Nixon has got a story about us in the paper tomorrow.

Oooohhh the suspense is killing.

I presume with the death silence for the last 18 hours, it's as underwhelming as ever...

Although Burnley has been mentioned in a couple of papers, Northampton have signed an ex full back of ours, Joseph Mills.

The news is Boro want Gibson, but only on loan, Norwich also interested, we want Worrell from Forest, Sheff Utd also interested.

Mills is still only 30 too and I think one we had on loan in 2012 and had to sign him on in the summer of 2013 but managed to ship him out on loan to I think Oldham. Not one of our better dealings in the transfer market

Nice to hear Norwich want him - hopefully there’s a deal to be done somewhere there :D

More a case of how we would replace Gibson if we got paid cash for him surely?

So no actual news then, just what everyone already knows.

Boro want Gibson but cant afford him, we want rid, and if we do get rid we will be replacing him.

Sums it up perfectly. We all know Boro want to resign him but are struggling, and Worrall was a player we were linked with two summers ago.

We have less cash than normal in this league, we will have used some of the dry powder, we have lost about 4 good earners (Hart Drinkwater Hendrick, Lennon) plus Legzdins but took on Brownhill and apparently those payments only stopped at the end of last month, so only now has the wage bill fallen.
I imagine given the uncertainty of how long our monthly income will be reduced we will have to release funds to splurge millions on players as we enter probably the most difficult season since being promoted.

I can't see a first choice player under Dyche actually asking a club to sign him. But £30 million minimum and the club would find it hard to turn down.

Neil Moxley in "Irish People" saying we are "hot on the trail of..... midfielder Marc Roca of Espanyol". Also stated to be being courted by some of the "biggest clubs in Europe" - Espanyol relegated so he is likely to move on elsewhere. AC Milan and a couple of German clubs also interested.

Same paper..... John Richardson saying Leicester "have made a move for" Tarks. He says " initial discussions ..indications are that Burnley will only sell if the £50m release clause is met". (And who said good old British Sports Journalism was dead???!!)

Italian clubs are broke! No way Wood would “offer” himself there, plus cant see us selling when our style of play is so dependent on Wood/scoring & creating goals from set plays.

If we got a goal scoring winger, a creative/goal scoring midfielder and Dwight started chipping in with a few, I could see a situation where one of our four could be sold to maximise value next summer, but think we’d need a year of transition first.

No they are not. Further down the league pyramid they may be but don't think Lazio are broke. You don't think Wood would accept an offer from a Rome based club playing Champs League football? He'd be crazy not to. But it sounds a bit far-fetched to me. He's good but he isn't that good.

Wood’s gf, Kirsty Linnet, plays for Liverpool Ladies. Strange one unless he’s thinking of moving her on.

Lazio being heavily linked with David Silva. As said above there is still plenty of money washing about in Italian football and many clubs would blow Burnley out of the water financially. Add on to that the lifestyle etc and it’s still a far more attractive prospect for many players.

Personally I think Wood going to Lazio would be a disaster. He’s been great for Burnley and you still get plenty of our fans having a bit of moan about him - at Lazio the pressure put on players by their fans is at a completely different level of intensity to Burnley. They’ll wait for you at the training ground and expect you to discuss it with them !!

Fair enough, have just looked & revenue is about the same as ours. Thought I’d read Italian clubs were generally struggling financially (albeit they probably are domestically, but suppose in Lazio’s case they do have the CL money to top it up). Also heard Lazio are heavily debt laden but not so bad about €60m.

In any event, still think he wouldn’t “offer” himself to them.

Once again we have our supporters talking down our players ability"he's good but he's not that good "
Chris is a full international and a class act
I for one feel he would be sorely missed if sold but he was the talent to play in Serie A

I get your point but quoting" full international" when he plays for NZ isn't really saying much.

Buendia the much better option. Norwich want £20m for him - so would probably go for 16-18m region I’d imagine, offer Gibson in to the equation and we aren’t too far off that mark, for a really good versatile player.

Us. Get on the phone Mikey G!!

If we could get Buendia for a reasonable price, with a Gibson as a makeweight, then a decent RW and a CB replacement and we’d be moving in to next season with a much stronger squad.

That'd be a great deal for us, kills 2 birds with 1 stone, gets Gibson off the payroll, and we get a cracking prospect in Buendia, if we can't get Buendia, I'd even take Hernandez as part of a swap deal plus cash, he was one of the few Norwich players who stood out post-lockdown, if we could get him that would represent a good start to the window, he can play left or right, and also as a 2nd striker, that's useful if we want to change a game, and what I noticed about him is he isn't afraid to take people on and run with the ball, that's an area Dwight accepted where we're solely lacking.

You can question his character, but the fact is Gibson hasn't been given the chance to show his worth on the pitch. I don't think it's fair to judge him on the odd cup performance, especially with Dyche's attitude towards the cup competitions.

Yeah, of course. I reckon in the Board Meetings they say: “who are we signing this year?” And then agree: “well Rigg hasn’t got a ****ing clue, we’d better get on UTC and see who NewClaret wants”....

Yeah, makes so much sense it will never, ever happen

Yep, would also take Hernandez or, at a push, Aarons (don’t really rate him - small & defensively dodgy, but maybe Dyche could sort the latter). The rest - Cantwell, Godfrey, Lewis - are good players but we don’t really need players in their positions.

You can question his character, but the fact is Gibson hasn't been given the chance to show his worth on the pitch. I don't think it's fair to judge him on the odd cup performance, especially with Dyche's attitude towards the cup competitions.
So how else could any club judge him in terms of his worth and how he would improve their squad?
Unfortunately (for us) he's seriously devalued himself through his actions (or lack of).

Anyone really think either Mike Garlick or Sean Dyche read this forum for ideas of how to do our transfer business?

Does anyone remember McParland (may have the wrong name) but worked at Brentford in the Recruitment team with Mark Warburton. Seem to remember him joining us in the Recruitment team, and within weeks we got Joey Barton and Andre Gray. Both were fantastic signings and helped us win the Championship title. He may have been responsible for more players coming to BFC but he did not stay long.

Of recent we seem to have lost our way in this area of our business

Several things, Firstly we we were a big fish in the championship, so the fees and wages we could pay often blew others out of the water, its polar opposite in this league, we are in the bottom 20% of them stats every season.
Secondly the transfers in the championship that could be described as gambles were relatively small, in comparison, we cant make many if any 15-20m mistakes, which is what a player costs seems to cost in this league.
Thirdly the club wasn't looking for a buyer/investment back then. ( Hence why we are running a very tight ship now, and wanting to show very good balance sheets and post big profits )

As for Rigg, I don't know what he has done, offered or any transfer he has been involved in that either, we normally wouldn't have been, or a man on the street couldn't have recommended.
We were told not to expect instant miracles, but up to press it appears he hasn't done very much in terms of improving the situation since his arrival.

We are a top half Premier league team it doesnt sit well with some out there but we need to be acting like it
We have a sensible wait and see attitude ti recruitment
There was a good piece on players out of contract in the Telegraph with lower league players told by agents to grab what's on offer
Perhaps Max Thompson needs to read this
It's a brand new world since Covid 19

Back to the Gibson saga

SSN reporting Boro are bidding for Northampton CB which could mean they are no longer interested (they were only looking for a loan anyway given the fee we would be asking)
