This makes me think that SD really does have Benson in mind for this coming season.
Benson and Richardson might have a chance of making the bench for the EFL Cup games, and possibly Thompson as well, we're stretched ATM, so we'll have to make up the numbers somehow, whether they'll get on the pitch is another matter entirely, but the experience won't do them any harm, even if they don't get on the park.

It's good though, if we have players like that coming through.

How many times has SD been forced into playing someone and it's turned out well?

Finishes 0-0.

Sounded like a good run for some of the players, so still worthwhile.

Unfortunately my only glimpse of Benson was at Crewe last year. He did not have a good game to say the least.
I was sat with Jordan Cropper's dad that afternoon at Crewe and neither of us could believe what we were seeing from Josh Benson. I don't think I've ever seen him play as poorly as he did that day.

To be honest, didn't see too much of him last season. He was injured at the start of the season from memory and then, of course, went out on loan, but he's very much a player who, overall, has impressed me since we first signed him.

I’m not in the know, but if Kevin long wasn’t injured, surely he’d have been in the Ireland squad
Long was playing through a back injury at the end of the season so I expect that is his problem and it may not settle for some time depending what the cause of his bad back is.

I know they did. That's why I was asking if tarks was injured.

Hope it's not serious, or we really are struggling!

I may have missed it Tony, but is there any official line on why Ben is injured.
He finished the game against Palace. The club said it was a tweak that needed monitoring, but would likely keep him out for the next game. Which was fair enough.
But 2 months down the line.....I've moaned before about the lack of clarity from the club concerning injuries, I'm hoping I just missed it somewhere.

Torn thigh muscle wasn't it in training after the win at Palace?

A superb defensive performance again for the Clarets. Shame our forwards couldn't score.

Our forwards are there to defend first. Getting out the half is last resort.

Nice to see Mr Dyche giving the 2 young lads a ho to possibly stake a claim for 4th choice CB
Very generous! Wish I had that written into my contract!

We always play youngster's in the pre season, rarely do they actually make appearances in competitive fixtures come the season start.

I hope this is the exception.

Positives JBG starts again & Richardson makes the bench, no Brady so I presume he's away with ROI.

We don't have a PL game for another 18 days, so it's too early to panic, but we could do with one or two returning.

Good that the youngsters will get some decent game time against a decent Championship outfit, this can only stand them in good stead for their upcoming fixtures, when we'll be stepping up in class.
I wasn’t worried... until you reminded me it’s only EIGHTEEN days till the season starts. 17 now :(

Really glad we are not starting on 12th!! Squad seems more threadbare than when we ended the season.

Apart from Mee,Cork,Barnes,Tarkowski and Long who were all missing from yesterday's friendly at Preston, not including our youngsters,I make it only another 14 senior players available.

Oh yes of course those 3 called up for internationals.
Point I was trying to make was that even if every one of our senior players, not including our youngsters or 3rd/4th keeper, was fit and available we would only have 19 in our squad.
