Re: Who Will Be Our First Signing
Our first signing was Phil Bardsley
Re: Who Will Be Our First Signing
No idea who our first signing will be but I don't think
anyone will be incoming until we sort out Gibson and whether someone,
Norwich possibly, put an offer in that is acceptable.
Having said that can't see Norwich offering much more than
8m - if that.

Re: Who Will Be Our First Signing
I'd take 8m with a 25% sell on fee.
Got to remember we will save 2m+ a year just getting Gibson off the wage bill

Re: Who Will Be Our First Signing
We've had 3-4 leave on frees, so we don't need to wait for the Gibson problem to be sorted, we've got space and spare wages.

Re: Who Will Be Our First Signing
It is ok leaving on a free at the end of contract - if we really did pay £15m for Gibson and he left on a free that would be a £7.5m loss (against amortised book value)GodIsADeeJay81 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 12, 2020 7:00 pmWe've had 3-4 leave on frees, so we don't need to wait for the Gibson problem to be sorted, we've got space and spare wages.

Not sure but I bet it’s also the last.
Re: Who Will Be Our First Signing
For about 2 weeks. Then they will no longer be fit.

Re: Who Will Be Our First Signing
Starting to get a bit worrying now. With 4 weeks to go until the new season resumes, I am assuming we will be back in training with the same depleated squad that finished the season in the next week or so?
Get that we don't do business early in the season typically, and that many others are in the same position, but had expected this season might be different given the number of planned departures.

Re: Who Will Be Our First Signing
I'm not sure.
A few people suggested his reported 15m fee will be spread over the course of his initial contract. So IF that is the case they will be due 3.75m each of the next 2 seasons, 7.5m in total.
If we cannot get 10m for him as a fee, we maybe in just as good a position saying to Boro he's theirs for 2.5m, and we cancel all further payments due.
He's reportedly on 45k per week which is 2.3m as season or 4.6m in total purely in wages for the remainder of his contract with us.
The main thing is we get shut, and asap
If he had to leave on loan as there's no other option we would need to recoup all of his 2.3m in wages and some sort of loan fee ( say 1.7m for the year ) for it to be worth a while.
4m including wages for a player with Gibsons previous abilities and reputation, is a snip for any side

Think we should just say he never arrived, that he’s still at their training ground & ask for a full refund!

Re: Who Will Be Our First Signing
This Dane McCullogh kid will probably be our first in.
Whether he's our last in too is another question.

Re: Who Will Be Our First Signing
We finished in the top half again so are an attractive proposition. Our squad was stretched to the limit at the end of the season. We released 3 first team squad members plus have another on the books who will never play for us again. We are already letting under 23’s out on loan. We have and always will sign new players.

Re: Who Will Be Our First Signing
Anybody before the last two days of the window will be moving up a Division.
Then we’ll get the best of the half decent remainder. Barnfield will then make Burnley players out of them.

Derek Riordan must be about 50 years old now, so I'll say his son.

Re: Who Will Be Our First Signing
That's possible, and if we keep our key men would that be so bad, I suspect we'll try and get rid of Gibson, and bring in an experienced centre back (Duffy?), but unless we sell anyone for big bucks I can't see many more arrivals, the advantage is that we'll retain our cohesiveness, the disadvantage is that if we pick up a number of injuries we'll be even more stretched.
I'm surprisingly relaxed about this window, what will be will be, and whoever we sign, Sean always seems to get the maximum out of the squad.
Arguably our biggest signing would be convincing Sean to sign a new contract, but given the tension between him and the board I'd wager that's unlikely.
