2020 12:41 pmA vote here also for Jay at Old Trafford. That's why Vyds got my vote. Winning goal too, and the context of his lack of game time.claretandy wrote: ↑Thu Jul 30, 2020 1:11 pmI've taken the weather into account, Vydra's control and touch were phenomenal, as was the finish.
