They don’t mess about out there. And that’s why you don’t mess about out there!fidelcastro wrote: ↑Tue Aug 25, 2020 8:39 pmVery swift justice system they have in Greece, not like over here where it takes forever.
However, I'm confused, I thought all these unjust and bizarre laws were set by the EU?

Re: Maguire in the mire ?
Joe Public's sentence wouldn't have been suspended. Look at the charges he was found guilty of. No doubt the Greek government got involved and said they don't want to frighten rich tourists away.cricketfieldclarets wrote: ↑Tue Aug 25, 2020 8:47 pmNot really as joe public can work after a suspended sentence. It’s kind of the point.
Re: Maguire in the mire ?
All the suspended sentence means is that for the next couple of years, he’ll have to go somewhere else other than Greece for his holidays
Re: Maguire in the mire ?
What a plonker for going to such a place. Should be locked up for wasting his money

Legal opinion in Greece seems to confirm that as they were misdemeanours a defendant with no previous convictions gets a suspended sentence - that could be why they were down graded.Gordaleman wrote: ↑Tue Aug 25, 2020 8:50 pmJoe Public's sentence wouldn't have been suspended. Re: Maguire in the mire ?
It’s all very peculiar. The prosecutor wants Maguire to apologise for something he’s says he didn’t do and some charges will be dropped.
1. Did the assault occur outside the bar or at the police station?
2. Was the plain clothed policeman injured at the bar or the station?
3. Why did the taxi they were in take them to the police station and not the hospital?
4. Any evidence of the “Albanians”
5. What happened to his sister and is there any evidence to support her claim.
6. No CCTV or mobile footage!!!

The bit where he's supposed to have tried to bribe them into letting him off sounds like something that someone is unlikely to have made up, and that he did say it.

Appeal lodged and under Greek law that means yesterday’s court case is now considered null and void. It means he is currently guilty of no offence and is therefore free to travel. The appeal trial will be held in a higher court.

As yesterday. Innocent until proven guilty.
Re: Maguire in the mire ?
Utd better get ready to greece some palms. If guilty at re-trial it might not be a suspended .

Re: Maguire in the mire ?
Can he be punished further if his appeal fails? Apologies for my ignorance of the Greek judicial system. You wonder whether he would be best just to accept the punishment and put this behind him, easy for me to say though of course.ClaretTony wrote: ↑Wed Aug 26, 2020 4:50 pmAppeal lodged and under Greek law that means yesterday’s court case is now considered null and void. Re: Maguire in the mire ?
What leads you to believe he’s not telling the truth? Don’t get me wrong, he might well be. But I don’t quite understand this animosity towards Maguire. He’s never really done anything to be disliked by people has he? He always comes across as a fairly level-headed, down to earth lad.RalphCoatesComb wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 10:19 pmBelieved he was being kidnapped?

I remember a guy being beat the Sh!t out of with sticks in the early hours by Greek Cypriot police in Paphos a number of years ago I think he'd caused some minor criminal damage.....they were like a pack of rabid dogs.Burnley fans have seen first hand what the Greeks are like.....and wasn't one coach driven straight to a local nick instead of the ground.

It wasn't Maguire's fault when Robbie Brady got badly injured

Tarks must be wondering how hes not replaced Slabhead in the England team.

Re: Maguire in the mire ?
Listened to his interview today, not wanting to appear cynical - could his little sister with her rolling eyes and passing in and out of consciousness been drunk?? After all they allegedly had been drinking most of the day, and racked up a hefty bar bill?
Re: Maguire in the mire ?
At least it will be out of his own pocket to pay lawyers to get him off unlike the almost £500,000 it cost the British taxpayer to get the three lads off a murder conviction for not knowing that at the back of their getaway care they were dragging a copper almost a mile.

Re: Maguire in the mire ?
He’ll get away with this, you watch.
That sounds like I have him down as guilty... maybe that’s unfair as I know absolutely nothing about what happened other than what has been widely reported.
If I was a betting man.... bang to rights. He has that much money, the legal team will find whatever it is they need however obscure and unlikely and they will get him off. That’s how justice works.

Injected with a hypodermic syringe that contained a "rape drug". I hope she's now in a UK hospital undergoing all sorts of checks for HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B, and hepatitis C etc?Eloise Laws wrote: ↑Fri Aug 28, 2020 8:40 amListened to his interview today, not wanting to appear cynical - could his little sister with her rolling eyes and passing in and out of consciousness been drunk?? Re: Maguire in the mire ?
How much did the failed police investigation and prosecution cost? Are you going to start a campaign that Justice should just be for the rich? Can't afford a lawyer? Well just plead guilty because if you didn't do this one you've probably done something else? Get rid of juries- they can never be trusted to come back with the result the press want?mdd2 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 28, 2020 9:02 amAt least it will be out of his own pocket to pay lawyers to get him off unlike the almost £500,000 it cost the British taxpayer to get the three lads off a murder conviction for not knowing that at the back of their getaway care they were dragging a copper almost a mile.

Anyway, let's not get sidetracked.
To me, it sounds like he got bladdered while being on an all day sesh and kicked off, then started giving it the old 'do you know who I am' treatment.

Re: Maguire in the mire ?
Even level-headed, down to earth lads make mistakes. He has a lot to lose if he's guilty. That's one reason he'd lie.
Don't try and take on Foreign Police when you've had a few. Many an England fan has made that mistake
Running away with one handcuff on? Sounds like a scene from outside the Cats Whiskers way back when
The truth may well come out but someone is lying.

Because he plays for Utd, England, he’s better than Tarky and is rich and successful.Rileybobs wrote: ↑Thu Aug 27, 2020 11:44 pmWhat leads you to believe he’s not telling the truth?
