Burnley and Pendle to lockdown?

Post by MACCA » Thu Jul 30, 2020 9:42 pm

People from Burnley will not be able to mix indoors with people from other households as of midnight tonight.

Not sure what that means for, pubs, shops, restaurants, gyms etc..

This could be the final nail in the coffin for many pubs, cafes, hotels and restaurants in our areas as I assume they come under this banner? Or are they exempt as social distancing can be guaranteed to be in place?

It's going to be interesting to see how businesses are treated.

Well that’s just bloody fantastic isn’t it. I come out of shielding on Saturday and I was hoping to see my kids for the first time in 5 months in the next week or two, guessing that’s not going to happen now

You either lockdown fully or nothing at all. You can’t half do it.

Regardless of social distancing, it states no one can meet anyone indoors from another household.

Should rule out pubs , restaurants, gyms and places of worship.

Although however, many have struggled to listen to the basic requests for many months now, so doubt another polite instruction will be any different.

I think it only applies to meeting indoors so you should be ok outdoors - weather permitting.

Lots of people have bilthely ignored the lockdown rules because they assume it doesn't apply to them or they won't catch it, or they don't know anyone who's had it/died.

Even a simple request to wear a mask whilst shopping is met with open hostility bizarrely.

This new lockdown is what happens as a result unfortunately.

In theory you could still go to a pub or restaurant with your own household? Or stay outside in the beer garden? I'm hoping most of them will stay open.

A couple of things:

1) How does Hancock know it's because of "households meeting and not social distancing"?
2) I can not believe London and the surrounding areas have not spiked since lockdown has been relaxed? Something tells me locking down London again wouldn't be in the best interest of the economy so they will ignore the rises but shutting down the North isn't as disruptive!?

It's pretty obvious that it's aimed at Eid celebrations as all areas have large Muslim populations that's why imposed from midnight tonight.

Hopefully I can arrange something - had premier inn booking for 15th, was going to take my daughter shopping for her birthday treat (it was in May), if Trafford Centre is still open it may still be possible... thanks both

Looking at today’s figures Hyndburn and Rossendale are pretty good compared with rest of lancs so it’s a bit of a blow. Blackburn is now at 1400 plus cases. It’s the major hotspot. Yet filling up at petrol station there yesterday people still not wearing masks. !!
I suppose with Eid the fear was it would quickly spike again throughout the Asian communities of east lancs and West Yorkshire.

Anyone who thinks the requests will make an ounce of difference , can come and buy some very rare unicorn poo off me if they want?

Hopefully we will get some clearer instructions tomorrow, as I very much doubt pubs, restaurants, gyms and places of worship will be closing any time soon.

Filled up with fuel at Morrisons at Nelson today, several groups of teenagers 6 to 10 strong hanging around the entrance to the main store, white security guard calling for his Asian heritage colleague to come and ask them to leave ... obviously no masks etc ! Didn't bother going in as planned, went to Sainsburys in Burnley, where the usual protocols were in force ..

Must admit surprised Rossendale is on the list throughout the pandemic the figures have been quite low in comparison to the national average.

Will the police enforce this in the Asian areas of East Lancs ? I very much doubt it as they are sensitive to community cohesion, I bet they will patrol West Burnley, Padiham etc in case there is a funeral involving 250 people.
There is clearly no way the police can enforce it effectively by stopping those from different household meeting indoors - they can't patrol in people's houses.

How on earth is Liverpool not on this list after those mass gatherings when they won the Premier League? I think that just confirms this is targeting the Eid celebrations, hopefully people listen..

Was going to drive up from Nottingham tomorrow to go visit my mum in Nelson. The poor girl has been locked away since March ffs with no one visiting apart from food drops and shouting through the window from outside.
Why some elements of society can't follow some simple rules is beyond me.

I unreservedly accept the Government decision on this and as a good citizen will follow the instructions given out tonight.

We went to our local the other night. All the necessary signs, none of the messages being acted upon, either by the staff of the customers. Full service at the bar, no table service, no distancing.

Easy to say as a punter, but if I was the landlord of a village pub, I’d be doing my utmost to ensure a safe environment, to keep the community as safe as possible.

That's not right. I know of several pubs that have taken it very seriously and implemented effective social distancing measures. In fact one pub that immediately springs to mind is only trading outside still with appropriate social distancing. Once again it's about balance - there has to be some reopening of the economy and society.

Sensational news for me.

I live in Accrington, but drove to Manchester this evening to play 7 a side. Then on to Bradford to see the Mrs for the weekend.

How can you go from having pubs and 5 a side centres open to this?!

i'm not suggesting that some pubs aren't doing their utmost. But I doubt that they can guarantee social distancing when folk have had a few drinks.
And if a country's economy depends on the pub trade????

There are no guarantees in any of this. It's about managing risks. Risks of higher transmission versus economic and wider societal risks. No, a country's economy doesn't depend on the pub trade - it's one component but they are also part of our communities and need supporting. I've been to several pubs and have witnessed seriousness and effective social distancing.

It's virtually impossible for pubs to create a safe environment. And irresponsible beyond belief that the government let them open. Bonkers
I think that depends on the pub. I’ve been to one other since they reopened and that was completely different.

Full table service, sanitising, properly distanced, staff in masks etc.

I do agree somewhat though. It won’t be a surprise to me if we end up in another lockdown and it’ll be those not following rules / doing things properly that will be the cause.

Utter shambles again from this government. Announcing something this significant a few hours before the changes come into effect via social media

Sensational news for me.

I live in Accrington, but drove to Manchester this evening to play 7 a side. Then on to Bradford to see the Mrs for the weekend.

How can you go from having pubs and 5 a side centres open to this?!
Bars, restaurants, pubs and gyms to stay open according to the local MP.

So guess you can have a beer and kick about by yourself at said locations

To be fair, I think it was made abundantly clear that if the numbers dictated, quick action would be taken. It’s hardly a surprise, we’ve known of numbers rising in certain areas, for a while now.

I suspect whoever was in charge would have done the same.

Sorry to hear that mate, hope your knees are holding up these days. I thought of you today in fact, I was watching Cop Car Workshop on Dave and an old colleague of ours was on there running the workshop - Mick S...

Been a long time since we last had a chat mate... Reading away was a fantastic trip wasn’t it :D
Sure is mate, and really naffed tonight. Knees are good thanks, and yup, that night in Reading was something else, probably the best ever. Stay well and stay safe.

Can't watch that programme, I don't watch anything to do with cars these days, 44 years of the bastards is enough :D :D

Has BURNLEY had a spike of infections?
Nothing drastic at all.

The missus is NHS Staff. All NHS Staff receive regular updates of the numbers of new infections and those admitted to hospital within East Lancashire.

She tells me it is supposed to be classified information so I'm under strict orders not to divulge.

What I can disclose is there are no covid patients in Burnley General.
