Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Can't see he could have taught Joe much who at one stage was as good as you can get (when he was a starter at Man City & England)
Joe had peaked when he came to us, but was felt he could slot straight in at a time that Heaton was injured (following recovery of his shoulder) and Pope damaged his shoulder and out most of the season.

Therein is the issue. Joe was spending all his time working with Head and Shoulders...warksclaret wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 5:22 pm

For me he was HEAD & SHOULDERS above anyone else in goal for almost a decade.Man City's No 1 keeper for 8 years, and approaching 450 PL starts. He was also no 1 England keeper for 7 years and got 75 caps. The stats speak for themselves

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
The stats indeed speak for themselves
Joe Hart HAD been a top keeper and even Magician Billy Mercer couldn't teach him anything
He was poor for Burnley and those are the stats worth considering
Gazza had been one of the brightest stars in football but when we signed him his career was on the slide
Mistakes happen in all walks of life and signing Joe on the wages we wasted on him was a serious mistake

He was crap on crosses but made some superb saves, I think calling him crap is a tad much - Mark Kendall and Joe Neenan where crap !!

Even though joe Neenan was crap, he’s was still far superior to Mark Kendal!
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
anything low and left went in against Hart. Funny my Westham mate says he was the same for them, oh and i seem to remember he was the same for England.

It's amazing how much criticism JH still receives on here. Isn't it over 18 months since he last played a league game for us (or anyone)?
Why can't the critics just accept that he was the wrong man at the wrong time? OK, he's not as good as NP is now, but that hardly makes him crap.

I guess that at the same age that would be correct. JH was very good very young.
NP could have a long and successful career, but he will not earn 75 England caps.

I think the bottom line is Joe Hart was never a Burnley type player, 'Billy Big ********' types don't fit with the Dyche ethos. Which makes me wonder who signed him.

But the assumption of many is exactly that of Exileincanada.
The only thing I can think of that JH actually did wrong is to take the place of the fans' favourite goalkeeper.

Since when did defence come into how many goals a goalkeeper conceded? That's absurd taking that into account.boatshed bill wrote: ↑Sat Aug 15, 2020 9:38 pmThere was clearly an issue at the back. possibly JH's lack of claiming crosses; however, I don't recall TH coming out for too many.

O'Brien from Huddersfield and the Worrall story again from Nixon. Believe there is something in the Worrall story although looks as though Sheff U are also in for him.

Worrying situation when the only real speculation is linked to further outgoings with four weeks until the PL resumes.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
That’s my point, doubt we’d be linked with Worrell if Gibson weren’t going the other way. All week the only speculation has been linked to Gibson.
I know we are very professional about how we conduct our business, but had expected some links to more than squad players by now.
O’Brien - fair enough, tenuous link but also a bit like Wilson. I’m more referencing players that are likely to come in and strengthen the first team squad immediately.
I think I’m more worried having lost so many players this summer that we’ll be starting with the same group in just under four weeks time if we don’t get a wriggle on.
Only saving grace being there will be less games until the January window.

Linked with 2 young players in positions we need sounds ok to me, especially if Gibson is on his way without us having to pay anything or much.

I think getting a young cb and ditto cm that we can develop is the way to go, as eventual replacements for Tarks and Cork. However, we need a new right winger that can start immediately.NewClaret wrote: ↑Sun Aug 16, 2020 11:07 amThat’s my point, doubt we’d be linked with Worrell if Gibson weren’t going the other way. Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Sheff Utd tend to be linked with pretty much every available player (in a certain bracket) at present. The sun reported that they wanted Hendrick in jan transfer window.
I don’t think it’s true to suggest if they are interested then it rules us out. Almost certain that our top earners are paid more than they are. Quite a number of their players were still on Championship contracts this season, Fleck
Was on £8k pw before signing a new contract.
I think we’re probably at a very similar level.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Bit of background on O’Brien from the Huddersfield website...
“Lewis O’Brien progressed through the Huddersfield Town Academy into the Club’s First Team set-up.
Before his successful loan spell in Sky Bet League 1 with Bradford City, the midfielder won the Huddersfield Town Academy Player of the Year award for two successive seasons.
Lewis, who was born in Colchester and joined the Terriers at Under-11 level, is a left-footed midfielder who is capable to play both in the middle and out wide. The hard-working youngsters is creative on the ball and doesn’t shy away from a tackle.
During his time at Bradford City, Lewis made over 40 appearances in all competitions and scored four goals in Sky Bet League 1.
During the 2016/17 season, he started 27 games for Town's Under-23s side and a late flurry of goals towards the end of the campaign saw the midfielder top the goal scoring chart.
Lewis first broke into Town’s Development Squad in the 2015/16 season and helped the team to win the Professional Development League 2 title.“

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
That write up misses off the most recent season in which he was their player of the year and also won a championship player of the month award.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
I remember watching Huddersfield vs West Brom about a month ago and Lewis O'Brien was outstanding for Hudds. He created the winning goal for them out of nothing. He's a diminutive, left-footed midfielder who looks most comfortable in a box to box role, but I believe he's played further forward in what we might describe as the 'Hendrick role' for them.
Never really seen much of Worrall but seems a decent type. Young and has plenty of development left in him for a CH, but with a lot of experience already under his belt. We've been linked with him for a couple of years now so you'd think there is definitely interest.
Would be very happy if we signed either or both of these players. Nothing too flashy (yet) but they have the potential to improve with good coaching. They fit the mould.

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Readers are saying they want new players who can go straight into the starting 11-doesn't work that way with SD. However injuries require you have players who can seamlessly step in to the team ie Brownhill. Hope there is truth in these two names and we can get them into pre-season training as it appears both could step up if required (or hate to say it someone comes in with a huge bid for Tarks)

Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Sheffield United are building debt, the Prince does not have enough money to bankroll them - they are starting from a low cost position but have spent significantly in the transfer market since promotions and appear to be ready to spend in excess of £40m (possibly £50m this window), but will soon find that their wages will at least match ours and that and their amortisation (also from a very low starting point) is rapidly building - they have the size to generate greater revenues than us in the medium term (especially when fans return). On top of the player costs they have a £50m plus mortgage on the ground and training ground (plus a couple of other properties) and are planning to do a major upgrade on the training ground in the next 18 months. It is ambitious but requires being in the Premier League to hold it all together (remember the Premier League has a lot of reduced income on the horizon, and it doesn't know when capacity crowds can return)

Gibson has been an extremely expensive pain in the neck. Couldn’t he have just been sacked for whatever he did. It might have been the cheaper option.
Re: BFC TRANSFER NEWS SUMMER 2020(MUST CONTAIN LINK)
Would be interesting to see how far the Gibson fiasco has cost us after he has left us and how much of a hole it will have put in our finances. Not that we will ever know. The minimum must be his wages since he went back to Middlesbrough and what we have shelled out in transfer fee and what if anything of that outlay we get back.
