Gibson agreeing to play for Norwich as long as he's allowed to wear his Boro training kit underneath the Norwich shirt

“Although there has been no mention of Burnley weighing up an offer for the former Goodison Park youngster he seems the perfect fit for Turf Moor.”

Article just sums up lancs.live, especially the above statement

Am I missing something? That article just seems clickbait. Talks about a Burnley link with no names and then just lists rumors for other teams.

You have to click to page 4. Even then it's a tenuous link to us.

It's a real shame how our local paper has sunk to such 'click bait' articles such as this.

When you realise that journalists are just content creators these days and that the purpose of that content is just to Generate clicks, and views for advertising revenue then you understand why these articles exist

Ben Gibson gets a lot of stick on here for being a wrong un but in all honesty nobody really knows what has gone on. But I do know one thing and that is, if Ben Mee hadn't had delusions of grandeur thinking he was VVD by refusing to sign a contract because he was waiting to see which other club would come in for him which was none by the way Ben Gibson wouldn't be here.

No.

It's been done a thousand times
Some will tell you he had, but it's usually those who break news after it happens.

Burnley didn't and still probably wouldn't break their transfer record for someone to sit on the bench for 18 months.

Yes the offer will have probably been on the table for a while, but it certainly hadnt been signed.

I know, like 95% of players arent only motivated by money.
Thankfully 95% of supporters are aware of this.

If I remember correctly (I might not be!) wasn't it pretty much accepted at the time that Mee was staying even before Gibson signed though?

We were after a centre back anyway. Wasn't Mawson from Swansea practically through the door a few weeks prior to that?

Just checked, new contract for Ben Mee was announced three days after Gibson. That seems a short period of time to hold further contract talks, reach a breakthrough in negotiations and then sign it.

I'd say the club was confident Mee was staying before signing Gibson

The offer was on the table, it was mearly a case of signing it.
The club probably had some reservations about Mee signing, any club could have came in and stuck an extra 15k a week on top of our terms and Mee would have toddled off into the sunset.

We got Gibson and then Mee signed which was great news.

Sadly the next thing that went against Gibson was Ben Mee becoming captain, it meant but for a lengthy injury to Mee, he wouldn't have ever got a run in the side.

Can't see us sending Glennon back to League 2, he'll be going up at least one level.

Story was that Mawson had trained with us verbally agreed a deal and then Fulham came in with a bigger offer.

Or maybe Ben Mee had his agent tout him around all summer, there was no interest so he signed his contract with us? I know it's been done to death on here but I don't buy that he was staying all along, why delay signing the contact till August, when I'm pretty sure our European campaign had already started?

Given that none of us have any idea how the players contracts are negotiated I guess we’ll never know.

We definitely need our U23 loan players going out to at least Div 1 or Championship level
The purpose is to produce first team squad members or saleable assets
Previously we have loaned our younger players to non league teams and this hasn't really helped their progress

Yeah he comes from the west side of the Wirral. Very nice over there. Hoylake, Heswall, Royal Liverpool Golf Club over that way. Quite posh on that side.

We barely sign a player early August when the window closes on the 31st

Should have started this thread in September, and even then youd be pushing your luck.

Sounds like he wants first team football. Unlikely to get that with us unless Tarkowski goes. If he's happy to bide his time. May be worth a punt. We do need cover at centre half.

I am sure I remember him, or it might have been his Dad, going mad about Burnley fans opinions of his performance (which was crap) on his one and only appearance for us when on loan from Everton. This was on't old board. Am I making that up?

Obviously has come on leaps and bounds since then, so not advocating not signing him. I think he would be a great replacement for Gibson, assuming that was the plan.

The classic 3 team “battle” for a footballer. That’s normally when I chalk it up as agent talk.

Here’s another one I don’t believe. Bertrand Traore.

Kev Long and Jimmy Dunne are both adequate cover at CB
If Tarks is sold we may need to sign Craig Dawson to bring our numbers up but Duffy is now more suitable at a lower league club.PNE or Rovers

Sounds like he wants first team football. Unlikely to get that with us unless Tarkowski goes. If he's happy to bide his time. May be worth a punt. We do need cover at centre half.
Can’t remember what program I was listening to, but it was talking about the number of defenders Brighton now have after they signed the lad from Ajax. And they said we’d been sniffing about Duffy in January as a replacement for Gibson.
Definitely think he’s a Dyche style player, not cultured on the ball but a blocker / stopper / threat at corners.
Makes sense that there could be something in this one

Duffy would be ok as cover but that is about it, is Tarks was to leave and we replaced with with Duffy, then we’d be in some trouble I’d imagine . We need to be signing a younger centre half in my opinion to be the next off the defender conveyor belt - as per Michael Keane and James Tarkowski.
