Dwight McNeil-Leicester
I am now living in Leics and the Leicester Mercury are saying they are trying to sign Dwight and seeming confident
Got to admit that since Lockdown and all the talk of SD leaving I have taken everything with a pinch of salt. However do any of you closer to base know anything about Dwight signing for the Foxes-they have just earned £50m with Chilwell going, so not short of funds

Take another pinch of salt. Don't think McNeil (Or anyone else.) will be leaving for that sort of offer.

Re: Dwight McNeil-Leicester
They'll be looking to buy cheap if this is true. It's what they do..buy cheap and sell on for big money
Re: Dwight McNeil-Leicester
Would have thought they might be more interested in Taylor
having lost Chilwell. If it's Dwight then 25m minimum and if Taylor not much less.
If any I would probably prefer to lose Dwight rather than Taylor.
Ideally neither but accept that if Leicester come calling with a good offer
then we might be tempted.

Re: Dwight McNeil-Leicester
Very smart club in the buying and selling department are Leicester. Therefore not a club I would consider selling to or buying from

I think Leicester are targeting an overseas full back.Their real concern is centre half. Evans was red carded on the last game of last season and suspended, and Morgan (who is now a hell of a size) got injured yesterday. They were lucky last year that Evans /Soyunchu played nearly every game but they lack a quality back up CH

You might, wed all like to see him sign a 5 year extension and grow with the new squad post investment, but we’re a business and unless the new investor/owner and his team feel he’s a valued commodity to the business, he will be sold for the going rate.
Which I’d say is 25-30million with add ons

McNeil is almost priceless to us - who would we find for £30-40m and affordable wages to replace him? And at his tender age too.
£50m minimum from me I’m afraid .

Spurs were near to Demarai Gray, I read, so they could well be coming asking. I’d hope the response is “Do one”.

Re: Dwight McNeil-Leicester
Good business's don't snatch at the forst opportunity they see. They evaluate the situation and say "What if?" So I imagine Burnley will be saying "What if we keep him for another year, on a relatively low wage and see how much he's worth post Covid 19? Meanwhile, he helps us to at least stay in the PL for another season, with all the rewards that will bring?" I know what most business's would do, and that's keep him.Danieljwaterhouse wrote: ↑Mon Aug 31, 2020 6:52 pmYou might, wed all like to see him sign a 5 year extension and grow with the new squad post investment, but we’re a business and unless the new investor/owner and his team feel he’s a valued commodity to the business, he will be sold for the going rate.

Re: Dwight McNeil-Leicester
The article is based solely on them being the favourites with the bookies to sign him and nothing else.
And there’s absolutely no chance we’d sell McNeil for £25m. Bournemouth are asking for £40m for David Brooks, who is 23 and only played 9 games last season after a long-term injury. McNeil also has 4 years left on his contract. He shouldn’t be going for any less than £40m.

Re: Dwight McNeil-Leicester
McNeil to Leicester makes perfect sense in theory. You replace Albrighton and get 3x the player in one fell swoop.
If it were to happen, we’d need to sign a pair of capable wingers as opposed to one like-for-like replacement in my opinion. He’s very unique.

25mil I nearly spit a lovely glass of red out. BFC123 has it spot on in my opinion.

If McNeil goes we can just play Pieters at left mid. I think Pieters had a better assists per game ratio than Dwight so is probably pushing for a starting place even if Dwight stays

Sell McNeil and , unless we can unearth another orthodox left-winger of the very highest quality, basically devalue Chris Wood's goalscoring.
Great idea.

We will sell him, but surely not this window, not with 4 years remaining on his contract, unless we get a crazy bid, by crazy bid I'd be talking £50m, and a large sell on clause.FactualFrank wrote: ↑Mon Aug 31, 2020 9:45 pmWe were heading to the Championship until he turned up.

Surely the issue here (hypotheically) is not what you can sell a player for; it's more about how you can adequately replace that player with the transfer money.

Trippier and Ings (granted nothing we could do about those).FactualFrank wrote: ↑Mon Aug 31, 2020 9:55 pmI reckon. When was the last time we sold a star player for a pathetic amount.
Austin?
As CT says generally we have done very well in getting good money for our outgoing players.

What's your point?FactualFrank wrote: ↑Mon Aug 31, 2020 10:43 pmI don't even have to start... call yourself a Burnley fan and you're talking about Trippier?
As I said nothing we could do about the situation as otherwise he would have run his contract down and gone for nothing.
However he went for a small amount and was a star player IMO (unless that's the bit you are disagreeing with?)
Re: Dwight McNeil-Leicester
And it must be many seasons since we've sold a player and become weaker as a result.

If Dwight goes for anything like 30-50million, it will at least give us funds for new signings. Hopefully he will stay another season.

Re: Dwight McNeil-Leicester
Trippier helped the club by signing that contract, otherwise he would have gone for nothing in 2015. Yes, there was a clause but Tripps insisted on signing it to ensure we got something when he left and I believe he would have stayed and signed another deal had we not been relegated.
Re: Dwight McNeil-Leicester
At the date he signed the contract, when it was sign or sell, £3.5m was as much or more than he would have been worth. Full backs with no Premier League experience were worth no more than that at the time.

Re: Dwight McNeil-Leicester
It seems that people are missing my point entirely. I am aware of the reasons he left for a small amount and have admitted there was nothing the club could have done differently.
The fact remains it was still a small amount to receive for one of our star players when he left.

50 million + Demarai Gray or Marc Albrighton and I'd consider it
