Re: ARTICLE: Pope named in England squad
I do think there are to many unrealistic claims for some of our players to be in the squad but I’m extremely surprised Tarkowski has not forced his way in this time.
Re: ARTICLE: Pope named in England squad
Well done, Nick!
But what's going on with no Tarky? Maguire gets in. Well deserved.

Mings in - Tarkowski out - makes no sense at all to me. I know I'm biased but I just don't get that at all.

Tarkowski should be in the England squad. If he played for Spurs or Arsenal for example, I am sure he would be in there.

Keane and Mings in over Tarkowski, what an absolute joke of a system this is.

Absolute joke media picks Mings,Phillip's,Rice,Dierbolical Donkey Abraham all not good enough
Maguire should be dropped for his antics in Greece as should Walker re Covid breach
Nick is the best English keeper as the stats prove and Tarks has been at his best

I was about to post the same thing, to not even name a left back is curious, unless he expects the injured players to come back into contention in time?claretgoss wrote: ↑Tue Aug 25, 2020 2:12 pmThree right backs but no left backs in the squad either, curious choice
Strange that the likes of Bertand, Taylor or even Saka at Arsenal haven't even been given a chance when no left-back even named at all.

Some absolute joke decisions, but who is surprised with that charlatan in charge. Even more reason not to bother watching any of the games now.

Phillips has never kicked a ball in the PL though!! Abraham laughable. Mings over Tarks... seriously?ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Aug 25, 2020 2:12 pmBut Phillips and Rice named for midfield. Dier and Mings at the back and is Abraham really worth a call up?
All just based around the media’s favoured clubs. There’s a reason I don’t watch England any more.

Re: ARTICLE: Pope named in England squad
Tarks not getting selected shows how the freshness Sothgaye brought in is now turning stale. None of those CHs has had anywhere near the season that Tarks has.
I also don't get how Man U and Citeh players can play international football, yet need a rest before they can start the Premier League.
Utter boll9cks.

Well done and well deserved Nick Pope.
Surprised at Tarkowski omission. Excellent for us. Will only make him want to move to a bigger club even more.
Tarks was one of the main reasons for Popes clean sheets as much as pope himself.
Abraham I can understand. While he’s been injured and featuring less recently he’s had an excellent season and shown how good he is.

Re: ARTICLE: Pope named in England squad
I would have Ash Westwood all day over Kalvin Phillips and definitely James Tarkowski over Tyrone Mings. Trying to play out from the back is preventing defenders from being picked for their defensive ability.
Selfishly I'm glad our players can concentrate on Burnley.

It really does cement the idea that Southgate is clearly out of his depth as England manager.

Re: ARTICLE: Pope named in England squad
I’ve heard Mings might be going to a top six club, and that this deal will be tied up whilst he’s in international duty and in a bio bubble.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Aug 25, 2020 2:08 pmMings in - Tarkowski out - makes no sense at all to me. I know I'm biased but I just don't get that at all.
Re: ARTICLE: Pope named in England squad
When Mings was first called up I remember some comments from Southgate about wanting a left footed centre back which may explain it a little.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Tue Aug 25, 2020 2:08 pmMings in - Tarkowski out - makes no sense at all to me. I know I'm biased but I just don't get that at all.
Although I'd rate Mings higher than Dier.

If you’re Tarks you’re thinking just that!
Hopefully this club will be able to shortly give him the right platform...

Re: ARTICLE: Pope named in England squad
Although he is yet to play in the Prem, Phillips looks a much better holding-type midfielder than the likes of Rice, or Dier, from what I've seen. Gutted we never signed him in the end - he's probably worth nearly double now.

Yeah don't know if Rose is injured either, but it must be very disheartening for those players that he'd rather go with no left sided fullbacks than them.whiffa wrote: ↑Tue Aug 25, 2020 2:26 pmI was about to post the same thing, to not even name a left back is curious, unless he expects the injured players to come back into contention in time?

Surprised not to see Grealish in there either, but Tarkowski is definitely the biggest omission I didn't expect. Dier, Keane and Mings? It's been so long, you forget how frustrating England squad announcements are!

Re: ARTICLE: Pope named in England squad
If you’re Tarks, Taylor, Pope you’re in the managers ear talking to him about the direction of the club.
This strengthens any approach for Taylor and IF a north west club come for Tarks he’s got to think about going in order to ‘prove’ himself.

Re: ARTICLE: Pope named in England squad
That’s what really pisses me off about it. Southgate hasn’t got the guts to go with players from “lesser” clubs even though form demands it. Tarkowski is bound to conclude that his only option, if he wants to play for England, is to move.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Tue Aug 25, 2020 2:31 pmWell done and well deserved Nick Pope.

Meanwhile there’s a place for a player who’s had a bang average season and who is currently banged up in Greece with the possibility of a jail sentence hanging over him...

Re: ARTICLE: Pope named in England squad
Shame about Tarky, however we Clarets can take pride in the fact that there is one current Burnley player in the squad and three ex players as well. From that perspective I think that makes Burnley the best represented club after Manchester United.

Re: ARTICLE: Pope named in England squad
I'm always amazed at what some managers see in certain players. Mings is a case in point. Top end Championship at best. With respect to Dier every Tottenham fan I know says he's been exactly that this season. I can't help but believe that if Tarks had played as well as he did last season for any top six team then he'd be one of the first names on the England team sheet. Southgate always has worried me and continues to do so.........the last World Cup obviously did a lot for his CV but I've never kidded myself to believe that he had anything other than an easy ride. As much fun as it was to watch the tournament as an England fan we only played one decent team in that competition ie Belgium (I include Croatia in that statement) and they beat us twice at a canter.

Re: ARTICLE: Pope named in England squad
I’ve never been convinced by Southgate either, we had a good run in the last World Cup, but all the teams we beat were lower in world ranking than England
Re: ARTICLE: Pope named in England squad
Southgate has probably achieved more than any England manager since Bobby Robson in getting us to a World cup semi final. Yet he's a clueless idiot supposedly for not picking Tarkowski. Maybe its because he's had a look at him and he doesn't think he's up to it? Do people honestly believe its down to some anti-Burnley conspiracy?

If he doesn't rate him then fair enough BUT to include Kalvin Philips who has never kicked a ball in the top league is embarrassing.
