Wait until you see what they are saying about commas and semicolons !!!
Disgraceful and offensive,this punctuation lark.

Re: Full Stops...
I blame their parentheses.

I was genuinely interested in the thinking behind the linguists who conducted the study.dandeclaret wrote: ↑Mon Aug 24, 2020 1:07 pmDid you read it and think.... young people, so soft

Re: Full Stops...
I've been talking to lots of young people about this. Its just modern text language and how its interpreted. Most interactions don't end with full stops.
So if your texting / messaging or whatever, a full stop basically indicates, 'end of conversation' or someone is is not willing to discuss the topic any further.
So if a person was to text:-
Are we still going to the cinema tonight?
No
That's the answer, probably too busy to go into detail - a follow up likey though
Are we still going to the cinema tonight?
No.
That's that. Why are they ****** off?

But I've also noticed that sarcasm doesn't work - you HAVE to put a smiley face or a winky face or 'jk' because people are too thick to understand.

Re: Full Stops...
Cool, another made up story to brand a whole generation of youngsters as over sensitive.
Let's test it, to see just how snowflakey they are. Which of these gets you most angry and agitated?
"Rule Britannia is being removed from Last Night of the Proms"
or
"Rule Britannia is being removed from Last Night of the Proms."

Re: Full Stops...
The sentence with a full stop in, if you were to send it as a text message might be interpreted that its matter of fact and you're not happy.

Read it a while ago in the Guardian. One of their young writers penned it.ClaretDiver wrote: ↑Mon Aug 24, 2020 12:40 pmJust been reading a report that younger people are now finding full-stops offensive and 'abrupt'...WTAF?
Daily Snowflake. Many of these young people today really need something to be upset about.
